No matter what preference you might have for the original, you gotta admit it's nice to finally have an intro that didn't feel the need to put its own "spin" on things. They were like "we just need to update what's already there, otherwise don't touch it", and I appreciate the hell out of that in this landscape of remakes who all feel they can do it "better" than a much beloved original.
Rogue looks like complete garbage in this show.

I knew something was different!!
One other thing that's different that I don't hear anyone talking about is how the sound effects are muted in the new one vs the old one. You can clearly hear this in the side-by-side of the intro. I wish they would punch up those sound effects a little bit more. It adds a bit more excitement to the fight scenes.

I still find it funny how the new intro still features Professor X even though he is suppose to be dead (yes back in 90s he was just taken by the Shi'ar to heal. What I love about the new series the intro really does reflect the quality of the animation you’re going to see on the actual show unlike the old one that looks incredible but is not reflected on the actual product.

The new animation style is utterly hideous. It's basically glorified flash animation and not at all up to the standards I have come to expect for an X-Men show.

I now realize why the series feels like there's less in the intro...
The shading in the original intro is three-tone shading that pops and gives a proper gleam, while the '97 series has only two tone shading, which, after seeing the original, just looks like something is missing as a whole.
The lack of three-tone shading really makes even the best scenes that '97 can pull off feel significantly more flat.
The new theme needs the bell.

The old intro had smart transitions.
Cyclops in his civil uniform in broad daylight, then Wolverine picks it up and puts on his costume, then everyone else is in their costumes, then daylight turns "stormy", then it's starry night and finally Jean and Xavier are floating. And the sounds were better, they kinda underlines the visuals. You see that moment with Rogue crushing a sentinel? We had this big industrial BOOM when sentinel crashed into the ground, and it also was a transition between the scenes. Wolverine's SNIKT sounds were also a transition. Damn, that old opening was smart.

I’m really glad they included Morph and Bishop to be part of the intro. I’m guessing Magneto is still not considered part of the X-Men in the series hence no intro but still seen in the end with the antagonist marching towards the X-Men. I also noticed the White Queen (Emma Frost) marching towards the X-Men with Magneto. I know she appeared in the comic con panel of villains for the series. I wonder how the Hellfire Club with play a role in this series since Mr. Sinister is the main villain.

i don't think it's smoother, it's less stable. Them running at one another looks smoother but it's just more fuzzy. The new one is cleaner and you can properly see everything.

Im sorry. The original ones animation looks so much better.
The original animation was amazing, but if you can see past it you will actually love it the story is what really draws you in and some scenes are amazing. This is season 1 perhaps even like the original animated series they'll have different adjustments. Give it a go ! I saw it after being really bias from the hate and I turned to like it a lot. I have changed my mind so far I am giving it a go and think it's amazing.

Gotta love the comparison between the two, I was really amazed on x men 97 intro, that's how you do a continuation/revival, bring back most of the original voices, I say that's the most smartest move on their end for sure!

I saw after so many years. The original x men cartoon the whole season. Maybe few episodes. I did not really watch that much It was not that serious episodes But I finally done Watching the whole The whole show and I could say the new one on Disney. It's Crap They made it a little bit feel like it's home But the whole graphics It's not the original from the x men Show The original was running good and stays. You also have to take into account that the old intro was done on cel animated sheets. While the new one is done in digital. Thats why the shadows and feel is different.
I have ONE gripe and it makes the entire new trailer infinitely worse. Them muffling the sound of the ICONIC bell during the theme song is damn near criminal.
NICE! Greatest intro to any cartoon ever made! But the original one is better by far.
When I tell you I watched both intros with my Gf, childishly humming and drumming both themes (this was my childhood 😂) even watched the old Spider-Man theme too just for bonus nostalgia lol

Although i love both; The timing, sound cues, and transitions between characters in the original are better. Clearly alot of thought was put into those details. That and the bell sound midway and in the end of the intro is more pronounced.
This was EXACTLY how I felt. I always loved how tight the timing was on the transitions of the original - that thunderclap by Storm, the sound of Storm flying into the screen, the Sentinel smash by Rogue, etc. - all those things were timed cleanly to the music.
As a person with a musical background and as someone who has (diagnosed) OCD impacted by rhythmic timing, I loved that about the original intro.
AND I MISS THAT BELL! I always waited for it to ding lol. Thought I was the only one.
New intro is dope though. Old one is just tighter and cleaner.
@@thaknightowl5207I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed those details. For example when that first ominous bell hits midway in the original version and it transitions to Jean.. That was very intentional when you consider what that character goes through. As I said before; Clearly so much thought was put into timing, sound, and who should appear in which order. It's just too good.

90s X-Men series was know for it´s great writing, but TERRIBLE animation... Even compared to other 90s series, like Spider-Man or Batman. It was ridiculed, because of this.

@@gabrielp9646 You're not wrong. From what I read, S01-S04 for 90's X-Men, the budget was smaller than other Animated shows.. so they had to cut corners. Compared to X-Men '97, the budget is way bigger. They had to skip a lot of scenes for quicker action back then. Even 90's X-Men in S05... the budget got smaller and they changed Animation studio to Saban for crap.
It feels good to have the xmen back. Stronger and faster than ever. Good job marvel.

I think because the new changed the sound effects, it kind of takes away something. Specially the electric sound on the logo at the end, I have the old sound burned into my mind.

I am happy they did it like this. They could have done something totally different but this makes you feel like you are watching the same show but just with a slight update (the way Batman adventures did to a degree when they chance the art).
I love how 50% of the hype for the premier was wondering how'd they handle the legendary intro.

It's kind of ironic that with 3d animation it it looks very basic, flat, and off compared to 2d animation. They did a good job with what they had to work with, but it is very limiting.

It’s great to see the intro still stands the test of time, and the new one does little to change it, modify the framework adding Morph in (which feels very overdue!)
I think the new one is a worthy follow up to the original intro.
Amazing how much more detailed the original is and more dynamic. I really appreciate 97 for the faithful representation of the original but it does look blocky/clipart at times
the original shows more depth in Wolverine's muscles, you can see his legs are 3D but more 2D flat in the new intro. It looks like the new art style is more "cartoony" compared to the more "drawn" style of the original. I like the OG. Oh course I did watch and love the OG when it came out I was in my teens, 96' I was 16

They got something right for once.
Something is going on in modern 2d animation studios. The only recent production that looks dynamic is Legend of Vox Machina, and that doesn't count when Titmouse is famous for being top of the line.
The animations looks very cheap, spoofy and boondocks-ish. I can't get past it. How it it the looked better in the 90's.
apparently it was done in 3d then they used a rendering technique to make it look 2d, no I do not have a source, this is just what I've heard

I never watched this X-Men, I have however watch Evolution one which I thought it was the prequel to this series with the last episode and Evolution was pretty damn good.
Evolution in my opinion should have been the continuation. They had made the show fresh for 4 seasons with lightly pulling some comic book references. They introduced so many mutants with the potential for different storylines. By the end of the show they could of gone into Hellfire/Phoenix Sage like hinted, Done days of future past with Kitty, No more Mutants with Wanda, Genosha Genocide, Bishop time traveling, The New mutants becoming their own team with Magneto leading them, X-Force, X-factor, Hope Summers, Sinister and lead into Krakoa age etc. So much content. X-men could run aslong as the Simpsons with the right writers.
Evolution is it's own continuity,
It’s not a prequel. It’s a different interpretation of the X-Men. I loved both versions.

You're definitely smoking some serious nostalgia blunts. The "original" has some of the cheapest animation of the 90s. And I grew up at that time so don't think I wasn't there when this was originally out. Plus the writing was awful. The original X-Men storylines from the comics were pretty mature and the cartoon heavily dumbed them down, as they did with almost all cartoons based on Marvel comics, to make it suitable for children. This new Disney+ sequel series is a big improvement in the animation department. That's just an objective fact. The only things that the 90s X-Men show had that was great was the voice cast and theme song. The best animation for X-Men from that time was the Pryde of the X-Men pilot and the Japanese opening animations for the 90s X-Men show. Far superior animation in every way. It wouldn't be until the X-Men anime series that we would get high quality animation for X-Men again.

The animation reminds me of the lower quality last season of X-Men. It looks like a cartoon. The first seasons looked like a comic book. Can't say I'm a fan of the new animation.

I started watching the OG so I can watch the newest series. I used to watch it growing up in the early 2000’s it was good
It's nice to have a side-by-side comparison so people can finally pull their heads out of their asses and see that the new animation is not even close to the original. It looks like the characters are drawn based on someone's memory of them, rather than the actual original artwork. The line thickness, detail lines, color highlights, face designs, body proportions, etc. are all different.
No matter personal preferences, OG is much better

90's Hand drawn animation > 2020's computer animation.
Of course modern animation is much faster and cheaper, so here we are.
As long as the story is there, I think we'll overlook a lot of the simplified style change.
I think the original was animated by a Japanese studio? Cause the timing feels very different.. also, the thinner lines look much better.

Yeah, it was a Japanese company who did the animations until the last two seasons of the series. This new cartoon is off with the animation. It doesn’t look good.
both old and new were animated by korean studios. Japanese did their own intros and endings for airing exclusively in japan, with an art style more faithful to the comic and original songs
