I’m late obviously but this is honestly disgusting. And the worst part is when they were telling the girls where to stand and when some of them were standing in a higher position, they were told to stand in the lower positions and continued pointing out their flaws, like imagine someone doing that to you. While I agree it's not best practice to be judging women based on their looks on live tv, I thought maybe this explanation would help why this didn't offend anyone at the time, even SONEs Kim Shin Young (the MC who moved the girls around) is extremely close with all the girls. She was on a variety with Sunny and Yuri (she moved both to the very end of the rankings) and it was understood that she put them at the bottom more because of their close relationship than anything to do with their looks. As they mentioned, she visited their dorms regularly which again showed her relationship with them. Taeyeon is one of the main MCs in the show and is also known to have a close relationship with her. Making fun of her eyebrows is more like...an older sister teasing their younger sister. It's why no one was offended by her moving the girls around or pointing out flaws because everyone at the time knew how close their relationship was. It really was all in the name of fun and no one was taking these rankings seriously. None of the girls was offended by this and continue to have a strong, close bond with Kim Shin Young. They're just close friends roasting each other on national television. It's also well known that SNSD roast each other quite freely on varieties, it's nothing new to fans and just shows how close they all are. Long answer to your question of why this was considered okay and no one talks about it.

At that time, Yoona's no-makeup face was kinda more to childish side (so does Seohyun). She's much prettier now that she has matured more. Taeyeon also still had her babyfat making her face a bit puffy ... but she's looks much hotter now with more matured face.

The rank is NOT based on features. It’s based on which member looks the least different without makeup. Sooyoung looks the least different without make up, Sunny the most. Since they prefer natural looking make up anyways it’s who still looks like they’re “image”.
I don't think it's the least different without makeup though.... I've seen their post where they are bareface and I think it's really about who's beautiful without makeup. Depending on which area you come from in the world , beauty is considered very different. I noticed in most Asian countries the fair , milk like skinned women are considered beautiful with the exception of a flawless olive skinned women. Most European / Western countries find women like Hyoyeon have an exotic look , different to the average woman, but strikingly gorgeous. I feel like Yoona/Taeyeon/Tiffany/Jessica/Sunny/Seohyun represent that soft Asian beauty whereas Sooyoung/Yuri/Hyoyeon represent that intimidating striking Western beauty. Either way , they are all beautiful 💜

I was waiting for a comment like this. At this point, SNSD was one of the performing girl groups so doing things like these brings the girls and their fans back to earth. It's not like it's the fans ranking their beauty. And I agree, the comments take themselves too seriously and are coincidentally Blink or 4th gen fans which is probably why their idols see themselves in such high regards. Jeezus. Can the comments not use our 2022 collective mindset when watching this video? This came out in 2010, during their "Oh" era. At the time, things like this could be done without causing mental and emotional damage. This ranking was not intended to harm the girls. It was meant to be funny that all SNSD members were able to catch on quickly. Sooyoung and Hyoyeon got ranked "higher" than Jessica, Yoona, Yuri and Seohyun because at the time --- if you are not aware --- both Sooyoung and Hyoyeon were the least favored/popular SoShi members. Hyoyeon always got crappy hairstyles and outfits and very little to no lines in some of their songs while Sooyoung only fared slightly better in hair, outfits and lines by a few percentage. Yoona's reaction was only because she is the center and most pretty by Korean standards. If you put her in 1st place, that's not going to have the same effect because it's essentially just re-establishing what is already a fact. And rubbing it in Sooyoung and Hyoyeon's faces. This ranking wasn't done to lower the other girl's esteem but to raise the others. It's not at anybody's expense. The host who did the ranking is their friend. This was done in good spirit. Let's not overthink and overanalyze.
Wow,, the difference between the comments then and now are astounding. Obviously, i can tell that most of the newer comments are from newer fans. Because snsd loves to make harsh comments among themselves so I don’t think that many of them felt offended since the mc is a long time friends of theirs. My friends do the same, many of them comment about my height, weight, skin, but i don’t take it personally because we have been friends for so long and we are comfortable with each other.

The reason why they ranked up like that and Shinyoung changed their ranking is because, way before she comes to their dorm when they're not busy, Tiffany even said in a variety show (Sang Sang Plus with Yoona, Sunny and Shinee members) that she's the only celebrity that always comes to their dorm but male idols couldn't enter there because it was a forbidden house for males.

I don't really think this was a joke. If she has seen the member without makeup then she would know. Yoona might be the face of the group, but without make up what does she really look like? This is actually pretty accurate list. Yoona has the korean standard beauty. But Sooyoung, Tiffany and Jessica have a different kind of beauty that suits international standard. Even when they first debut the reason Tiffany has the most haters was because she's the most favored member in SNSD. Variety show host (specially in star golden bell) favors her too. She's actually the first member to be a solo star in their MV.
Sooyoung has the height, Jessica had the barbie features while Tiffany had the attitude that international prefers. But from what I've known, Tiffany was hated because of her easy going nature especially towards the opposite gender. Jessica was hated because she was linked to male idols even before debut. But when it comes to being favored in variety, it was Sunny and Sooyoung due to their personalities. While Yoona was favored by the company due to the good moral and conduct while Jessica was prefered due to being the longest trainee.

Update: when I commented there was no comments talking about how this is discriminating and what there doing is not right, as many comments were from years ago, now that some time has passed I’m glad more people have looked into this and are saying how this is wrong, seeing videos like this for example can show how part of this industry is messed up, especially for newer fans they should definitely learn how this area of kpop can be toxic and to not act alike with these situations as this can not only hurt the idols/artists but yourself as a fan too

Some features definitely changed with makeup.

The rank is NOT based on features. It’s based on which member looks the least different without makeup. Sooyoung looks the least different without make up, Sunny the most. Since they prefer natural looking make up anyways it’s who still looks like they’re “image”.
I don't think it's the least different without makeup though.... I've seen their post where they are bareface and I think it's really about who's beautiful without makeup. Personally speaking, I would rather watch Sooyoung performing or going out without makeup than with one because make-up doesn't really suit her(it does suit her but not the really heavy ones). Depending on which area you come from in the world , beauty is considered very different. I noticed in most Asian countries the fair , milk like skinned women are considered beautiful with the exception of a flawless olive skinned women. Most European / Western countries find women like Hyoyeon have an exotic look , different to the average woman, but strikingly gorgeous. I feel like Yoona/Taeyeon/Tiffany/Jessica/Sunny/Seohyun represent that soft Asian beauty whereas Sooyoung/Yuri/Hyoyeon represent that intimidating striking Western beauty. I do think so too....Some of the new comments seems to come from people outside the fandom or new fans. This video is supposed to be fun but watching newer comments threw me off. All of them are so close and even often tease and roast one another in National TV like a normal person from years ago until now. I was waiting for a comment like this. At this point, SNSD was one of the performing girl groups so doing things like these brings the girls and their fans back to earth. It's not like it's the fans ranking their beauty. And I agree, the comments take themselves too seriously and are coincidentally Blink or 4th gen fans which is probably why their idols see themselves in such high regards. This is why SNSD has always delivered--their savage and true to themselves.

Jeezus. Can the comments not use our 2022 collective mindset when watching this video? This came out in 2010, during their "Oh" era. At the time, things like this could be done without causing mental and emotional damage.
This ranking was not intended to harm the girls. It was meant to be funny that all SNSD members were able to catch on quickly. Sooyoung and Hyoyeon got ranked "higher" than Jessica, Yoona, Yuri and Seohyun because at the time --- if you are not aware --- both Sooyoung and Hyoyeon were the least favored/popular SoShi members. Hyoyeon always got crappy hairstyles and outfits and very little to no lines in some of their songs while Sooyoung only fared slightly better in hair, outfits and lines by a few percentage.
Yoona's reaction was only because she is the center and most pretty by Korean standards. If you put her in 1st place, that's not going to have the same effect because it's essentially just re-establishing what is already a fact. And rubbing it in Sooyoung and Hyoyeon's faces.
This ranking wasn't done to lower the other girl's esteem but to raise the others. It's not at anybody's expense.
The host who did the ranking is their friend. This was done in good spirit. Let's not overthink and overanalyze.

Because snsd loves to make harsh comments among themselves so I don’t think that many of them felt offended since the mc is a long time friends of theirs. The comments from ''3 months ago'', is the one who barely knows Kim Shinyoung and SNSD. The reason why they ranked up like that and Shinyoung changed their ranking is because, way before she comes to their dorm when they're not busy, Tiffany even said in a variety show (Sang Sang Plus with Yoona, Sunny and Shinee members) that she's the only celebrity that always comes to their dorm but male idols couldn't enter there because it was a forbidden house for males.

But when it comes to being favored in variety, it was Sunny and Sooyoung due to their personalities.
