I. Just. Did. The. Same. Thing. Yesterday. Literally, with zips and now I have this in my proposed vids I clicked curious of someone's method. Darn those algorithms good.
Thank you very much! This helped me get the ball join boot clip on. One extra tip: If it stil goes difficult with the tie wrap, then only put the tie wraps on the bottom ring of the clip. Then you can put that on first, and put the rest of the clip on by going around the clip with the tie wraps.
I'm installing 4 new ball joints in my 99' IS200, and after I couldn't put this clip on a first boot for 2 hours, I gave up. I will try your trick. Thank you for sharing!
You saved my a$$! I spent 30 plus minutes trying to figure this out so I came on TH-cam and I’ll be damned if your trick didn’t work! I used some penetrating oil on the boot like you suggested along with the zip ties and boom. Thanks man! -Jerry
thanks man, I just press my new one in & have been trying to get the damn clip on for 10+ minutes! Looks like the same control arm as mine (honda accord), I'm trying to do it in place. How are was the arm to remove? Did you have to pull the strut & coil?
Yeah I had to remove the strut to get the upper control arm out. I replaced the rubber bushings where the arm pivots so I had to remove the whole thing anyway. It was a bit of a job to do but it's a Florida car so no rusted nuts or bolts to deal with in the suspension, fortunately! This arm is from a Civic so probably very similar to your Accord.
I tried searching them and it's hard to find the type I show in this video, unless you get it with the boot. As far as I know it's just called a ball joint boot spring clip. If you just need the clip and have too hard of a time finding it you could try using stainless steel tie wire.
The boot? If you want to buy the boot separately from the ball joint you can either try to find the part number for the boot itself, by calling a dealer or searching an oem parts website, or you can see if there is a polyurethane aftermarket one available(Companies like Energy Suspension and Prothane make them for many vehicles).
I don't comment often, but that honestly just turned a headache of a job into "is that all?"
Great tip/ technique, cheers!
I appreciate you taking the time to comment then, cheers!

Just tried your technique. Worked great. Much easier than other ways I have tried. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. Way better than screw driver. Now using 2 people and 4 thirty pound fishing lines at 90 degrees apart will do the job in 1 minute.
OMG thank you heaps... Saved me from setting fire to the vehicle.
The simplest ideas are the best. Thanks

Why is it the video you need shows up three hours too late. And he didn't even get grease on his fingers.
Ha! It's a good day when you don't get grease/oil on your hands doing mechanic work!
... Realizes he forgot the grease, has to repeat. Glad he didn't close the zip ties. 😁
I used 2 plastic tubes at the ends and start from the middle and the ends go in last. One minute job
Doesnt work with rectangular wire (like I have on this Mercedes)
Gotta love that German engineering!
smart
i just did 4 this way ,I told the neighbours a few swear words and then I cut these zap straps off afterwards
Grease it first
