Nice video. Excellent locations. I love the Berkshires. I still can’t get over how the Housy is down to two leased units for NX11/12. I would have thought their GP35s would be back in service by now.
Nice catch/train chase Harrison! Man, that track between the Housey's service facilities and the wye is terrible... Amazing nothing derails there. The wye itself looks like some of the best track they have south of the Mass state line.
It should be good now well atleast from Canaan to Pittsfield I work for Railworks and we put in about 40 thousand ties in back in 2019 then we started putting in new cwr starting in 2020 I know all these locations you filmed and have rode it with my machine and it's quite smooth alot of the locals in Great Barrington thanked us for making it quieter lol

And those surroundings were pretty fascinating in their own right. Man, if the walls could talk in those old buidlings! Oh, did you pick up an accordion? You could add "Polka King" to your resume'! Great video! Is NX12 a daily run at this point? I'm interested in chasing the Housatonic in July when I'm out that way. But just trying to get a good understanding of operations before I go.
The Housatonic symbols are based on crews. NX12 is the morning Canaan road crew and runs south Monday-Friday and north on Sunday. I think they’re on at 0500 or 0400 weekdays and 0600 Sundays. NX13 handles the northbound turn Monday-Thursday and they’re on in the late afternoon. Then there’s NX11 which runs Monday-Friday around Canaan, and NX10 down in new Milford.
Word has it that the Housatonic is getting 3 new (rebuild) GP15's that'll be painted in company colors... Not sure when they're going to arrive, but I guess the deal has been done, which is good for a number of reasons. One being that the leased locomotives they have are in questionable shape. Looking forward to seeing the new locomotives painted up in home road colors.
Is this true I started railfanning the housatonic and only ever saw 22 in action in 2022 but would love to see the green and yellow ones in action or the new ones if they come

People want to see passenger and commuter service back on those rails
