Do you have a left handed version of this video? If you are left handed, you can convert ANY video on TH-cam yourself! Simply go to www.mirrorthev... and follow the instructions to mirror flip any video to convert to left handed!
How much yarn will I need? This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!
How many squares do I need for a blanket? That all depends on the size of the square you are making and how big you want your finished blanket to be! I always advise making one square first then measuring the size of it. From there you can work out how many squares you will need to get the blanket size you want 😀
Do you have the written pattern? Yes! I have written patterns to accompany my video tutorials on my website here: www.hookedbyro... The written pattern is generally released a week or so after the video tutorial to ensure there are no errors in the video itself and to make amendments in the written version if any are found. All the written patterns are FREE to access on my website
How can I print the pattern from your website? Do you have downloadable PDF's? Not at this time no. This may change in the future but for now, I only provide the written pattern directly on my website.

I want you to know that my grandmother embroidered a tablecloth for me to add to my hope chest (yes, I'm from the era of hope chests)! and that has been over 45 years ago. I still have it and still use it on holidays and I put it on the table on her birthday. I will be passing it to one of my daughters. Your grandchildren will keep it for all their lives, I guarantee it. I still have that hope chest filled with memento's for my children and grandchildren as well.

Just last night I learned how to crochet a crocodile stitch, which I am making my mom ( who is also a crocheter, which I learned from her when I was about 3 or 4yrs of age) a shawl. This stitch is sooo much fun, thank youuu! I was playing around with it when my husband got home from work and he was amazed - said I was the master of crochet, haha! I found it a bit tricky at first but after just a short while I was really getting into the swing of it. What I really like is how it feels as I work it - it just flows back and forth rather than the quick up, down and twist of a regular DC - and I think it's going to be much less painful on my rheumatic wrists and hands, especially when making larger items. I also love the way it looks, it's so interesting as it grows, and there's a certain softness and drapiness (is that a word?!) to it that regular rows of DC lack. Thanks so much for making such a clear and easy to follow tutorial, your efforts and talent are very much appreciated! :)

@@HookedbyRobin without the internet i think i would be intellectually a different person. it's given me so much info. me mum taught me crochet but she could only make a dodgy stitch in blanket rounds, i figured out myself how to make bags and beanies and scarfs (they were awful but eh i was 10) i only really learnt how to crochet properly because of the internet. also books suck aha. i learned how to knit in 2 hours because of the internet, and i learned how to tunisian crochet in like 4 mins because of the internet.

Quick tip. When you get to the end of the row and chain 5 to begin the next row, turn you work and begin the next chain down. instead of placing the stitch immediately at the bottom as Robin shows, place it in the next stitch. It will keep the lines straight without creating that bulge effect!

Amazing! I've seen a lot of crochet tutorials but this is the first time I see this trick.
I would recommend starting with Foundation Double Crochet stitches instead of the foundation chains though. It will give the work even neater bottom edge and you will skip working into the those annoying chains.

OMGness!!! You are the ONLY crocheter I have seen that holds your yarn the way I do and uses your index finger to keep the yarn on the hook in control!! 🤣🤣🤣👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hi! 😊 Omg... I couldn't help myself... I just had to tell you that even though I alternate the way I hold my hook (because of hand cramps), I always use my index finger to control the yarn on my hook to prevent myself from pulling it through too many loops. It's a time saver not having to undo stitches. Glad to know you do this too! Cheers! 👍😊

try skipping the first stich of your dc stich row for a even boarder....thanks for sharing
Fun idea! I don’t think it saves much time compared to normal dc stitching but it surely changes the colour pattern when using variegated yarns.
I didn’t think it would save time either but once I gave it a go and got the hang of it after a couple of goes, wow- you can whizz along a blanket!
It does once you get used to it because you're able to get more height in else time
It does save time, especially if you're working with a bulky or blanket yarn. I whipped up a blanket for my MIL last year in NO time!
It's like you're doing a foundation double crochet on top of a regular double crochet. Very clever!

Thanks. This stitch of yours is _wonderful,_ so I'm just glad to be able to give something back.
While I was practicing the stitch, I had an idea about how to make the _end_ of a row straighter, too. It's a bit convoluted, so I hope I can explain it… There's a loop at the end of the row that makes a small lump on the side. Well, before inserting your hook into the top of the last stitch in the row below, insert the hook down into that loop, from the top, then, with a bit of a twist, put the hook through the top of the stitch below, as usual. Capturing that otherwise loose loop makes the end of the row straighter. I hope I made that clear. Please feel free to ask for clarification, if I didn't. And, of course, I'd appreciate your feedback.

Life. Changed. I had to pick my jaw up from the floor. My favorite crochet project to do is what I just call a "scrap blanket." I have virtually no budget at all for crocheting, so when I have just $2-3 to spare, I got to my local thrift store. They have bags of yarn for 99 cents that are mostly just small balls of yarn, whatever was left of a skein sort of thing, always in random colors, different weights, styles, etc. Each bag is probably a total of 700-1000 yards of yarn, and you never know what you'll get. And I use them to make small blankets, foundation chain of 120-150, and then just rows of dc until it's as long as I like. I can't wait to start another blanket using this stitch!
Scrap blankets are my favourite thing to make too!

Your swatch resembles back loop double crochet, hence that slant in the front. If you aim for the "back hump" (slant, the loop, and then loop just behind that) instead, you get a typical double crochet look.

You're not alone. On my first C2C project -- a scarf -- I noticed it was missing a DC on an outside square. I got out the yarn, added the DC, and wove in the ends. I guess you might see it if you went looking for it, but I doubt it, and I would've had to frog at least half of the scarf, otherwise. As "they" say, "Necessity is the mother of invention," eh?

You can do more than two rows at a time. I got to wondering if it could be done and it is possible. Chain the number needed for your project, then add 2 more chains for each additional row you want to crochet at the same time...then add 1 more chain. Then use the technique you did of yo and insert hook and pull up loops, etc. For doing three rows at once. You would add 7 more chains. Thank you for sharing this technique. (Or just add 2 chains for each row...thus for 3 rows you would add 6 chains. As The Trouble With Trebles suggested in the pinned comment.)

So, I played around with technique and after the 1st ch 5, add multiples of 3 to add more rows. Then pick up loops as if you were on the first DC when you don't pull through the loop. Recommend an Afghan hook!!!
More simply.. 3x-1= chains needed after making width, where is x is rows wanted. 2x+1 is number of stitches the is supposed to be on hook when stitches are picked up properly. I have tested this with 20 rows on Afghan hook.
I tried your stitch and in the second row, I did the same process before turning, turned and made my stitch in the following stitch. I chained five like you said, not four. So far my sample is pretty straight. Thank you for this lovely stitch!

Love this stitch. On the 2nd row go into the middle of last row instead of underneath. It gives a different texture by creating ridges.

Edit: I have just realized that you can make the stitch as tall as you want depending on how many multiples of three you increase the chain by when making the first stitch!
Have you tried this stitch starting with an extra chain 2-3 for a sc appearance or even a chain 6-7 for a treble crochet? I can only imagine how helpful this will be in larger time intensive patterns. Especially if you’re able to inc or dec the rows and use it in circular patterns.

I recently learned to avoid the wonky edge by turning and slip stitching into the last stitch made before chaining... I created a swatch along with you, and worked my edge ( row ends) in that manner , chaining 5 AFTER an end of row turn, slip stitch IN LAST STITCH... and continued this double row stitch. Ta-dah! Ok! I timed myself doing your two lined crochet vs 2 lines of the regular double crochet. It took me 15 seconds longer the regular way. But! The texture of the double line is much softer. I will be using this more often cuz it does take away from the same-old.. same-old
