I thought Gabby was riding Denver when I watched Day by Day’s vlog of this ride! 😆

Nope, Stevie. Denver reminds of Stevie a lot though, in personality, too. I think that is why I love him so much ❤️… they are both the sweetest horses.

I just happened on your vlog and wow, I commend you for the bitless bridle on Stevie. And, I commend her jockeys (Julia? Kate?) for excellent rides on a green horse, with a great eye for distance.

God job Kate. Always let horse look at the jump from all angles even from the a the center. Stiff smell. And always encourage them to do the jump. Once done praise and move on. The more trust in you they will not bat an eye at anything. Also remember they follow your emotions and doubt. Julia you are doing so awesome. Looking forward to seeing you at the show. Good luck and God Bless all.

Kate, assume Jack is going run out, and try very hard to ride him right at the center of the jump. Keep him between your legs and your hands. Shorten up on your reins so you have a firm feel on that bit, and keep your bum in the saddle. Let him know calmly and firmly that you are in charge. Next time you are there with him, hand walk him over those silly green rails and any other he wasn’t fond of. You really should be so proud of yourself and your commitment to riding Jack, and riding him well!

So something a lot of people don't think about is Western horses like Jack tend to be a lot smoother if he's a very smooth worse to ride for the trot and canner and you have the space on your trailer I would say to bring him to because a horse that is smooth gated makes an amazing pack and equitation horse for a good 2 years I was riding I was loading and taking my older quarter horse with me as well as my younger Show horse because for the equation on the flat or just flat classes in general the calms that he had a western one did so much better. If the girls enjoy riding him I said take him with you for literally flat classes if you can it would give him a good experience as well as help the girls forever feeling flustered at the show or if their horses aren't listening to them and they're getting a bit worked up or upset because they're not doing well sometimes having that steady Eddie that you can count on for the flat classes is your golden ticket the hacks on a steady horse that's not going to care about being ridden with others is going to be your blessing in disguise many people don't acknowledge that but a steady Eddie in the hocks when it can get crazy with tons of horses everywhere is exactly what the right type of horse for those types of situations. My recommendation if you have room on your trailer to also bring him for flat classes is to bring him purely because for both Julia and Kate having that steady Eddie for the flats like the hacks can be a huge benefit he doesn't have to bend in the house he can just go along with it whatever piece he wants as long as he's not spooky I would say to take him with you for hacks and equitation on the flat because those are where a horse like him would Excel. I wrote a western trained horse against several horses that were imported from Holland that were very very expensive horses and the little western horse actually placed higher than a lot of the imported fancy show horses purely because he was calm cool and collected in divisions and classes such as the worst hacks having that steady Eddie can sometimes be your key to winning or at least your key to having one relaxing thing at the show that you don't have to stress and worry over I would say definitely don't rule him out for showing and for sure considered doing the hacks on him he seems like he would be a perfect hack horse calm cool collected looks like his gates are really nice and like he is really good breaks which is really what you need in the hacks the better the brakes to better lock you have if something goes wrong. It's something that I would definitely think about and talk over with the girls because I know at one point when I was coaching I had some students that were at a show and they had really bad rounds and we're really nervous and upset because they weren't doing well and I had a steady Eddie Western pleasure horse with me that was my half course and I ended up letting them ride him each of the three kids did one round of hacks on him and all three of the kids came out with a ribbon super happy and saying that it gave them the confidence they needed sometimes if you take a confidence builder with you even if you have no intentions of entering them it can be a case of a horse who have is being a little bit lucky and spooky and you don't feel like they're going to do well in the Hacks you can call on your steady old faithful to help restore confidence if it's shaking or stirred or even if they just need that calm easy going peaceful ride. This is just my opinion based on experience do whatever you feel is right however I've seen so many people write off horses that were incredible for the hacks because they were spooking at jumps when you at the reality is those horses that don't necessarily love jumping might love walk crop catering around the ring winning ribbons in the undersaddles the hacks and the equation on the flat. I was taking him a chance in the house if you have room on your trailer both the girls know him and should there be any issues or fears or anxieties or nerves having him there in general to do the flats on if they're nervous might be a big help even if not for this show something to consider down the road I'm a big fan of Western horses moving over to the English world especially for the pleasure roadhack and under saddle classes in general because I find that they tend to be some of the best behaved horses in the arena. Do what you feel is right in this circumstance but definitely I would consider taking him for hacks at some point.

WELL DONE STEVIE, JACK, KATE AND JULIA GETTING A GOOD PRACTICE IN BEFORE YOUR SHOW. LOVE HOW KATE SITS THE SADDLE APPROACHING THE JUMPS, SHE JUST QUIETLY WAITS FOR THE HORSE TO JUMP AND FOLLOWS THRU IN HALF SEAT. JULIA SURE IS GETTING STRONGER HOLDING HER POSITION, WHAT A TEAM SHE AND SPECIAL STEVIE ARE TOGETHER. JACK SAYS "NOW I AM A JUMPING HORSE?." LINDSEY FROM HARMONY HORSEMANSHIP IN ONTARIO USES SMALL TREAT REWARD THRU OUT HER RIDE AND EVEN AFTER A JUMP. WE ALL LIKE A REWARD FOR OUR EFFORT. BEEZIE MADDEN OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST HAD JUDGEMENT A STALLION AFRAID OF WATER JUMPS, SHE CLICKER AND TREAT TRAINED HIS FEAR OF THE WATER OUT OF HIM. REWARDS FOR LITTLE JUMPS MIGHT HELP GOOD BOY JACK TO LIKE TO JUMP. STILL SUGGEST TEACHING JACK AND DUKE TO SIDEPASS OVER A GROUND RAIL IT WOULD BE A GREAT WAY TO STOP THAT RUNNING LEFT OR RIGHT BEFORE THE JUMP. YOU RIDE TO THE JUMP FROM HINDQUARTERS THRU TO THE RIBS, KEEPING THE REINS STRAIGHT TO THE FENCE. THE LEGS AND SEAT KEEP THE HORSE STRAIGHT. ONCE YOU PULL THAT REIN RIGHT TO TRY TO KEEP HIM STRAIGHT HE BOWS OUT ON HIS LEFT SIDE NOT LISTENING TO THE PRESSURE OF THE LEFT LEG. THIS IS WERE TEACHING THE SIDEPASS REALLY HELPS THE HORSE AND RIDER MAKE THAT CONNECT WITH THE LEG TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE PRESSURE TO STAY STRAIGHT.
