I....actually remember that dialog now! That was basically the game’s way of hinting that to escape the Sequel Police, the Skate-o-Rama was the way, since no store was going to let you hide and trick them. I could never remember how young me figured that out (first and only sierra game I beat with 0 help), but now I recall that scene was it.
3:30 Wow! This reminds me of the ColecoVision Popeye, where my brother found a bug where you can spinach-punch Bluto into the water and have the barrel fall on his head as he enters the water (overkill, if you will). It made the game hang up. We loved making it happen, and every time, the game hung up. The game makers didn't expect us to be so good at beating up the bad guy!
Did you know that you can talk to the condiments in Monolith Burger, by using the eye, nose, and tongue icons on them? The buns won't talk unless you do it before putting one on the burger though. Also, Scott Murphy voiced both Vohaul and the mustard.
Pretty cool stuff! This was all new to me! Sax has been showcasing sq4 recently with some other stuff i've never seen before. SQ4 truly is the gift that keeps on giving xD
I’m amazed that there are still so many things to show off about these games :) I take it the CD version mall closing before you’ve solved all the puzzles screws you over later in the game in traditional Sierra fashion?
Kind of. If you don't have the SQ4 hintbook that you buy in the Software store, then you are screwed - 'cos there's a bit of the time code you need to get to the next part of the game. But if you have that, then all the rest of the stuff you do in the mall - getting a job at Monolith Burger, buying a dress, cleaning out the ATM, all of that - is actually optional.
You don't really need to travel to SQ1 either - I did on my first play, and came back to SQ12 with the cigar, but never figured out you could use it to see the laser beams - I just did trial and error codes and dying until I could get through each gate. xo Doh! Hey, I grew up with Sierra games - sometimes the correct way could be worse then that! But I think most of us would remember we hadn't done anything with those stores, restore and avoid that spot in the Arcade.
My very first PC game (bought for my birthday - the floppy disk version). The box and contents along brought me joy. I also encountered bugs and an easter egg or two but at the time I did not consider them as an Easter egg, just embraced it as humor. Unfortunately, the original box and contents were stolen from my folks storage a few years ago. I really wanted that back.
5:32 is there the video that's mentioned here, with all of the Gary Owens lines that are not triggered in the game? I know there's the Blue Frogs line, but are there more?
Not in SQ4, but there are a lot of unused lines in SQ6 hiding in its resource files. Akril did a full rundown with audio samples here: akril15.com/sr/sq6/SQ6Res.html
It doesn't look to me like the clerk is flipping the bird, more like they've put up their index finger (with palm facing the screen/Roger) as if to try to get Roger's attention or emphasise a point.

Yes, I did, but thank you for reminding me. "I taste like crunchy toejam sautéed in vinegar" is one of the best lines in the game.
I’ve seen the middle finger one before, but the rest were new to me. Great stuff!

Oh, man. I'm sorry for your loss. The box does show up fairly regularly on eBay, though!
Did blow myself up with the unstable ordinance first time I played. My only save was after I picked it up. But was surprised when I could put it back.
SQ yes, it does keep giving
9:14 Dance party!

What I am learning with these latest videos is that Space Quest 4 is the best Space Quest.
Really? I thought it was 6? 🤔
@@spacequesthistorian That is second best and you know it.
Gotta love soldiers who dont love their rhetoric. Would love a video about secret dialogue!

Did you make that unused voice over files vid because I will watch like and comment on it lol
I didn't, actually... I probably should.
@@spacequesthistorian lol fair enough cool beans
Space Quest was so much fun bevore the creators decided to make it a pure Star Trek parody with the folowing sequels :(
