    Can you talk more about learning how to intuitively eat? It’s so much harder than it sounds!

    I ate "intuitively" for years and I ended up obese. I had no idea what hunger was. For some eating intuitively might come easy, but for many it does not. I lost weight by counting calories and eating at a deficit. Once I reached a happy weight where I was healthy, I raised my calories to maintenance. I still count once a week or so, or if I see a change in the way my clothes fit.

    You are amazing! I struggled with disordered eating for years, and fortunately came out on the other side with a love of learning about nutrition and a passion for really caring for my body with food, not abusing it. These Nutrition 101 videos have not only been SO fun and fascinating for me, but so helpful in reinforcing my beliefs about body positivity and intuitive eating. These videos are a place I know I can come to learn about nutrition without feeling shamed or discouraged about my body or eating. Thank you!!!

    Im 350lbs just starting my journey. For some reason i started tearing up a few minutes in. I never realized how much i mistreat the vessel that carries me through everything. I need to love and care for myself as i do others. Jeez this is a rollercoaster of emotions.

    "Our bodies are not meant to be at a weight that can be maintained only through restricting calories." Becca, these are words I need to hear (and continue to hear) as I work my way through ED recovery. Thank you!! 💜

    PREACH !!! Our bodies are SO smart ! And if someone can be naturally thin whether they are healthy or not, then someone can be thicker whether they are healthy or not. The focus should be on a healthy and happy body, not a certain size or shape 💕💕💕

    FIRST!! I totally agree that calories are given such a bad rep.... but weight loss or weight gain is so much more than just calories in or out!

  • @ZoeGregoryPhoto
    @ZoeGregoryPhoto 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have such a talent for talking about food in a way that makes it seem neutral instead of "good" or "bad" which is so different than people are normally taught to think about it.

    I think that counting calories can be used in a good way too. For example I try to never be really hungry but if I pass my calorie goal for that day I will take a walk or some other exercise. So it is not to restrict food intake but to see how much activity I need to reach my weight loss goal. I try to eat healthy food all the time as you recommend but I still find it very useful to check which food has too many calories and maybe to decide for some equally tasty alternative. And there is lack of understanding what the intuition is, intuition is nothing else than making decisions based on all the things that we have learned and believe until now, but are not individually aware of. So when nutritionists says that we should be making our eating decisions based on our intuition it is the same as when some banker says that we should take loans based on the intuition. He maybe, but rest of us definitely need to educate and consult first.

    I'm currently counting calories to cut fat. Once I reach near my goal weight I'm going start practicing intuitive eating! Even now whilst I count calories I don't eat the same amount everyday. Yesterday I ate 1400 but the day before I ate 2500. This all helps me to balance out the weight loss so I don't overeat.

    I love this videos.. but I would love it if u could go more in depth in weight loss for health.. I understand that listening to ur body is ideal to maintain a healthy weight but what about the ones of us who are obesse??? Is counting calories the way to get down to a healthy weight? Or do u recommend something else.. I am 30 years old with type 2 diabetes and I weight over 200 lbs. I am considered obesse and I'm desperate to get to a healthy weight so i can get my blood sugar under control

    • @sofiasara98
      @sofiasara98 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know I’m not Becca, but I am currently a nutrition major. Technically all weight loss is caused by a calorie deficit. The great thing about intuitive eating is that for many people, we will eat only when our body needs fuel. Since you do have type 2 diabetes, I think your best bet would be to chat with your doctor or a registered dietitian who specializes in diabetic nutrition. I wish you the best of luck❤️

    About how many calories per day do you eat on average?

  • @nataliet9701
    @nataliet9701 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Calories also don't take into account that we actually live in a food obsessed culture where food is easily accessible and promoted and people are not moving their bodies enough, so obesity is an epidemic. Not just that people want to restrict their calories, the desire to restrict is caused by the unhealthy and processed food environment we live in.

    Hi :) I have a problem with listening to my body..I had an eating disorder, not so bad but it could have been worse. I am now at a healthy weight but I still don’t listen to my body. I eat when I’m full, angry and that makes me so nervous. What can I do to improve my relationship with my body?

    • @Laurensji
      @Laurensji 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Following - I'm the same, I binge eat - I suppose it would be viewed as a mild version but it could have been worse (like yours) and I am getting it under control. If I listened to my body I would binge every night to the point I am sick and if I keep it down I feel so sick and guilty.
      I would love to intuitively eat - maybe one day I might, but at the moment tracking my marcos is the only way I can control the disorder and stop undereating and then binging

    • @andasurulescu3676
      @andasurulescu3676 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Laurensji I totally understand you! I used to track too, now I don’t have an app but sometimes do it in my head. It kinda helps me. The thing is I binge on healthy foods (I mean, not 100% organic, but not at all fast food) and it would be fine if I wouldn’t gain weight.. I don’t know. I think I do something wrong but I don’t know what

    • @andasurulescu3676
      @andasurulescu3676 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are going to eat intuitively in the future :) I am sure about that

    • @Laurensji
      @Laurensji 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeh, the only way to help myself was to decide to cut out 'unhealthy' food and give myself the mindset of I can eat all the 'healthy' food I want - fruit, veg, lean meat - but anything processed or grains I have to be mindful of how much I eat. Unfortunately processed sugar is my weakness.
      So if you eat intuitively you gain weight?? Even eating all 'healthy' food?

    • @andasurulescu3676
      @andasurulescu3676 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Laurensji well, as I said I don’t really eat intuitively as I eat even when I really don’t need to.. I don’t know. Is that listening to your body? I eat much dark chocolate, peanut butter or just peanuts. That may be the reason why I gain weight but they are healthy too! I just can’t stop eating when I put the hand on them. Ok, it’s not something bad, I mean, I am not a fat person :)) but I could be if I weren’t paying attention.

    Just subscribed. I can't praise you enough for the balanced, holistic approach you convey regarding food. It is a MINEFIELD out there! Most of the information out there about nutrition is extreme, pseudo-science, fueled by fears of cancer and death, expensive, and, ironically, leading to more stress and "mental illness" around eating. At a time when we have so many quick, easy options for subsisting on processed junk and fast food, ANY movement in the direction of eating whole foods and enjoying cooking and eating these foods, should be applauded. I wish you didn't have to deal with the negative comments. I say "more love-less hate" to anyone promoting a diet that includes fruits and veggies, and encourages us all to stay out of the drive-thru!😊

    Hey there. I watched your video on veganism, and I just have to say one thing- I really do not like how you said that one person does not have the ability to make a change in the world. ANYONE has the ability to change the world. Do you understand how powerful social media is? It only takes one person to make a difference. And you even have an advantage! 58,000 people saw that video! You are an influencer, and you have the power to make a difference in peoples' lives! It is perfectly fine for you to not be vegan, but you could have inspired a lot of others to become vegan if you just touched on the amazingly powerful positive aspects of veganism. How it not only saves animals' lives, our own lives' but also the planet as well. Anything worth doing doesn't come easily, but once you educate yourself and genuinely have self love for yourself, you will want to nourish your body with only the best kinds of foods. You will begin to see the world entirely differently. You will see the truth, and you will reach a level of happiness that is unexplainable. Veganism changed my life in extraordinary ways, and I want as many people to experience the same happiness that I now have.
