The opening credits of Psycho is a masterpiece I can listen to over and over. I'm glad you highlighted the use of pizzicati. Fascinating analysis. Thank you

He should have won his second oscar for this.

Actually, the Tristan chord feels like a B7, going into a E7, that never resolves into A minor. If we use Jazz notation that would be B13/F (#11 is in the bass) going into E7#11. And for Ab(add #11) / C going into Am9, we have the Ab-D tritone that we can find in E7 (more G#-D in this case). The C can be interpreted as a b13 in E7, but the Eb is a bit a mistery to me. It could see as a chromatism that will go into the E in the Am chord. I know this kind of analysis is a bit simplistic but it highlights the dissonances that generate melodic movements towards stability.

I'm doing the Edexcel Music A-level, and these lectures line up nicely with the syllabus so far. Amazing video with some great editing too, good luck on your future videos!

Glad to hear you're finding the videos useful. The A-level syllabus seems to cover a lot of really interesting topics at the moment!

There’s also a film about the Beatles’ Revolver at th-cam.com/video/J-_YwcrIPIM/w-d-xo.html and we will be posting more on Revolver soon. We hope to look at most of the pieces on the A level syllabus in the next few months. In the meantime, feel free to spread the word!”

From the snippet, the Torn Curtain prelude reminds me a lot of the bizarre and fantastic score of Dark City (1998) , although I guess that was more overtly quoting Metropolis. th-cam.com/play/PLohYzz4btpaS4SLdMAtL5xp2wgv8-ul3J.html

I love Hitchcock's filming but Torn Curtain is a film I would never see again. The only redeeming value is the music.

Great video - I've been watching many analyses of Herrmann's psycho soundtrack and this is the deepest one I've seen!

I like your analysis of the music from Verigo, North by Northwest and Psycho and the comparison and contrast of the music of RW, IS and BH.

You should dissect Herrmann's score for Hangover Square.
Who are you to judge so called, unsubstantiated "moral ambiguity" Stick to music analysis

I'm a human being. That gives me a right to judge moral issues. You too have judged me...that's fine. You have the right to disagree.
