thank you so much for this video and opening statement. i lost my best friend and battle buddy from afghan to suicide. in my barracks room at ft.benning georgia several years ago. we both bonded over our irish ancestry , and love of old rebel songs. He was suffering badly from ptsd and our army refused to admit to responsibility or even help him. he died a hero still fighting a war in his mind. remember the fallen.
patrick sisti i know your comment is from a while ago but i'm so sorry for ur lose i think people don't know what war is these days and that to many glorify war
patrick sisti lost my best friend to suicide, he came back from over sea a sniper in the Marines. he couldn't talk about what was in his head. ended up putting a 12g shell though his head.
As a combat vet for the US Army who served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan I wanna say thank you for writing this song and caring, it meant a lot to me, as a long time fan to know you guys cared. Hooah Lads and Lasses!
My veteran mom loved this song and I play it for her today, sending her all the love in heaven. She struggled with PTSD my whole life. It was torture to watch.
Thank you Flogging Molly for this awesome song/video. Semper Fi to the father in law from a fellow Marine Corps Veteran who was part of a different war.
My Father went down in WWII at the russian frontline.... If any son did what you done so many fathers wouldn't have gone down. Thank you so much !!!! CW (Germany)
The video is an excellent figurative display of how PTSD affects its victims (especially those who have seen the horror of war) and those close to the victim. As for the song itself.......truly amazing. The intro sends chills down my spine every time I listen, and the chorus is as awesome as it gets. The band never fails to deliver great music.
hey I just want to say to all the people saying this is a horrible video,, shhh flogging molly do not make millions of dollars and do not need to hire cgi experts to make a video to help convey the message they sing about in this song,, the video itself is simple yet effective, it's rough, scarred and helps us to understand in a way what is going through a persons head when suffering from PTSD,, if anyone reading this has PTSD or any thoughts relating to suicide what so ever you are not alone you are valued and you do belong regardless of what anyone may think or say about you, get help do not think anyone would think less of you for doing so :)
An amazing song and video. My brother with PTSD was admitted to the hospital tonight for trying to kill himself. PTSD is one of the most frustrating disorders to deal with for all involved. Flogging molly is an amazing band, I truly appreciate them supporting this cause.
HEY NOW, STAY PROUD! Just because society failed you, it doesn't mean you're a failure. Beg no more in your corner, stand up and look out for vulnerable people, offer hugs freely, refuse to hate, see the positive. Live a life!
Sorry about cluttering the page. The reason I put that was because I DID watch the video and it really touched me for personal and intellectual reasons. I tried to convey that in my original post. That guy just got to bugging me and I felt compelled to post further comments even though it is never a good idea to feed the troll. But you are right; this is an incredibly powerful video. Few music videos add much to the experience in my opinion, however this is a fantastic exception. Great stuff.
See you in a week. As a vet of Afghan and iraq who lost too many brothers to suicide, a sincere thank you. First time I heard this song it shook me to my core. Semper Fi to your pops
@THExxPALExxRIDER dude chill out take a breath... there are awesome people all over this planet don't turn this amazing song into a forum for macho posturing. This is something so far beyond that. Thank you and may the light shine on you and yours
I would love to give a Special Thanks to flogging Molly, this song made want to pursuit a dream in psychology. I am aiming for my PhD to help veterans :-)
This is truly art. There can be no beauty without pain; when you try for that goal of circumventing this truth you create something artificial that leads to the problems which make society ill. This is beautiful and most importantly, thought provoking. It reminds me of Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit, the Matrix, and most of all H.G. Wells' The Time Machine. True art is something to connect with, helps with your own personal issues and needs. This is really good stuff (song and video).
I'm from New York. A very large percentage of the Irish still in the old country have family here, and many people here (at least in NYC) have family in Ireland (I'm one of them). We have friends and family who live on this side of the Atlantic who were born there, and friends and family who were born here and have moved to Ireland (and love it, I wouldn't mind moving). By the way, I know they have a lot in common. They mix well, that's where I get my last name from jerk.
i think it was written the way it was so it wouldnt just mark it as a song for one specific group...but for everyone everywhere suffering from depression and PTSD
Whatever reason they joined the military for, be it self betterment by learning discipline & order, or the desire to go to college, they didn't sign up for committing such crimes. They are told from the get-go that they must follow orders or else they endanger the lives of their friends, and disobeying orders is treason. Look at Snowden who paid the price of doing the right thing, and doing right is harder on the front lines. Blame the General, not the soldier haunted for life by memories of war
lol, no need to apologize for him. It's amazing what some of my brothers and sisters think and are willing to defend even where there is overwhelming evidence against his or her point. Ah the joys of being an American and growing up in the good old US of A. There is a reason why i can't wait to travel away from here and all the chaos that happens because of us.
@Sabhalta First he wasnt trapped, cornered, or even forced to be there. He was a wounded bunny returning home after being attacked by a wolf. He could of went down any hole but that was his home. It doesnt make sense. Rabbits dont wage war against wolves its not like he was on a 6 month tour to another country fighting a war. Dont try to be cute.
PTSD doesnt just come from war...it comes from any severely traumatic incident...rape...physical attacks(i.e. physical bullying)...mental attacks(i.e. verbal assault)...it isnt just soldiers anymore...and it never really was...most of these young kids commiting suicide just cant deal with bullying anymore and commit suicide because they see it as a way out...i was bullied...not only in school...but at home by a brother that to this day wants to kill me...and yes...i have been diagnosed with PTSD
YES.... Because a sad song, with a depressing video is exactly what someone thinking about suicide needs to look at to change their mind. (Sarcasm) ^ ^ ^
THExxPALExxRIDER is unbelievable man. thank god i have allies like you! You know what he is? He's ignorant. He just swallows what is force-fed him. He doesn't think!
just found out i have PTSD from things that my ma did to me. i don't know what to do. i just lay in bed while people tell me to just be happy. the meds help the nightmares and freakouts. but they don't help the hopelessness. it's like I'm drowning and everyone i know is watching me die and not doing a thing. i need a fucking friend.
just like they watched my mother beat the shit out of me every day and did absolutely nothing. they actually made fun of me..my own family. say i wasn't an easy kid. but acting out is one of the signs of abuse. mpst most of my troubles were i did something slightly bad and would try and cover it up before my ma found out and it just made things worse. she broke her hand punching me once. she beat me for having white friends. she beat me for looking like my father
We stood by in Rawanda and watched the genocide while we could have effortlessly stopped in in a matter of hours. Instead, the soldiers received orders to just sit back and enjoy the show. America is not better or worse than any other superpower, but we are NOT by ANY MEANS heroic warriors. We are just another superpower that commits the worst atrocities in the world.
@Sabhalta Wow the college kid likes the animations. For some reason I dont think a warrior of combat would see it this way. Since I showed my brother who served in Iraq and watched other warriors fall. He thinks it to be very poor depiction of what other warriors are going through. He also thinks its wrong that these people would even attempt to try and make a video based on thier situations.
And, just because I love the ideals America was founded upon doesn't mean I agree with the government or society. If you love Ireland (as you seem to) well then the Republic was founded on the same principles of the Enlightenment. The Rebellion of 1789 which really got the ball rolling was part of the Age of Revolutions, and is directly tied in with the American and French Revolutions. These ideals are all we have to better the future. You are making things worse.
Angers me to some degree to hear about PTSD in American soldiers. If going to war is traumatizing, just imagine the experience of the people who America has invaded. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed, imagine how many of the witnesses to those deaths, especially loved ones, are affected by "trauma". They didn't train, they're unarmed. They didn't expect America's fetish for playing superhero would come down as bombs upon them. STOP WAR, and you won't have to worry about PTSD.
There are also famous Vietnam photographs depicting American soldiers laughing and pointing at burning Vietnamese children as they run, naked and crying from villages that had been burned and pillaged by our troops.
@Sabhalta How can you be so wowed that I am still going when you have replied to me just as many times i have had to you. Actually i didnt say peace out. I typed it. SO YOU PUKE WHEN OTHER PEOPLE TYPE ON A COMPUTER PEACE OUT? WOW.
@btgscg will you and amibidhrohi2006 calm down. Both of you are right. Yes we have these "superheroes" to allow us to speak like this and about this, but you also have to think about the people being affected by our war against them.
@Sabhalta Well I am sorry if my comments offended you I must be hitting a little to close to home for you. Thats why this video has just a little under 16000 views in a year. Like i said the video weakend the song thats just the cold hard facts.Bunnies can never give an even close depiction of what its like to come back from war, Sorry And thats probaly one of the sorriest insults i have heard. Its just a liitle to cute and to original.
@mcdrunkin Tell me what you would do in Canada?Canada has only an 1/8 of the population of America. There are so may laws and regulations that keep money making buisness out.Thats why the population is down and people like you cant go there.Canada is a Nature Preserve. You farm, drink, and help preserve nature. Thats why thier not making near as much money as other countries. They do make some alchohol though.I will agree on Austrailia I have been there myself. But its for the locals and the retired.
@THExxPALExxRIDER Or Canada where its very much like America without the macho posturing, or Australia the most awesome island in ever. Yeah its true there are plenty of places that are worse then us but we are not The Best. Maybe no country is. Sorry you seem to only see black and white, meanwhile in reality we understand that things aren't that easy.

It should be "from the crowd in the Dáil , to our own county hall" The Dáil (Pronounced: Dawl) is the Irish Parliament.

@JoyBastet I'm reading that book right now. I'm only on the second chapter, though. I bet it's a great book. :)

My Uncle suffered PTSD from Vietnam, he was a fly boy painting targets for N-plaming. :(
Hey, you guys having the argument... you realize that there is actually a music video on this page? You should watch it!
Dont try to be cute.
. . . im dig the song. but with a title like that i was not expecting this.
Wasn't really following the lyrics so much, but goddamn those rabbits make sense to me.

THExxPALExxRIDER is unbelievable man. thank god i have allies like you! You know what he is? He's ignorant. He just swallows what is force-fed him. He doesn't think!

@scrabs92 so true!
So really think that the average US soldier does that for fun and not because he was ordered to?
We stood by in Rawanda and watched the genocide while we could have effortlessly stopped in in a matter of hours. Instead, the soldiers received orders to just sit back and enjoy the show. @PhatxWarhouse look up what ptsd does/is. then you'll figure it out.

Still trying. 2 and a half years were too much
I don't feel sorry for mercenaries.
A soldier is not a killer........I,m a Person with feelings.
a good message... but i wouldnt say this is FM's best song!... :/
sometimes I feel 2 Asian "theaters" could've excused a third................oh nevermind!
You do realize the majority of the band is from the U.S., right?
