Pete, I need to briefly share my cancer story with you. Maybe it will help you somehow and further fortitude your mindset. (Please thumb this comment up so he sees it). I've been diagnozed with testicular cancer 6 years ago. It went on a totally different route than yours though. I've had no symptoms coming from my testicle but I've started expiriencing abdominal pains. At first, they were low in frequency and magnitude, but later on gained a lot of force. The USG and CT scans showed many, many, very big lymph nodes in my abdominal area. The biggest conglomeration of them reaching 12 centimeters in lenght. Yes, CENTIMETERS. It was also my left testicle. High five, huh? Two weeks have passed between the diagnoze and the beginig of my treatment. The pain became so severe, I couldn't sleep at all. I've had the 4 x BEP, same treatment as yours. It wasn't that bad. I ofcourse was exhausted, felt terrible, puked from time to time, my hair fell out and so on. But I felt I was going to beat it. After the BEP chemo I was supposed to have a surgery to get rid of all the remaining (much smaller after BEP) lymph nodes and to examine if the cells were completly dead. While I was waiting for the surgery, the situation made a turn to the worse. I begun to have the same abdominal pains as before, only stronger this time. I've been given morphine to bare the pain, I think it says it all. It turned out that the nodes responded really well during the BEP, shrunk greatly, but now they grew. They reached the original size. I've had a PET scan which showed that I've now had cancerous cells in my lunges, liver and spine aswell. The surgery was postponed. I went to a different hospital which specialised in urologic cancers. I've been given the TIP drugs this time. The dosage was 2 or 3 times of a normal portion. My doctor told my parents that I'm going to live through it and be cancer free or die in the process. Ofcourse they didn't tell me that at the time. I have no idea how I survived the treatment. At the peak of the side effects I would puke 10-15 times a day, couldn't stand or couldn't even speak. I whisperred most of the time. But I did survive it somehow. After the chemo, I've had the retroperitoneal lymph node dissection surgery (RPLND). As I said before, it was to get rid of the remaning nodes and to examine the tissue. The result was 100% cancer cells dead. That was almost 4 years ago. Now I'm cancer free. And so will be you. Your progression stage is nothing compared to mine so you will get through it easilly. Puke a few times and loose your hair for a moment. And after that continue living! For all those who want to squeeze "don't eat meat and you won't get cancer" in everywhere: yes, meat, especially red meat, is a factor. One of many factors. MANY. Pete's lifestyle is pretty healthy anyway and so was mine. Sometimes it just happens. Oh and yeah... I'm a dietitian. Cheers, Pete!

Well, I have no reason to think that it kills tumors, no studies have shown that. I know it makes pain more bareable though. Maybe I should have tried it when I think about it now.
It doesn't kill off tumors though. It may kill of certain cancer cells in certain conditions but there is no evidence to suggest they cure/help cancer in living humans. Doing it in a petri dish is completely different to doing it on humans (for example, fire would also kill cancer cells in a petri dish, you wouldn't want that as a treatment though)

I really like that you post the med side of things. As an rph in the US its crazy to see people entering its into chemo getting all their pre-meds prior to tx, especially Emend?!?! US health care often requires a quite of paperwork before its covered, or it seems like as a retail rph. I'm glad you're covered tho. You're definitely on the right reg. It's going to suck, just stay super hydrated and you'll cut your SE's to just the Etopophos. Stay strong, bro.

I hope you don't get bleomiacin (sp?) as part of your treatment. My wife had that when she had Hodgkins, and it messed up her lungs. Made her really sensitive to high levels of oxygen (like when you have surgery). Good luck in your treatment, and I hope all goes well! Cancer can suck a big one!

Be careful with the dexamethasone. I take it at night to avoid the insomnia that some people get even though it's used for the nausea. That stuff though will have you up and wanting to do everything. But depending on how that chemo effects you, your mind will be wanting but your body won't. That's how it is for me. Keep strong and think positive.
Dang 5 hours in the hospital.... I went to just wait in the health care district...left after 45 min. They changed our health care around here and it's so bad...I just gave up going. It's horrible.
You should consider seeing a naturopathic doctor, they could give you a treatment plan to help with chemo side effects or maybe holistic IV therapy to help support your immune system.
Having been through over 2 years of combined chemo, my night advice is if you're the up, ask your doctor for a diff anti nausea med. Kytril worked best for me. I also Frank a lot more ginger tea.
