- This video is Part 2 of my showcase of the awesome modded trinket "Birthcake" for The Binding of Isaac Repentance. It was created by Føxy and damagaz based on a concept posted on the Isaac Reddit and has different effects for every character in the game, just like the Birthright item! This is Part 2 of the 2-part series which will explain the effects for the 17 tainted characters!

Sry for the delay between the 2 parts, had a few busy days irl 😵Anyway, I really like the concept and I hope the mod will stick around so that the big character mods could think about adding their own Birthcake effects to their mods as well! But tbh, I feel like it would need a bit of a balance patch at some point. Some cakes are just waaaay too strong in comparison (Azazel, T-Lilith for example). Just a bit of fine-tuning to those and it is a perfect mod to add as a gernal piece to your list!
Samael is compatible with this mod now. Not sure what the effects are, though
its fine sleigh, gud vid, hope more modded chars get some effects too

meanwhile tainted lost: has a chance to explode when entering an item room

shouldve been a 25% to explode cause risking mantle for one item 50/50 seems kind of bad

Tainted Isaac's cake effect is probably my favorite, but Tainted Jacob runs a close second.
T Jacob is straight up broken. Dark Esau melts late game bosses and his biggest threat is inside an uncleared room. In a cleared room it is super easy to avoid Esau, so the whole character is broken. Good that char is boring for me anyway 🤣
Hey, a disease being "contagious" means that is spreads very effectively, not that is is poisonous.
Tainted Azazel's brimstone curse is contagious by default, as when an enemy is killed by a brimstone enemy it explodes and spreads
I guess it could be meant as in like Tainted Azazel being the sick one himself and spreading his disease to enemies with his sneeze, but yeah i get your point, the effect name could be changed.

Didn't Dark Esau technically already get it in the first place...? Tainted Jacob only benefits from the birthright if you know how to evade and weaponize two Esaus.

The body getting a fly would increase its hitbox so it would be better at blocking projectiles
I think that there might be a glitch preventing it from working right. I think the intention is that when the soul holds the body then all three orbit the soul
Tainted Samson’s cake said it’d give an unending rampage and it looks like it delivered.
For me my favorite effect is definitly Tainted Lilith, i just like those familliars.
As for my favorite one to code, it was between Forgor and Tainted Magdalene
If you think about it, the cake doesn’t get destroyed, the character accidentally eats it unless the cake it meant to be eaten, like normal Lilith

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought about this. But T.Jacob's birthcake effect could be used on purpose at final bosses. Delirium, Mega satan, Mother, Hush, Dogma+Beast

Seriously, Dark Esau will fuck you over in the Beast Run, the moment he is in that kind of position, you're going to get hit by the Beast or get in a spot where you can't avoid Esau.
This turns that issue into a non factor.
You make up with him in the end to take down the greater evil I guess

Straight up, this mod is so good that I thought it was an official update for the anniversary.
The T. Jacob is number one for me. This benefit really comes with risk, so you gotta use some strategies, like switching trinkets for every floor. (By this, I mean that you take the birthday cake with you after (hopefully) taking care of the boss with no hit from Esau, if possible.)
All in all, that way you can secure it to its fullest, and take it as a real emergency if trouble kicks in, let's say, getting hit by jacob in the lategame part.
Once again, this is a Top 3 No. 1 trinket for me personally. Having a lethal weapon on your side for a floor? Give me that, thank you!
from a thematic standpoint it's absolutely brilliant. jacob stealing esau's birthright, causing him to starve only to feed his brother's ghost from super hell a cupcake, and the resulting act of selflessness causes dark esau to stop actively seeking out revenge just for a *little bit* is hilariously fitting imo
Tainted Jacob's cake is so God damn cute and is such a cool idea. they could have just left it at a free hit, but having them work together is such a cool and fitting mechanic, it's crazy how much modders can do.

This is one of those trinkets that just feels like it would be in the base game lol, and I could see it as being a special Jacob and Esau unlock or something maybe
I remember suggesting some ideas for this in the original reddit thread but with a slightly different focus.
Since it's a "birthday present", I imagined the trinket to revolve around the idea of surprise.
So, for T. Cain for example, my idea was that killing the floor's boss would yield an assortment of pickups and chests (like a piñata), for T. Lost it would increase the chance for getting a quality 4 item in the floor (only once per floor), for T. Samson, upon clearing a room, a "piñata" would spawn which, if hit in berserk mode, it would drop a random heart (half hearts are more likely) or a coin, and it would extend his berserk mode, etc. The general idea was for the effects to happen like a surprising, birthday event.
Also, very important, but each time one of these events proc'd, a party horn sound effect would play.
The party horn would come soon, for some character, i just need to find a gound SFX and to decide where to put these :D
As for the T. Samson pinata, sadly am not much of a 2D artist (or artist at all) so i couldn't implement the pinata
@@xeaphones9222 Don't worry, I get it. Of course including some of the ideas in my original post (or the few selected here) would include a lot of work beyond just making code changes. It was just how I was thinking about the concept of the birthday cake itself.
But yeah, overall, it would be fun to hear the party horn sfx whenever T. Samson would extend his berserk mode, or whenever T. Lost would spawn 2 pedestals (even if it broke his mantle), or when T. Jacob gets hit by dark Esau x)

for Tainted Lost's Birthday cake, can the explosion kill you if you don't have a mantle? otherwise this one is too risky for it's own good

T. Lost's birthcake really feels underwhelming and useless. There is very little reason to exchange 10 luck for a trinket that has a chance to remove your holy mantle, which is far more crucial than getting an extra item
Other ones are cool and creative tho!
I feel like an extra hit isn't all too useful in a room that's gonna be cleared from the explosion, especially when the upside is a more permanent one compared to the downside, which you can negate by not using your Holy Card until the Treasure Room, or just getting another one, since they are fairly common with T. Lost.

A lot of these seem pretty OP, while TLost is definitely not worth it considering how hard it is just to get a mantle in the first place
Tainted Jacob's is so cool, the truce idea is very clever, it feels unreal to see the two working together tho, will take some getting used to lol

7:00 in theory depending on map layout, Tainted Lilith *could* force a specific familiar for any given room. An example of such map layout is a 1x2 room adjacent to 2 1x1 rooms that are also adjacent to themselves.
such trick is called "triangulation".
however, that will require tons of backtracking and isn't really worth the effort most of the time anyway
Ooohh true! Yeah I totally forgot about big rooms for the scenario (probably because I didn't have one on the showcase floor ^^'), good call!
It would be worth if the boss room effect did not exist, but since in the boss room you have both familiars it ends up not being worth as both of them are amazing for general room clearing so it wouldn't make much of a difference

I think that the tainted forgor 💀 body has one fly for balance reasons, if you had 3 flies at all times it would be kind of busted (even more) to be able to block that many tears for essentially free, while having to carry the body (which means you're not attacking) makes it ever so slightly more balanced.
but why even give the body a fly at all???

If you are NOT holding the body you get 2 flies, which means you block less tears compared to having all 3 active the whole time (duh), if you want to have all 3 you have to hold on to the body (which means you are also doing zero damage while you hold on to it)
T-Jacob's cake effect is honestly the coolest here, imo-
hey, i contributed some ideas for the tainted characters! really awesome to see them realized in a mod haha
a couple of lil fun facts i forgot to mention initially, but my ideas for the birthcake ideas i contributed sorta stemmed from an item idea that i had for a while that would've acted like an alternative form of birthright that i never made or anything, where you choose between either the default birthright effect or one new effect, inspired by how the ultra mutations in nuclear throne worked. speaking of, tainted eve's birthright effect is a direct reference to the character rebel and her ultra mutation effect called riot!
i'm also happy to see that my suggestion for tainted forgotten's soul getting the eternal fly orbitals made it in despite the reddit post having a different listed effect - the bit with enemies targeting the body instead though definitely sounds way more powerful in hindsight 😅

Regular Forgotten and Tainted Jacob.
Like for my Delirium Kill and my Beast Run, I had an issue where I was doing goodish (For having to constantly move) and BAM. Esau hit me and I went into panic mode.
That also gets me caught in the Beasts suction attack and leaves me open for Esau's charge. (Cost me a run and it happened on my kill run.) If kept for the final boss of either run, it would turn Esau into a VERY helpful buddy.
I want this as a mod now, like the t jacob effect is amazing now you don't have to say "GREAT ROOM DESIGN." because esau will instead kill the enemies!

T Jacob cake should be red, similar to the red stew, the same stew that he gave to Esau in exchange of his Birthright.
Speaking of Birthright, if T Jacob has it will the 2 Dark Esaus become friendly or only the one who ate the cake?

I think T Lilith's effect needs a debaff or some sort of downside. She already a powerful character and her cake just makes her ridiculously strong.
On the other side, T Bethany effect is weak, this two spawned item wisps should be much more durable or unkillable imo

emm not really, it's only a single use trinkect and and it does not assure you get a good whisp from it, also if you compare it with other effects this is one of the lightest of them

OK, the effect of T.Jacob is kinda cute considering the Biblical story of the two brothers and the background of the Birthright item
Basically, Esau had to trade in his own birthright to his younger brother just to get something to eat, so his brother actually giving him a cake that serves a similar purpose to the birthright seems oddly fitting
(It's also why T.Jacob's birthright quote is "It's not yours" and buffs his brother instead)

I think something cool for tainted jacob is that instead of just being a free hit then the positive. If holding the cupcake made esau super aggressive, attacking faster and more often (him trying to "eat" the cupcake) and then if you get hit (no free hit) you get the buff shown in the video. I think it'd be cool since it'd fall more in line with the birthright effect that's still a negative, but with uses

all of these trinkets are pretty creative and have it's usage... then there's tainted lost
This Is an example of a great idea being terrible in game, an overwhelming majority of birthcakes effects are insanely powerful and only come with the balance equivalent of a smack on the wrist
Fortunately there's a way to balance it called not installing the mod lol.
But yeah, they are completely busted, they should probably make them weaker or add more punishing downsides.
I feel like there should be option to make birthcake separate roll from trinkets so there's a bigger chance to get it in the run, but also change to get it multiple times. That would of course make the game easier, but some of us would enjoy it (for example me and my friends all have big to small skill issue). Of course it should be in mod menu from a mod (i forgor how it's called ) and it shouldn't be on by default but we would enjoy the option

I feel like tainted sam could go without the bonus berserk TIME for clearing a room, in base isaac it's really easy enough to keep the train going for a whole floor (speaking as a chronic tainted sam player) so you'll always be running that chance* anyway, ideally. Not to mention it's always been weird with roll-overs on its usual 5 second limit, since getting kills while having more than 5s actually _reduces_ it to the 5s mark.

T. Lost's birthcake is a bit lackluster imo, compare it to something like T. Lilith's birthcake, she gets either an incubus or a succubus while T. lost can lose his mantle just by entering a room with a pedestal.
T. Bethany's birthcake: AKA single use car battery.
Well, a bit better because of the item pool clause, but yeah I feel you on that one ^^' A nice change could be to have it be permanent but grant a (low) chance to spawn a second wisp with each use

The Jacob one was so wholesome. Even though Dark Esau wants revenge on Jacob, the truce makes Dark Esau fight alongside Jacob for the floor. I wish that Tainted Birthcake was useful for three floors of the run, then Dark Esau would go back to attacking Jacob. It would've been cool if the mod did that.
Also, the T. Samson birthcake was technically correct. The rampage didn't end until the end of Caves 2.
Tainted Lost is about the only one of the characters I'd consider a definite "no-go." having a 50% change to lose the Mantle when you enter an item room is just way too big a downside.
I love Tainted Apollyon's effect. He's already my all-time favorite character, and this just give him even more!

i believe the reason for tainted forgor's skeleton to have a singular orbital fly is most likely to serve as extra protection when you are carrying it!

I have an idea for a mod axy it's an axolotle where it has regen (placentia) skipping and breaking tears (flat stone + parasite) and a cute character model 2ith every water type floor your in grants +50 dmg because its a water animal so yea but you can get a Lil axy where it grants regen every 10 seconds and an hp up its actually pretty op but not only that if you get max red hp it grants a transformation and an item called heart Bank where if you get any more hp it gets sent to the heart bank but the transformation is called hearty it just grants a ×10 dmg multiplier and bone hearts only dissappear if all red hp is no longer in any of them
tainted apolyon when he gets locusts instead of trinkets (apolyon got trinkets)
Hey SlayXc2! Quick question, but if you use clicker, and have a gulped birthcake, does the birthcake retain its previous effects or does it switch the the current charater's effect?
I'm going to guess that the ruling would be the same as the original Birthright item.

Wow tainted losts effect is actually really bad, i think itd be balanced enough if the cake just had that chance of disappearing. Destroying your holy mantle on top makes it only a risk worth taking if you already lost it in the first place, but even then you get a free perfection trinket anyways which consistently pays out with better pickups and has an extremely powerful synergy with luck based items.

Tainted Lost's sounds terrible honestly the chance of just losing your mantle negates the usefulness of getting an extra pedestal
It's funny, most of these would make me enjoy playing each tainted character a little more... except T Eden 😅Never particularly been a fan of That Much randomness in a run, and I'm not skilled enough yet to consistently avoid damage with whatever T Eden's got going on, so *more* randomness? Hmm. Maybe not my cup of tea lol.
