Getting Handsy with the Hitchhiking Ghosts

Well, truth be told, they are missing quite a bit more than that 😳😂
These ghosts (in Disneyland) use the same Pepper’s Ghost effect that is in the ballroom, using glass and selective illumination to make the characters appear. The Magic Kingdom in Florida used to have the same effect but they have updated it with interactive ghosts and no longer have the original effect.
This final scene in the mansion was kind of an after thought ro the design process, and the scene was actually in B-mode during press previews in 1969, possibky because either the models weren’t ready or the mechanism wasn’t working quite right (they rotate on an oval carousel behind the glass mirror). The staging is generally better in the Florida version for gags largely because Marc Davis was more involved there, and I wonder if his guidance plus the benefit of time to perfect the models is the reason we had better hands in the Magic Kingdom.

Other trivia! The animatronics in Florida were unfortunately abandoned when they got replaced by projections. If memory serves, they had asbestos and were not safe to operate. They have since been completely removed and auctioned off.

Thanks for the recommendations! I have heard of them but honestly have never watched much. I don’t retain info when I watch it, so I prefer to read more often than not (and yes I’m aware of the irony of that being a creator myself 😂)

@@disneycicerone I know this is old and kinda weird to be commenting on for that reason but have you ever tried watching videos with closed captions on? I find it helps me retain more.
