It's always good to review the basics. Some people forget that it's the SOUND that's important for determining whether to use "a" or "an" and not the head letter of the noun. This is really the trickiest part of it for some students, but it becomes easier with practice. It works with some adjectives preceding nouns as well. An honest person. (aw-nist) A European villa. Nice one, Gill!
August 20, 2022 - After trying to get my question just right for Google search to answer my question regarding the use of "a" and "an". Google search finally offered this video along with some others. Thank you to Gill for very clearly explaining how and why those words should be used. I know a lot of people wish they had her as their teacher in school like I do.
Thank you for this video. Not only is it great information for my students, but the first half is wonderful for having them practice note-taking without overwhelming them.
I love your videos... You are so angeled. I know your channel is a fraction of the entire EngVid channels, but I only watch yours. You are so lovely...
Thank you for the lesson! It's so insightful. I've just seen a video by a native English teacher and unfortunately, she uses letters to determine what article to use, which is misleading. It's all about sounds and whether the noun is singular, countable, or uncountable.
Hood afternoon Jill. Thank you for a claret your lesson in A an An it's was very useful your lesson. I am happy to listening your lesson and I learn better English language. Thank you very much Jill. Wish be many teacher like you with patience who really love a proper job. Looking forward to receive your English lessons.

the first time I wachted this video , It's so helpful to me , Thank you mom ( Could I call you like this). Big thanks Mom Gill I love you, My English so bad If I'm wrong please correct it for me.
Hello! Thanks for your contribution into our accuracy!) Please, if you have time can you explain why are we using article here: "...Mr Dursley hummed as he picked out his most boring tie for work and Mrs Dursley gossiped away happily as she wrestled a screaming Dudley into his high chair."? Thanks!)
Hello ,gill ,my name is Ramzi from Algeria ,I want to learn English language because I love this language ,I can not speak English good ,I will learning English for two years .so the question is:Is enough to talk?(2years) Please answer me . I'm always following your channel . Thank you.😊
For whatever reason it just drives me nuts when Americans or English people who have lived there for at least several generations do not know the difference between when to use a or when do you use an .... it irritates me to no end to hear people say something like that is an beautiful car .... how can they not tell that it sounds really screwed up ? And it drives me nuts when people sound as if they're talking like a four-year-old when they say something like I want a apple . I'm not talking about foreigners and I'm not talkin about people whose family has only been here for a short time . I don't know why this irks me so much but it really does .
Thank you for the nice video, even though I still have a little question about the use of ‘a’ and ‘an’. What happens when you have a noun which is an acronym? If SS stands for ‘source separation’, is it ‘a SS method’, or ‘an SS method’? Thanks again Cheers!

hi Raul -- it's 'an SS method' because the letter S is pronounced 'ess', so it begins with a vowel sound :-)
Very nice lesson ..:)
