    New videos about Finland regularly.
Believe it or not, swimming in a hole in the ice really does you the world of good.
'Eek!' 'No way!' 'You Finns are nuts!' These tend to be the first unenthusiastic reactions of tourists faced with the prospect of a dip in an icy lake. Slipping into black, frozen water does bring to mind the fate of the Titanic rather than the exciting prospect of a pleasant swim. Why on earth would anyone take the plunge if they didn't have to? Well, maybe because it's not an extreme sport for masochists, but an experience that leaves you feeling fantastic and refreshed.

It's actually quite different! Going to a cold shower and staying there is actually harder for me than going ice swimming. When you're in a shower with as cold water as you can get from a tap it feels... Well, worse. It's much better to go ice swimming.

I know what she means, my grandmother would take me to do this on her little cottage. Beautiful times.

I tried it in Helsinki this winter but after departing from a Finnish sauna ablaze with heat akin to the sun... it was a fantastic experience, indeed

I think winter swimming got to be your thing or else don’t try it. Also it makes a lot of difference if you do it all the time. It is like trying to lift weights. You don’t start out with the heaviest weights but rather weights you can handle. I have seen many times it is far easier going in the water in the winter than the summer if the mood is right. I usually don’t like to attempt to try it unless I am in the right place at the right time. I can have a ball doing it if the circumstances are right and I have seen times I literally had to get out right away when the mood isn’t right.

Anywhere in Finland where there’s a lake covered in ice. 😆

Finland has over 100,000 lakes. Any of them that have ice.
