Two Adventists can be unequally yoked when they don’t share the same values. I was raised not to drink and I made this choice as an adult. I meet many Adventist men who drink. I am saving myself for marriage. I have faced the hardest opposition on my boundaries from Adventist men. I choose to attend church regularly and participate to keep myself spiritually strengthened. I have met many Adventist men who have to be dragged to church. Forget them participating. I choose to keep the Sabbath holy by focusing on God, family and rest. I meet many Adventist men who club, work and ride the edges of the Sabbath. I choose to return a faithful tithe and offering. I have dated men who made it a point to not return tithe and offering. If they do “tithe”, they pick and choose where they send it; the local church, a charity, etc. As a PK who dated another PK who did this, I asked him why would he choose to do this when that is how his family was supported when he was a child. He was unconvinced. Adventist men have greater success in dating non-Adventist women because their partners are often happy to convert and let a godly man lead. Unfortunately, Adventist women do not have that same success and are relegated to partnering with unfit Adventist men or remain single. When they do meet wonderful Christian men, it’s hard to bring them to church because they are shamed for dating “outside” or they are fearful their partners will adopt bad habits or be turned off by the lack of good examples. This is a huge problem.
