Make your home look festive with this rustic shelf or give as a gift to someone special. Fill it with decor, Christmas cards, candles, or family photos. It costs less than $16 to make, only uses 3 materials, and is not a hard build. It measures 32" tall and 20 1/2” wide. With 2 hooks for hanging stockings or other decor.

Plans: Ana White created these amazing plans. They are easy to follow and have lots of pictures. Such a fun build. So please check them out at: www.ana-white.c...
    Materials:
    - 2 - 1x4’s 10 feet long (although I did buy more than necessary)
    - 1 1/4” black screws
    - 2 black hooks
    - Minwax Dark Walnut
    Changes to the plans:
    - I cut the board that makes the trunk 10 1/4” so that it would look more like a trunk
    - I used 1x4 instead of plywood for the shelf support because I had it and it looked nicer
    - I used screws instead of nails to make it stronger
    - Instead of using hooks to hang it, I used 2 1/2” screws straight into studs in the wall to keep it from falling on my kids or pets, as this shelf is heavy
I am not an expert, just a regular woodworker, sharing my experiences with you. This is meant for entertainment purposes only.

Very nice!! You don’t need pointers from anyone, but please think about removing your jewelry before using power tools. I was going to g to make these for my wife office friends, but she has seven of them! Maybe I’ll just make the one. Thanks for the how to!

Great tip. I do now but back then I didn’t know. Good for others to see this as well.

I watch a TON of woodworking videos. All the greats - April, Steve, Tamar, Wood Whisperer, etc. I think the way you demonstrate each step, and the way you lay this out - is better than anyone I've seen. Thank you so much.

Were the boards you used dressed 1” which would make them 3/4” ?
