      lol honestly right?! Lol its ass backwards, but on the other hand the structures are a lot easier for me to read in graffiti because the letters are so defined and unique. As to where in normal writing everything just blends together for me.

      @@Theartistblock i mean have you ever seen the font opendyslexic? its a font made to help prevent floating and twisting letters like is common in dyslexia. it gives hella graffiti vibes in the way it distorts letters. edit actually id like to see that from you a dyslexia-aide font review in the style of a graffiti critique with graffiti fundamentals applied to open dyslexic and stuff like that looool

    While I can definitely understand and somewhat agree with the points you make, I think there are some very beneficial aspects to certain, not all, alphabets. As for generators...the only pro to those pieces of trash is that it helps 2nd grade teachers create "funky-fresh" new banners to hang on the walls ...fuck 'em! Back to alphabets. 1 benefit I have found is that there are or can be certain exceptions to the rules of letter structure that only appear with graffiti writing. For instance, the middle segment of an "S" doesnt always have to slant like --> " \", it can also travel upwards ("/" the forward slash is exaggerated, but still supports my case) and maintain the essential identifiable characteristics if done correctly. And, as I'm sure you already know, there are several other exceptions to various letters that work in a similar fashion as well as "leg" directions and width, etc... Point being, it would have taken me much, much longer to figure this shit out had I not had these alphabets to study the likenesses and discrepancies of. Finally, as far as differentiating between solid lettering and garbage distributed in worksheet form, created by someone with zero grafitti knowledge goes....well...I would like to think that most people that are seriously interested in graffiti, to the point of checking out these alphabets, have enough common sense to not rip them off and are at least artistic minded enough to know which ones look like complete shit and which ones look like the author knows a pretty good bit or a bad ass. Love your work & input. P's -

I guess if you are someone who got into graffiti through typography, sign writing or something you would come across some bullshit like that trying to learn graff through whatever you do on your computer or at school but handsdown the best way to learn graffiti is by going out on the streets, look and learn from what's out there it's as simple as that... take whatever you can from what you can find online and use it but always remmeber where it started and came from in the first place.... it's a little bit ironic that you are here telling the internet what the "right" way to do graffiti is though... you have your own videos trying to educate people so I dont understand why you would hate on other educational sources when you're doing the same thing

    First off someone needs to do a proper alphabet where all the letters get prop points !! Every alphabet will have a few good letters in em....alphabets are necessary!! To get in a good crew you have to know that crews alphabet, write it the way they do and write it well to get in a crew.. alphabets are the bread and butter in our world!!! So to dis alphabets doesn't get you any prop points from me or my crew. Don't listen to dude if you want to learn the write way . I learned from the first Graff book ever put out and it was an extremely important tool to learn piece art from!! If only we had the webs to get alphabets from it like cheating almost .. Graff as free as it seems really has structure and systems that's strict and has guide lines so alphabets are a VERY important part of our world!! I have a stack of every alphabet I can find I printed out that I keep in my work bag at all times and i use it every time I do a black book piece .. now I never at all do the same letter I'm looking at its just a tool that gets me to draw the letter i like.... i never get stuck in a piece pattern my work is always different every time and is my own so don't listen to instructional Graff vids!!! Do what works for you they gonna take all the fun get inspired but do your own thing find some writers who know what's up that's all anyone needs I never had internet when i started out I'm glad for that cause its gotten lame go outside and meet peeps start a crew do it WRITE !!!xxxxxxxxMISC.x1xxxxxxx akaxxxx PIRO x1xxx aka ----------------$$$$$$$$$$??????????__

    • @Theartistblock
      @Theartistblock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you know the fundamentals then why are you using alphabets, youd have no use for them if you know the basics. If you're using alphabets then you might not know the fundamentals enough to see the fundamental issues with them.
      Not all alphabet suck, plenty look great. My mentor made some, and many of my friends have too, the issue is when people copy them then they run into tons of fundamental issues because not all of the letters were designed to flow with each and every other letter. For example their P may not flow with their A. That's not to say those letters suck or they dont look "related" but rather that they weren't made with the intention to be beside one another. Alphabets can be used to learn in RARE cases, but not only does this require an extremely good alphabet but it also requires a graffiti artist who understands how to do a master study and over my 20 years of teaching I haven't run into a single new graffiti artist who knew how to do that. So I stand by my initial statement.

You haven't provided any evidence or facts, or sensible theory backed with experience. I've been teaching graffiti for nearly 20 years and doing it for longer than that. I only say this to share with you that I've seen the effects of new writers using alphabets and iv seen how it pays off or hurts them years later. Maybe dont be closed minded to fundamentals and learn rather than trying to start an argument with people who know what they're talking out when you're over there using alphabets
      Also, I like how you openly admit to biting, copying and stealing others letters, needing to use others alphabet to do graffiti because you dont know letters yourself and somehow you think I'm in the wrong and somehow you think you're knowledgeable enough to notice if the fundamentals of your work are off. Spoiler alert, if you needed to bite then you wouldnt know the mistakes of your letters if they hit you in the face.

      since when is practicing gatekeeping. This takes time to get good at, so ya about 4 years. what, you think you'll be good overnight haha. thats some lack of dedication if you ask me. if you know me and my content, I'm constantly recommending an 80 20 split. 80 percent diligent practice 20 percent whatever you want, this is meant to help progress quickly. If you want to take decades to learn the most simple of lessons because you never wanted to have discipline and practice then be my guest but you can do that alone. when you're 50 with whack letters don't be mad at the young ones better than you after a few years, just remember you're the one who didn't want to learn,.

I just cant believe every sick writer out there did that basic style for years before trying something a bit different. How is someone suposed to progress in an artistic way if you dont challenge yoursellf? if i do that for 4 years im just going to stagnate, get bored and probably quit grafiti. but what do i know im new to all this

    • @Theartistblock
      @Theartistblock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spideypng after reading your comment its 100% a communication problem. I think we'd actually end up agreeing on this topic. It's not a matter of doing the same letter, moreso a matter of not adding style so that the style doesnt add unessery obstacles that end up making it take longer to learn. To add style in anything, you first have to know the basics. So the goal is to give ourselves the easiest time learning those core concepts. As time goes on people will slight lean letters, maybe make some wider, thinner, so on so forth but thing crazy. From there they add little serrifs and small compressed extensions while still doing little tweaks to letters. The learning process is long for most things in life. After about 4 years give or take most graffiti artists have a basic grasp on graffiti's basics if they've been focusing on learning. From here, because they have a decent understanding of the basics they can begin to methodically add style. My method of teaching is no different than how we do it in professional art, learn the basics, add style after. It works and gets results.

      @@Theartistblock i think i get what you are saying, is it possible for you to provide me an example of a beginner friendly graffiti (basic style?), maybe a video or something? ive recently bought my first 2 cans and i enjoyed doing some characters on the wall, i want to try to do a throw up (i think thats the name). nothing too complex just to dip my toes in.

      Not hating man, just teaching people better ways to learn and helping them avoid potholes like using graffiti alphabets. Been teaching 17 years, and not once has alphabets helped.

    For me it’s either I start using alphabets or straight up quit and never draw anything again. I wasn’t born with the ability to draw

      thats a shame, i wish you didnt have that outlook. we can all draw dude, i was born with less than zero drawing ability, i drew stick figgures up until i decided to learn and teach myself. most people cant draw for crap, but you learn, you put in the work and effort and you get the skill in return.copying dowsnt really teach much and doesnt give anyone skill.

    dude... you chose the worst fucking examples tho. Theres plenty to be learned from style alphabets. You just have to know how to apply and study them.
