I took a creative writing class many years ago, and it was quite refreshing. One of the things he started with was that he asked us what we thought of strawberries. The small group looked at each other, wondering where this was going. He asked everyone individually and got some likes and don't likes. He then asked us what that told us about strawberries. Again, awkward looks at each other until he said that it said nothing about strawberries. So, let's go deeper. Why did someone like them-well, they're sweet, and as she used to eat too many sugary sweets, strawberries were a nice substitute. I only like them on yoghurt and honey etc. We all told tales of strawberries. And afterwards the teacher asks again, what does all this say about strawberries. This time we looked at each other with smiles across our faces and all agreed it told us nothing. But we knew some interesting things about each other. That was how we approach a piece of Art and how we tell stories.
Bookborn was my official introduction to the world of booktube starting just last year due to her ASOIAF reviews and essays. Thank you for holding my hand this has been a real pleasure.
I’m all for long form content! It gives me something to listen to and go about my day. I don’t have to find something to add to the queue and all of that.
Halfway in and this convo is a gem Jimmy. You guys have great back and forths. Reading can be a solitary hobby to have. Grateful for the podcasts. Have a great saturday my dude 🙂
Love hearing you two talk about a song of ice and fire. A couple of weeks after I reread A game of Thrones, Bookborn's video in defense of sansa came out and with her usual eloquence, she put everything I was thinking into words. When I was younger and read it for the first time I remember resenting Sansa for her behavior and for her gullibility, but now I read it as an adult and all I could think was she's a kid, what was she supposed to do and think? Also, I love watching these, hope you keep chatting with people for a long time :) P.S I wish I could watch these live, but the curse of the time zones :(
Funny how I enjoy listening to you two gush over ASOIAF more than actually reading the books themselves, lol. This was so fun, Bookborn always makes me feel slightly dumb and I love her for it hahaha. Also, it is truly heartbreaking to hear about the negative and inane backlash that both of you have to deal with, especially because you are both such GEMS and deserve nothing but love. Thanks for the entertainment again, Jimmy ☺
Cat Stark is one of my all time favorite characters. I also get slack for Navani being my favorite character in Stormlight Archives... I don't understand why people refuse to understand that different things in books speak to all of us differently, and that is the beauty of the whole thing! Love you guys!😊
In reference to Bookborn's comment about people liking videos being validating even though they shouldn't: You should absolutely take pride in your work. The two of you and Mike are my top three booktubers and a large part of that is the quality and sincerity of your content.
@@thefantasynuttwork Not just Hillary Jimmy. Your channel is one of the first ones I check when I decide to look at TH-cam. Your balance of quality content and sincerity and passion is something that is absolutely unique in the community and something you should definitely take pride in.
A bit late, but wonderful conversation! Bookborn gave an idea about doing an ASOIAF Winds of Winter theories' livestream when she finishes the books, with you knowing everything and her clueless. Don't know if it was actually an idea or more like a joke, but I think it would be great, seeing someone piece things together would be funny to see, and I believe there's no video about this. Again, great livestream!
Oh my god, I’ve been watching bookborn for months thinking she reminded me of someone, checked this video out because you were on her show the other day. IT IS THE WOMAN FROM THE AMERICANS. It’s her spitting image 😂😂😂
"A lion does not concern himself with the opinion of the sheep" will never not live rent free in my head, that scene was so good! ASOIAF slaps! I don't care that it'll never get finished because the story that is out is a mindblowing, life changing experience. I think some people have the WRONG opinion that the female characters suck because of the tv show, they honestly didn't do a good job with that. And some people LOVE to pretend they've read the books when they haven't...
Jimmy someone who makes REALLY long form content on booktube is KrimsonRogue. He’s a booktube veteran and not only would you love his extended breakdowns and analysis of books but I’d love to see him on Chatting with Nutts.
Currently reading Asoiaf Catelyn Stark is one of my faves. Sansa might not be my favorite but does not deserve the hate. I love how Sansa’s worldview changes after her father’s death. Really great stuff, Martin nails pov as well as female characters (Brienne❤!). I wonder who’s going to be on episode 69.. 👀👀👀
I actually would love to see where Sanderson goes with more freedom in his writing. I get the sense that he is someone who's constantly trying to improve his craft and I wonder if Stormlight is maybe not allowing him to explore new writing styles or improve as much as doing what he wants to do will.
On a more serious note, I've seen many booktubers pronounce regular English words wrong. Now I wonder if it's just a coincidence... Maybe it has to do with reading so many books...? Jimmy (niche, epitome), Bookborn (pedantic), Merphy and etc.
Jimmy I know you loved the Dragonbone chair! Stephen Aryan is having a live panel discussion with Shauna Lawless and Mike Shackle on February 9th 4:00 pm est!!

i just started of blood and fire by ryan cahill and its so tropey and kinda not the best but for some reason i cannot stop reading it😂😂I usually dnf books soooooo quickly. Its just fun and well enough written that im having a good time, and if the next books are even better im all in!
Hi Jimmy I've been watching booktube for over a year now and I love both of your channels, as well as Philip's, Allen's, Jake Bishop's etc. Chatting with Nutts is one of my favorite parts and this was a great episode. I've really loved all of Bookborn's ASIOAF videos and I'm happy she's enjoying the series. I also strongly agree with the sentiment that a Booktuber should feel free to make whatever content they want. I've been considering creating a channel so I can comment on videos for a while, but I haven't until now. Its just there are a few things in this video that I've heard too many times and simply can't let slide any further... The first thing is you saying you don't agree with Brandon Sanderson on very much. While I can't claim to know specifics, I'll just say that the general trend of your political views is pretty obvious to anybody who watches a lot of your channel, and as someone who is very knowledgeable about Sanderson I can say that actually you do agree on a lot of things. The second thing is the absence of appreciation for Sanderson's themes. Stormlight is my favorite series of all time (and I don't really want it adapted either), and I also consider it to be thematically the strongest work of fantasy I've ever read. And I'm putting it, not just generally but in terms of themes specifically, above books like Earthsea, ASOIAF, the Dispossessed, The Edan Trilogy, and A Song for Arbonne, which are, by the way, all amazing. I was astounded when I first found out that some people don't like Brandon's thematic work. Admittedly, I haven't read Stormlight in a while and I don't really expect this comment alone to convince you of anything, but at some point I will create a channel and make a deep-dive in to Sanderson's themes and philosophy and prove you and Jared Henderson wrong. For now, I'd just ask you to spare a thought or two to reconsider. For example, what do you think about the exploration of art in Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, or about its commentary on the nature of duty? I think Yumi is in fact a clear condemnation of the idea that we should all just shut up and accept our lot in life. Thank you for existing, thank you for making videos, and expect to see more of me in the future. Also you should totally write more, that first paragraph of one of your stories you read a few months ago was great.
When have I ever said that Sandersons themes aren’t solid? Me disagreeing with some of his more introspective lines in a story is not the same as theme. Also, feel free to share your opinion and make videos, I encourage it. But “prove me wrong” would mean that I am in some way stating I’m being objective or believe my opinion to be a fact which neither are true. I have zero authority or objectivity about any of this. I’m a moron with a camera lol. Cheers
@@thefantasynuttwork Whoa you responded really fast thank you and its kind of surreal to have you respond to my comment. Sorry if I misrepresented your argument, although I'll say that I personally love a lot of Hoid's philosophical musings. Also you're definitely not a moron.
