My 2018 JK always climbs up in temperature, same exact issue you described and only when going up hills, usually right under the 3/4 mark. Took it in to the dealership and I was told that was normal, I've plugged the scanner in when the gauge goes up and I've read up to 240. Made an appointment for this weekend to have it checked again because I'm noticing coolant smells now.
That’s great info and interesting the dealer said it’s normal. I replaced my engine oil filter housing a while back because it was cracked and leaking coolant (coolant runs through the housing on JKs - kinda weird design) so hopefully that’s not what your coolant smell is but worth checking. @@4XTRAIL I was thinking about that as it’s a major fail point on the pentastars. Luckily I’m still under warranty. I’ll make sure to give an update on what the dealership finds.

What time of year was this? Headed up there the end of June, first of July.
This was the first week of September 2020. This is the last of the series from that trip that I finally got around to editing! I hear July is beautiful out there as well and most trails should be open by then.
Honestly, jeeps are not reliable enough to take him on these kind of adventures. Mine is a complete piece of shit

I love it! The best places I’ve found/heard of around us are: Moonlight Racing in Sullivan and Pruitt Mountain in Caledonia. 👊🏼

Great video, awesome scenery 👌 Curious to know what the overheating issue was all about. When my thermostat broke my engine was running cooler than it should have been.
It happened again the following day and I kept the engine running to see how high the needle would go - it only went slightly past halfway (not quite to 3/4) and then cycled back down to the middle. Hasn’t really happened since but I’m guessing it was just getting a little hot since it was high altitude and warm out and not actually overheating? I’m not sure. I’ve put another 7k on the Jeep since then with no issues. Did you experience anything like that before replacing your thermostat or only running cooler? I was probably just playing it safe and didn’t actually have an issue - hard to say! Glad you enjoyed the video!
The same thing happened to me when I was out last summer exploring time forestry roads. Upon some research I found that it was pretty common the engines to run a little hotter. Glad to hear it was nothing serious. Looked like an epic trip!

Moonrise over the mountains is so amazing. Saw it for the first time last year out in Montrose.
All these trails are just unbelievable! We long to go back every year. Imogene is currently our favorite, but we haven't done the 1 way of black bear or Poughkeepsie yet. However this year we most definitely are!
Not long ago we just about pulled the trigger on some land off one of the trails but logic won that battle😆

@@4XTRAIL not as far fetched as one would think. Since the land is not accessible for half the year, and it's 100% raw land, the price is quite reasonable for what it is.
