Jody, I have been using your videos for almost 20 years now! I taught at Hartford Area Career and Technology Center I Vermont for 15 years. There is no other welding video series that compares with your content. Your use of voice-over and your expertise in videoing the weld is unmatched! I retired for 6 months and have now been teaching at Dartmouth College Thayer school of Engineering. I'm still recommending your videos as the gold standard. Wish you well in this endeavor.

@imwtech HAC&TC That's a good school. I live down the road in NH and know about it and have heard good things from graduates of various types. Dartmouth isn't a horrible school either😁 Cheers Keep up the teaching as long as you can. Those kids need all the help they can get.

I had one year in a pipefitter apprenticeship before my company ended the apprenticeship program. I kept learning welding on my own, and with the help of your videos, and a whole lot of practice time, the same company ended up hiring me on as a journeyman pipefitter/welder. Thank you Jody, you are helping a lot of people.

I am currently in a welding program and trying to get my degree. It would be beneficial if you could create more instructional videos geared toward students like myself. I have been following you for over five years now, and it would be a travesty if all your knowledge were lost. If you made more videos like this one in TIG, STICK, and MIG, aspiring welders like myself would be forever in your debt.

Ah Jody I've watched so many of your videos and you inspired me to go to night college, get my certs and start a very small fabrication business in Ireland. Thank you for all you have done, I don't think you realise what influence you have had worldwide.

At 1:45, best advice ever " fresh out of box or ROD OVEN ". I tensel tested some 7018 left out for a couple of days. The trapped moisture reduced the tensile strength dramatically. As moisture EXPANDS over 1860 times as it turns to steam / vapor in the puddle making arc control impossible. Great video as usual Jody.

I teach at community college, your videos are always on the big screen and I encourage the students to watch your videos. I really helps when I can blow up the videos real big and slow them down so I can show them the importance of what going on at the end of the rod and what is happening

I second @badjeepman, but i didn't teach at a college. I had a small factory for welding, machining and minor assembly. The guys with me usually only knew mig, and with a bit of guidance and your videos, they could tig with the best of us. Really appreciate your work 🎉

Great information and instructions Jody. I'll use this video again when I get some welding time in before long. I'm still learning the hard way. I'm 79 and trying, my wife agrees she says I'm VERY TRYING whatever that means. LOL . Stay safe, Fred.

Great info Jody. I went through welding school and did many welding courses here in Spain. I did the very same practice samples through those years and that's how I teach friends or work colleagues that want to begin welding. The only difference is we use the 6013 rods in schools and courses but that's because they're cheaper. Another difference I see between welds here and over there in the States is, unless job's don't specifically ask for stringer passes, it's all done with weaving passes. Your explanations and videos are the best. 👍🏻

Thanks for the excellent video. In 1973 the instructor started us out with 5/32 6010. Was he just trying to cut down the class size by starting with 6010? I remember making big holes.

I want to become an instructor!
I currently hold and AA in welding technology (2 years of stick/mig/tig schooling) and about a year of field experience. Not quite what you'd call an expert, by any means.
But my favorite part of school was passing on welding techniques that worked for me to another student who was struggling with the same process I struggled through.
For you certified instructors out there, what did the process of getting your certification look like? Is there a "time in field" prior to shooting for certification that ya'll would recommend?
    I appreciate ya'll's input!
Also, Jody, thanks for being such a great instructor, subject matter expert, and down-to-earth blue collar TH-cam buddy. Love your videos!

Probably different for dedicated welding schools but when I did my classroom teaching certificate one of the things I read about was getting state certified as a trades teacher which required at least 5 years in the field experience plus related trade certifications.

I’m really trying to learn but I have a family so financially it’s tough. I bought a new welder. Can’t afford argon tank yet don’t have tungsten or any filler rods and no rods for stick. I really enjoy the little bit of flux MiG welding and appreciate your knowledge. Ty

Jody could you make a video on the best welting helmets for different applications? I've always heard auto darkening isn't great for tig, instead I should use a silver or gold fix shade. Just wonder what your thoughts are on the subject.
