- Harry Chapin - Rockpalast Live taped in Germany on April 12, 1977
All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown
Moon rolls through the night-time till the daybreak comes around
All my life's a circle I can't tell you why
Seasons spinning round again, the years keep rolling by
Seems like I've been here before, and I well remember when
I've got a funny feeling that we'll all be together again
No straight lines make up my life, all my roads are bends
There's no clear-cut beginning and so far no dead ends
I've found you a thousand times, I know you've done the same
Then we lose each other, it's like a children's game
If I find you here again the thought comes through my mind
Life is like a circle, let's go round one more time
Note: The syncronization was a bit off, so I fixed and re-uploaded this wonderful song. directorzone.cy...
This man was a really profound song writer and observer of human beings. The world lost a treasure when he was taken from us.
Agreed
I wish I had had the chance to see him in concert, but I live in Nevada, and he pretty much stayed in the NY area. One of the greatest losses of humanity in one man there ever was.
I heard he died in a plane or car crash, God rest his soul
@@TheNthPeterLEE I heard he was driving a vw bug and changed lanes under a semi truck!!! I was fortunate to see him twice in concert sure for miss his energy, talent, and thought provoking songs!
@@sandrasabatka4866 he had a heart attack while driving and crashed is car on the freeway. R.I.P. Harry
I am 68, my children
are in their 30's with
families of their own.
I would sing these lyrics
to them until I could not
stay awake any longer.
Now, years later they
sing the same words to
there children. Beautiful!
Beautiful 💗
Lester - I'm 69. I saw Harry Chapin in concert in Kansas City in 1979 or 1980. This was my favorite song of his. I listened to it about a bzillion times, and yes, I sang along!⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spelling please....geez I hope not......stupid we are not.....poor Harry.......how horrible. ..... George Washington Bridge......
I love this song.....And Seals and Croft....the black bands also.... don't care for rap or hip hop though ....
My mom sang it to Me. Now I do to my daughter. ❤
I met Harry in 1981 during his final concert tour. In New Orleans at the Saenger Theater. I shook his hand and he looked me in the eyes...and into my soul. I visited his grave in Huntington, New York, and left coins on his tombstone. I said, "Harry, keep the change." I've never gotten over missing him. He had such an impact on me. I love you, Harry, and I miss you so much.
I talked with Harry twice.. in 1975, and in 1977. Not just a hello, but for more than an hour each time.. sitting on the edge of the stage, our feet dangling over.. just shooting the sh*t, him and I after everyone had left. He was a profoundly generous, kind, and intelligent man of conviction. Part of me still mourns his loss after all these years.
Davd, they were saying in the Documentary, I watched, how he would just start talking and talking to a person.
A good man.
Are you perhaps related to Kevin?
I still have two unused tickets to his last concert....the one he didn't make it to. This music has never been replaced.
😢
I was lucky enough to see him play at Genesee community college In February 1973. I ate pizza and drank beer with him. I was a student security guard for him
I saw him twice at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, the first time was in the fall of 1977, only a few months after the performance in this video. His concerts were magic. I'll never forget them. I can't believe we're coming up on the 43rd anniversary of him being taken from us. How much better would this world have been if he had not been taken so early in his life.
I remember when he died. I was 12, at sleep-away camp, and the music director at our camp apparently had a close personal connection of some sort with Mr. Chapin, and was a big advocate of his music, sometimes performing it with a band for the campers. When he died, there was a pall hanging over our camp for days, dissipating over weeks. I always get doubly sad hearing the sad song "Cat's in the Cradle," thinking how Mr. Chapin's life just flew by just as in the song, without a chance to realize the possibilities built into his early promise, the fulfillments deferred to a day that would never come.
Harry my good old friend...how I miss you...and Harry....it still sucks ....
His music touches my soul in a way that no other music ever has. It has been my "touchstone" throughout my life. What an incredible man he was. May we all be together again!!
I think this is my favorite Harry Chapin song..It gives me shivers and makes my eyes water...wonderful Harry ..May you rest in peace.Gone but never forgotten..
Music for good people. Honestly, what kind of person gives a song like this a thumbs down?!?!
Quarter century of listening to this song. People have been born. People have died. And still all my life is a circle
We saw Harry a few times over a period of time. Even got to talk to him for a few minutes, and his humanity was an energy that you could always feel, from his person or from his music. No songwriters like him will come our way soon.
I love this guy. Whatever happened to normal people that just had faith and trust in the world? It does seem true that only the good die young.
The world lost a tremendous man when Harry died. I saw him in concert twice. The second time was in Seattle.During the intermission we got to talk to him. He had given a concert in Bremerton the night before, then flew to Chicago for a metting on world hunger before returning to Seattle. What an awesome man.
we got the album at home harry !!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 you can tell the chemistry in the group is awesome!!! Miss Harry and his awesome music !!
I was at this concert! It was amazing. I was so excited. His music touches your soul. We just don't have people like this in the industry now.
Ginger Ginger I was there too...you remember who opened the show...
Hope neither of you are part of the scene around the 4:28 mark! How would you like to have your mug in that shot!
I was able to see Harry in concert not long before his death - just a great show and person.
Great memories PATTI from Rhode Island USA ✌️❤️🎶
Hello Patricia 👋
Harry Chapin was a story teller, and his stories were awesome! `
My favourite artist of all time the world lost a great human being when harry passed his legacy lives on
His songs stimulate deep thought
This song is... philosophically timeless, what a priviledge to take the time to interpret it and consider what it means, to me...this is a classic, very powerful..
Nice little song!
I met him when I was a police officer .. had to give him some gas to make a concert in a college town near the town I was working in. Harry sent me a couple of his albums and a nice letter. I will always remember his kindness and a friendship that has lasted for many years since, RVP
Great
You did a kindness, and it came back to you. That's a beautiful thing.
I live in Ithaca and had the pleasure of seeing Harry many times even through Cornell University I'm so sorry he's gone I have missed him all these years at one point knew his daughter
2020 and still a great song...just imagine what could have been...
Harry Chapin was the best his concerts were like a magical experience. I am so thankful that I saw him in concert before he died in tragic automobile accident but his songs and Humanity will live on forever Roxie Nicholson
Awesome you got see him...I have a very long list, I wish I was old enough to have seen. Harry def is on my list...
My grandmother sang on stage during a concert of his because she sold out all the tickist to a concert
What a great song by Harry Chapin! I always smile when I hear it! I'm so glad I got to see Harry two times in concert, and shake his hands and speak to him after one of his concerts in 1980 or 1981! Peace, BobbyK
To copy a quote Chills and Goosebumps. Harry and friends are awesome story tellers. I can't get enough!!!!
My dad used to sing this to me before I went to sleep. I love this song
My favorite Harry Chapin song as well. I knew Harry, and he was the best.
Watching this video still gives me chills. Thanks Harry for sharing your stories with us!!
I heard about Chapin singing this song in the book, Where The Wind Blows, a cool book about a family living off their sailboat. I had to look it up.
his songs told the most wonderful stories..Harry died way too young
It shows the audience. Man. If I were in that audience I'd hop I showed a bit more appreciation. Then again, you don't realize what you have until it's gone.
all my life's a circle.....harry was ahead of his time!!!..peace harry!!!
LOVE, love Chapin!!! I got in to him in the late 60's with Sniper, and can't even pick my favorite, except maybe "Any where's a Better Place to BE,..one of his best!!!! They are all so good!!! Love my Harry!!!!
what a great artist he will be missed dearly
LOVE this song.
Wish he was still here...I so loved all his albums...and glad he lived in a time that he will live on..
The first single I have ever bought was The New Seekers' version of this. I was 7. I didn't know till this day in 2020 that it was a Harry Chapin song. Tremendous.
I had Tickets to see Harry on July 17th, 1981 at the Garden State Arts Center in Homdel NJ. I saw him in concert every time I could. When it came over the radio in my vehicle of his Unbelieveable Tragic Loss. I was driving down the Garden State Parkway, I had to pull over and began to Cry. I Love his Music, his Love for Humanity, and he was beyond his years a Master Trubador. I Loved his Music and Him So Much. "All My Lifes a Circle" will Forever be etched in my Mind and Voice. Thank You Harry for Everything, Love you My Brother - because All My Life is but a Circle!!!! "Gunny"
saw him in Belfast ,it cant be 32 years ago it just cant. Go big guy!!!!!
"that we,ll all meet again"......awesome
I am so thankful that this beautiful video is still available to see ❤
“All my life is a cirlce.. sunrise and sundown.. the moon rose thru the nighttime until day break comes around… all my life is a circles.. but I can’t tell you why.. the seasons spinning round again.. the years keep on rolling bye… “
Harry was so joyful when he was singing. I saw him at Constitution Hall in DC back in the seventies. Wonderful experience, the best concert I have ever attended, he was a great guy and the concert was all for charity. Thanks Harry. I still miss you!
Yea, I saw him at Balwin Wallace College in the 70s. He was great.
One of my all time favorite performers; also, he was a very altruistic person
Still loving this in 2023.
Something spiritual about the circle song
Bill Peacock
That's what I thought too.
Yup. That's because he's talking about where we actually live, why the stars always come exactly back to where they started every 365.25 days. Where the sun and moon actually travel, and how that creates our seasons. Most of the greats knew the truth way before we all caught on in February of 2015. We all know this. But we've been indoctrinated in false beliefs. Well we were anyways. So this resonates as true, and you can't tell why. It gives it that spiritual feeling. It's your subconscious and your memories reminding your conscious mind of what it once knew. If you need some others.... Listen to R.E.M.'s Stand, Nirvana's On a Plain, The Who's I can see for Miles or Red Hot Chili Pepper's Californication.

This was just..FUN.
a poet of our baby boomer generation, taken too soon. But at least we can still love you via the modern technology rip Harry
It's been a while, but it's still great. thanks mr Beagle.
I saw Harry Chapin 17 times in 4 years and couldn't get enough of his shows. I sometimes wonder about the stories Harry never got a chance to tell us. Someday, I hope to hear them all, when "we'll all be together again".
Thank you, Harry.
I weep for our loss of such a human being of the highest order...love ya Harry...wish I got to see ya..
You and me both
TH-cam is such a wonderful thing. After watching the Olympics' Ice Dance program and thinking to myself "Damn if Charlie White isn't a dead ringer for Harry!", I had the urge to see Harry again. And less than a minute later I'm immersed in the clear and melodious voice of America's best ever troubadour...and the image of Charlie White! God I miss the music he never got to make!
Would love to point out Harry said "Moves like Jagger" before the song came out =)
Excellent,
My mom used to sing this to me when I had a hard time going to sleep when i was young. That was over 30 years ago now. It's one of my earlier memories in life. Pretty cool to see a live performance of the song.
Awwww nice. 🤗
I first heard Harry sing after a "Hike for Hope" in Rochester NY, it was 1971 and I was a kid of 14. He was playing "Teach your Children" and I was transfixed! I stood listening to his songs as he even played a brand new song off his almost released album, "Sniper and other Love Songs". He played Sniper, I was hooked after that! Harry could tell such amazing stories. He told us about life, loss, love and even obsession. During the 70s I saw Harry 5 times in concert. I even had tickets for his Los Angeles concert in 1981. Nobody saw that show. Since 1981, Harry's spirit, his music and his legacy lives on to this day through his children and his grandkids. I know I am only one of millions his words and deeds have touched. I am so very thankful for the good he did, and for all of the hearts he spoke to. Bless you Harry!!
The late GREAT Harry Chapin..WONDERFUL RIP..
3:26 "You wanna hear the cello player sing this song?" Awesome.
just so good, gota love it.
taxi is a very moving beautiful song! he truly was a great songwriter and musician so sad he's gone! you can tell he had a great spirit...
miss u Harry
IT IS HIS SPIRITS OF INCLUDING EVERY ONE TO SING THE LINES... I FOUND VERY LOVELY ... THE SPIRITS TURN HIGH!... LISTENING TO THE CHEER IN HIS EXPRESSION AND VOICE! LOVED THIS ONE!
Damn i miss the 70s. The pre-Reagan years, before cynicism and jadedness.
Sooo MOVING
Love it!!!
He was one of the best songwriter, storytellers and musical master
what a good man he was.
+cruiser .......yes.....yes he was....
oooh what a lucky man
you mean what a great singer he was
harrys having waaaay to much fun.........way to go harry!
Is that Liam Neeson in the audience? So fortunate to have had a chat with Harry Chapin just prior to his untimely passing. This song seemed fitting today #smallworld
many of the lyrics are incorrect in the description for the video.... which is strange because the lyrics are clear in the song and to change them, changes the meaning
I saw Harry live in1977. After the show everyone waited to get their programs autographed and all the girls (me included) got to kiss Harry!!!
1983.....sung this with my classmates at school.... Abc radio..... Had the book with lyrics on our laps..... Good times!!!!! Some things you just don't forget :) haha
Made my life great again
Love the guy miss him
30 years and your music still lives on!!! rest in peace man
Davenport IA ..... Think It Was The 70's- 80's HaHa

" Two Different Wings Of The Same Bird "
Peace I Hope /;-)
Wow, thanks for posting. Once (quite a while ago, ~whew!~) he made it to a concert in Flint, MI, even tho' his band was snowed it. He did a great one-man show with lots of audience participation. Harry did a lot o' good in his lifetime, and his songs -- and the folks whose lives he touched -- will live on.
Do you miss Harry Chapin, John Prine and Cat Stevens? Come out and see "Mark Collins and the Architects" Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 8pm at the Rock House, 1150 Central Ave, Wilmette, IL 60091 · (North of Chicago) (847) 256-7625. I loved his music, my grandma had me play the 45 I had of Cats In The Cradle And Vacancy alot. I never got to see him in concert
Such a great under-appreciated, overlooked song.
We saw Harry many times, whenever he was in London I made sure we got tickets, he was such a wonderful man, & also so sincere, I was lucky enough to get his autograph, ( the only autograph I've ever asked for), I still have the signed programme, such a sad, sad loss, we need people like Harry today, still remember him with great fondness, but we're lucky to still have these beautiful songs, never stop listening to them!!
Boi i had to dance on this song in grade 1
Harry is one of the fee(very few, Billy Joel, Elton John) that you can find actual feeling and goodness in any song he performed. I was very young when he was killed and I still regret never having a chance to see him live
I saw him in Norfolk in 1978. Great concert. Gone way too soon.
about 30 years ago, I was visiting my aunt, her housekeeper turned me on to Mr. Chapin.
This song embodies the full concept of Karma. What goes around comes around.
Yes. You are right.......
greatest stories live....my fave album of all time!
Love you Harry……….
30 years? Wow .... I missed him in Melbourne by a day or two in probably 79 or so.
My husband wrote the words of this song. He won a poetry contest, & Harry
Chapin bought the copyright.
❤❤
We all miss you Harry you were fabulous like no other. Tom R.
Saw him live at The Mosque (now the Landmark Theatre) in Richmond, Virginia on 27-Oct-78, and of course he closed with this song. I didn't get to see him again, but I'm sure glad I got to see him once.
RIP Harry. 40÷ years and you are still relevant 🙄
I loved his music and story telling. I actually got sympathy cards when he passed. True fan here. Got happy I got to see him twice in concert. Once when he was much younger. He will always be a very special place in my heart!
I saw him in Berea, Ohio in the 70's.
