Wonderful wonderful stream, it was a joy to hang out with BOTH of you today. You may not be the face of the channel Kels, but you are definitely part of the heart. I look forward to seeing more of you in future. 😘
Oooooh yes, I would be so down for a Kelsey's Corner!! Seeing someone who is just having fun exploring all kinds of stories without any preconceived notions is just so refreshing on booktube, plus... it seems like Kels has great tastes ;) This was an absolute blast, you two have such great chemistry, maybe you should marry her 🤣❤
I literally was smiling the whole 2 and a half hours watching you two! What a great time and it’s amazing how part of “ the community “ something like this makes me as a content consumer feel. Thank you Jimmy and Mrs. Nutts and if you do a reading vlog when Kelsey starts ASOIAF I think it will be time for my first reread of the series!!
Great episode, very fun and I really appreciated many of the things you guys were saying. I think most people like most of the books they read, and for some reason a lot of people seem not to realize this. As I said, I have very strong opinions about a lot of books that I love, but there's really not that much stuff I hate.
Thank you so much for sharing your time with us Jimmy, and now your amazing wife!! You guys are such a delight together! 🥰 I look forward to more! And honestly, you guys reading Game of Thrones together may be the straw that finally gets me to pick it up... I always seem to miss when everyone else is doing read alongs. 😅 It feels rare to come across someone else who also hasn't read it yet, minus Bookborn (who absolutely inhaled it, so... 🙈🤷♀️ Lol)
Such a pleasure to see Kelsey! As a huge Robin Hobb bro, I’d love to hear her thoughts about the series in more detail. Her perspective is so neat and she’s very articulate (like you Jimmy)!
That was such a refreshing episode of CWN. Mrs. Nutts and you have a great chemistry and it's actually quite entertaining to watch you talk about those books you have in common and those you don"t, I think this episode and the one with Andrew are two of my favorites. They bring something a bit different than the usual booktube sphere suspects. As I said refreshing.
Cool that you're visiting the GoT stuff. I'm from the north coast of Ireland originally but I've been living in Belfast for the last 20 years so you'll be in my neck of the woods. Have a great time!
24:00 I am exactly that way. EVEN shows that famously have great or good endings, I usually avoid finishing because I dont want them to be over. I did make an exception with GoT though and, well... :D
George is always at WorldCon. Hobb goes to a few cons. And remember, WorldCon, on averages is a SF con primarily. Good times. I went to it when it was here in Denver.
Sad I missed this live! Love seeing spouses that actually LiKE each other! I think it’s so neat that not only did K pick up reading but that Jimmy then shows an interest in what she reads. Gotta love partners supporting each other! Kelsey- I recently read A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley, and loved it! Takes place in a fantasy town set in current times, sweet (and spicy!) romance with fun side characters you follow in subsequent books. Also, a stand alone you might enjoy is Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant. Killer mermaids. Yup. This was super fun, hope to see y’all together on screen more often!
Great stream! Love having Mrs. Nutts around more. Jimmy I wanted to tell ya that I started A Song Of Ice and Fire for the first time in the beginning of December and finished it in March including Dunk and Egg. Went straight into Malazan for the first time after that and just finished the crippled God a few weeks ago. I don’t know if reading all of that back to back was healthy but holy crap I loved both series so much. Watched all of your discussion videos for both series as I read them and it enhanced my experience so much
Great stream. I too watch booktube on the main TV. My husband, who is not a reader, listens with me to a select few. So he knows quite a bit about the books I read without even reading lol.
What a great discussion, I really enjoyed this. Also seamless debut from Kelsey, she came across so well. I feel like I would forget how to construct sentences if I was sat on camera knowing people are watching
This was great! Back when I was making videos my wife often helped behind the scenes with our lighting and such so this felt both relatable and cozy AF.
I also read Pet Sematary when I was 12. Gave me the creeps :D Never had that feeling again when you're reading in the dark on a school night and suddenly you're enveloped by this dark cloud and life isn't so wholesome anymore, haha.
Awesome time, thanks for answering all of my questions. You guys are adorable. Much love to both of you and all who participated. Hope we get to see more Kelsey and Denver in the future! Oss! 😄🤙
This was a great chat, thanks for the video! I just got klara and the sun from the library and am excited to hear your thoughts on it. P.S. I will also be going to the Library of Congress Book Festival!
Im all for the idea of you and Allen giving space and even solo videos on your channel to your significant others! This was such a fun chat. I'm guessing doing this regularly would be something the community will appreciate greatly. Even so, Kelsey's Corner is a must at this point.
Jimmy! I will be reading Ash next month (I would this month but I am locked into Women in Translation month right now) so hold onto those spoiler thoughts because we have to do a chat about it. Can't wait for your vlog on it regardless and as ever, another great episode of Chatting with Nutts! EDIT: actually you got me excited about Ash so I started reading it already and WOW this one does not pull punches immediately out of the gate. Already find myself keep notes on quotations. The way Gentle frames certain actions or writes about things is just incredible. I didn't expect to be this impressed just a few pages in. Also loving the formal presentation of it all.
@@thefantasynuttwork I don't blame you but I hope you keep on keeping on with it! I think fantasy works this ambitious and especially one so obscure deserves a spotlight.
1. I immediately looked up Deluge by Stephen Markley and added it to my tbr 2. Yeeesss Kelsey should read Earthsea and do a Kelsey's corner on it!! 3. Have either of you played Dragon Age? That's the beauty of art, we all bring something different, even if it shares 98% of the common opinion. I'm reading Hobb's Dragon Keeper and Weeks' Black Prism after hearing plenty of mixed things about them (especially Weeks' stuff), and I'm really liking them so far. I used to be that person that wanted to wait for the hype to die down for things, but why tho? Why not now? Why delay potential enjoyment? Same, Reaper's Gale is my least favourite in the series but your group discussion really helped me digest it and reflect on it the way it deserved to be, and its probably the book I look forward to re-reading the most, more than books I love in the series. If that's not a sign that a series is great I dunno what is. Althea is my favourite (human) POV in Liveship Traders, Paragon is my favourite POV generally but my favourite Liveship character is Amber tho...
Oh! I really loved Lawrence Krauss early stuff, even though he’s now a sad grifter. Also Brian Greene and anything he has published a long with Sean Carrol. Neil Degrasse Tyson Death By Black Hole was also fantastic.
Sanderson writes to the common denominator. This is both good and bad. He wants his writing easily accessible to everyone. And that is why he is as successful as he is. Sadly, though, I think he stunts his talent and what his prose could be. We got a taste of his true skill in The Emperor's Soul, but his writing I feel could be leagues better if wrote not for the general audience and wrote to his skill. He won't be as obtuse as Wolfe, but I would prefer a Sanderson who took more time with his books and didn't spell out everything to the reader.
So many comments from me. Purple prose is a term so overused and misunderstood. As you said, it is either good writing or bad writing or writing not for you. Saying its purple is lazy.
