I've actually done in once in the dark a long time ago. It's not pleasant, I fell to the ground QUICK and I can assure you it doesn't feel good. Luckily, I didn't tear anything on the underquilt.
After I shoot videos I always think of things that I forgot to mention lol. Probably because I don’t have a script, I just wing it on the fly because it feels more natural to record that way. That’s a great point though! I’ve personally never taken the bug net off so it isn’t something that occurred to me.
If you plan on camping deep into winter, probably not. I have found the 20F quilts take me down to right around 20F comfort. That’s usually with a base layer and a light mid layer on. I’m also a very hot sleeper. If you wanted to hang in the coldest parts of winter I’d recommend a 0F for that and/or put down a thin pad in the hammock.
I’ve used the Warbonnet XLC for years with minimal problems; my only complaint is that they should add pack hooks so that the UQ stays in place. I have a HG UQ and I’ve rigged up a system with shockcord and carabiners to keep it in place. That said, the Warbonnet is better than my old ENO
I kinda want an underquilt that has baffles up and over the sides of the hammock to completely block wind so I can lay in whatever position is comfortable. Any suggestions?
I’ve never had an issue with asymmetrical UQ’s like the Wooki. Sometimes I side sleep with it. A UQ protector would do the same job at less weight as far as blocking wind. I’ve only used mine once but at 4.5 oz it’s likely lighter than a “taco” UQ and a lot less money too.
I ask santa for the original blackbird single layer this year for Christmas. Im not super heavy ( 170 pounds @ 5-10 height ) so keeping the pack weight down is a goal. I hear its very very comfortable. Also i hear the wooki uq is super warm. Nice looking top quilt, never seen that b4!
@@Bacon_N_Backpacking Was that a single layer original blackbird in the video? Ya the quilts I hear are the best money can buy. In the smoky mountains its hot at night and very humid. But in fall its ice cold. Would want those quilts! A sleeping pad is something I avoid in a hammok, i never could dial one in correctly. Even in a double layer.
Yeah it’s a single layer. WB quilts are a little heavier than some other companies but IMO they’re also 100% true to their rating. I slept in my 40F down to 35F in just underwear and a tshirt and never got cold. Great quilts.
Yeah they’re pricey, but they’re great quilts. They usually run 10-15% sales around holidays. Alternatively, Hammock Gear makes good quilts for less. I don’t think they’re quite as good as Warbonnet but probably the best deal for the price.
Love my Blackbird! Great tip for new hammockers about being careful not to sit on the UQ! I've never done it but I could see it happening easily.

Got mine 5 yrs ago and never looked back! Plenty of use with NO failures yet.
Mine only has about two years on it, but somewhere around 30-35 hangs and it’s still looking good. Thanks for tuning in!
Just got my setup from warbonnet for some winter motorcycle camping trips. Pretty excited to learn the setup and hopefully love the gear.
Been using mine for almost four years, still going strong. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!
Great evaluation! I'm a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC owner and the WBBB is the best hammock system I've come across. Stay Strong and Hammock On!
I probably have 50-60 nights in it at this point, still love it. Thanks for watching!
Very nice video with a lot of great info you keep your communication done very well keep up the good work and enjoy your time outdoors.
Thanks
Great video as always travis.
Thank ya sir
Nice video. I LOVE my blackbird xlc. But what you might want to mention with the gear shelf.... is.. if you take off the bug net, you loose the shelf.

I live in south west Ohio. Do you think one of their 20 degree under quilt would be warm enough for this area?

I’m a pretty big fan. Love all their products so far.
The wookie underquilt was made for that hammock. You wouldn't have those issues with it.
I have this issue too at times. Kind of wish I'd gone with the Wookie. But I've figured out a couple things that make it work.
What's the name of the color for the underquilt and hammock?
OD Green

It’s an awesome hammock, you won’t be disappointed. Warbonnet makes great quilts too!

I heard beer shelf…I’m sticking with that.
lol, close enough!
Id like to see a video how to easily pack it back together
Throw quilts in pack, put hammock in stuff sack and throw in pack lol
I've got a custom diamondback in my cart... Waiting for any type of promo/sale... I cannot physically pay full price lol
