    I live in the US and went by myself in 2017 when Scottie set the lap record. I started my trip in Sydney with a ticket for the grandstands at Murrays in anticipation of the finish. I met some Kiwis at a pub Wednesday evening, exchanged pleasantries yada yada'd to: what are you doing in Australia? "I'm here for the 1000." "No shit so are we! How are you getting there?" "I was going to take the train in the morning." "No you're not mate, you're hopping in the camper van with us." I stayed up until like 3am with them at the casino, met back up at their hotel at 7am sleep deprived and hungover, and the rest is history. I didn't spend a minute of the weekend in my ticketed seat, and instead stayed on top of the mountain with four complete strangers all weekend yards away from the track at McPhillamy/Brock's Skyline totally absorbed in the 1000 culture - even walked the entire circuit and signed Brock's wall. I made some lifelong friends and I cannot WAIT to return.
    Americans you HAVE to make the pilgrimage to this one. It's the best race weekend I've ever had, and the party on top of the mountain is legendary.

    One of the most memorable moments for me was the crash in practice in 2014 where Luffy's brakes failed and he tagged Lowndes before hitting the fence and rolling. Then Lowndes frantically gets out of his car sprints to Luff's car and helps the marshal get the door open. Then when he sees Luff is alright they just hug it out.

And honestly, the 2014 1000 is a contender for me as the greatest motor race of all time. 2014- chaz mostert going from last to winning the race and crashing twice all in one race. He passed Jamie Whincup at Forrests elbow on the last lap.

    • @McPlayer8t
      @McPlayer8t 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think Whincup’s drive was even better that day, he got to the lead after starting 3rd last, went almost two laps down at one point then just drove the wheels iff to get back to the lead. He is the only driver I’ve ever seen that can dig himself out of that situation. Also, Mostert only crashed once, and it was Morris at the wheel, likely due to a brake change or the deteriorating track. It was Moffat/Douglas who crashed twice to finish second. Please tell me if any of that was wrong, I may be getting years mixed up.

    • @ash6248
      @ash6248 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nah mostert did crash it twice in the day and was last i believe on the grid. Mosterts strategy initially was just to get to the end but with i think 4 to go he was back on the lead lap and was in the best fuel position of everyone at rhe front. It was a bit of luck but he drove the damn wheels off that car all day

And if that isn't crazy enough, there's a 12 hour race where you have GT3 cars with around the same amount of horsepower and despite having the benefit of more downforce and abit more tires, they can be even wider (have you seen the spaceship that is that Mclaren 720S?) and they have to do this while navigating around far slower cars. Basically, racing about bathurst in general is batshit..and I kinda don't want it any other way honestly.

      It was part of his job to be in the public eye, that’s how he could earn money through sponsorships and advertisements, that’s how Rugby as a sport grows its profile etc.
      A high profile comes with some advantages like that. It also comes with expectations, sponsors pay you to improve their brand image. You need to no.1 be visible and no.2 not do damage to the brand.
      That is precisely why Rigby Australia put directly into his contract that he must shut up about gay people on social media. Has nothing to do with Rugby Australia or any of their sponsors virtue signalling, it’s because of market forces.
      So if Folau want to make money playing Rugby, where all the money comes from advertisers and sponsorships, if he want to make money himself by being personally sponsored, that means he needs to be less offensive.
      That isn’t political correctness gone too far it’s how advertising works. Either shut up about bloody homosexuals having demons and burning in hell, or at the very least, hire a better lawyer who can negotiate a more lenient contract for you.
      He is still allowed to say what he wants, he can still practice his religion. But don’t expect other people to pay for him to say that stuff. Especially when he signed a contract saying he wouldn’t.
