Missed the 14-30mm f4 S. Along with the 24-120mm f4 S, you have the perfect all-rounder day trip kit.

The 40mm f2 is my favourite lens I've owned out of all the nikon lenses I've owned although I've never owned any particularly expensive lenses. It's so compact and renders beautifully. I love the focal length as well for a walk about lens.

Nice summary, always appreciate the opinion of someone who's used such a wide variety of gear. Any plans to get your hands on the Tamron 35-150 f/2-2.8? Would be curious to see how you would compare that to the 24-70 2.8 and 24-120 f/4

This is just perfect. No disagreement here. You should throw in the Macros as well and the ultra wide angles. Lastly, the z 1.4 tc needs special mention. It's just too good, compared to last generation. Well done!!

Just moved up to mirrorless Z8 with FTZ2 adaptor that I will use with my wide range of f/2.8 F-mount lenses and intend to add later on the 135mm Plena and the 600mm fixed tele lens down the road. So far for the Z8 I just bought the 24-120 f/4 which is very handy and sharp for various situations. I really enjoyed your in dept review of these lenses a lot and became a subscriber to your channel.

Excellent video FramesTM! Thank you. Believe it or not, the only Z lens I have is the 40mm. It works fine for now. I'll come back to this video though when I'm ready to make another purchase. I will start with the 28mm for street photography. For now, the TTArtisan 50mm, which I also have, plus my f-mount and older SLR pre AI lenses are keeping me happy!

Great video, and loving the category names. Fortunate to have the Z8 with two top pro including what is kind of ridiculous to think of as a ‘kit’ lens because it came with the camera (24-70 f2.8S, a good package deal with the body, but honestly also the allure of ‘S’), and a wish list that includes one God (50 f1.2).

I’m really confused. Like, if I’m on FX, the 12-28 is not a must-have lens. Also not sure why special case matters regarding quality. I mean, the Noct is probably is probably a special case lens for many. But yeah it should be way higher than that tier.

Thank you very much for your review here. I have the Z 50mm 1.8 S, 24-120mm, 100-400 and 14-30mm f4. I would like to know how the 70-200 f2.8 FL ED would rank as well. I really love it on the D810 or DX camera's too but have the adapter for my Z7 ii as well. And what you think of the 500mm 5.6 pf f mount how that would rank

With the Nikon dx lenses, do I need an adapter to use on a Nikon zf or will it just mount directly. Also will the depth of field change as the focal length will?

    • @FramesTM
      @FramesTM  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hey,are reply here: you don’t need an adapter! Both use the same mount! Also, you won’t see a change in depth of field if you use a crop lens on a FF body.

Hi Frames - nice run down of these lenses!
Factually, there is another 105 1.4 lens besides the Nikon. Sigma makes one for Sony E, Nikon F, and Canon EF. It is very big and heavy. It has a huge filter size of 95mm or 105mm (I can't remember - but it is bigger than 82mm) making filters very expensive. This lens is slightly sharper than the Nikon equivalent, but again much bigger and heavier and also it is much more clinical - lacking any real character. By contrast, the Nikon is slightly less sharp - but as you point out, still very sharp, yet it maintains an excellent character for portraiture rendering skin in a very pleasing way. In short, it is a much better lens than the Sigma, but I thought I would mention this because you stated that this focal length and F stop only exists on the Nikon F mount and technically that is not the case.
    Very interesting video.

In the old days, 70s and 80d, 50 mm 1.4 is standard lens. It come with the camera. 35 and 28mm were called wide angle lens, but 28mm had lots of distortion. Zoom lenes in 80s still not good. Untill 90s zoom lenses became good for general purpose lenses. When digital cameras came, my most use lenses are zoom. Good for professional jobs. Prime lenses are only for portrait and street photography. I like zoom lenses.😊

    My EDC is the Z8 with the Z 24-120 F4 S, 50mm 1.8 S, and Z 17-28 2.8. Hands down, the best travel / daily kit.
    For weddings, I carry the Z8 (with MB-N12 grip) and a Z9. Lenses: 24-70 2.8 S, 70-200 2.8 S, Z 50mm 1.2 S, Z 20mm 1.8 S, Z MC 105 2.8 S, and the Z 85mm 1.8 S.
I'm probably selling my 35m 1.8 S. I never ever use it. Also selling the 12-28 and 40mm F2. The 40 in particular is a sad effort compared to the 50mm 1.8 S.

The Nikon Z 50 1.8 is without a doubt the finest value for money in the Z system, since it is Nikon's best 50mm 1.8 lens ever made. The Tamron 35mm lens outperforms Nikon and Canon lenses in the 35mm focal range due to the use of exclusive Bronica optical coatings found only in some higher-end Tamron lenses. However, most camera companies would never provide such details about their optical secret sauce.

Well you are making a difficult exercise here, and first thanks for that. Nevertheless I find some issues there. 1/ As amators we are not only interested in having the best individual lenses but rather a good combination of lenses for covering different usages. This is missing in your classification. 2/ The 14-30 is missing I don’t know why and for me it’s far more versatile than the 17-28 from Tamron. 3/ you are putting the 24-70 and the 24-105 on the same level… and everybody who used them two find the 24-105 as sharp but far more versatile than the 24-70. 4/ finally the 28mm and 40mm SE are not too bad lenses but due to there plasticky feeling (and mount … Nikon you did the AI line how can build such a piece of shit with plastic ring) and without an aperture ring like some brand do for half the price (ttartisant, viltrox…) which could have been perfect for the Zf are for me a deception and don t deserve as other s prime the classification of mustnhave. These are of course only my thoughts and can be challenegd too :). Have a nice day.
