    There's not many actors who can do a full on soliloquy, on horseback, in perfect RP, in their 20s/early 30s. R.E.G is a glorious imperial throwback and such a lovely man.

    "The worlds a shop and if it hasn't got a price tag it's not worth having".
    This is one of the greatest movie monologues of all time and Richard delivers it with such passion while still adding that element of comedy. The first time I watched this scene I laughed until there was tears rolling down my face and I've laughed every time since. Bruce Robinson is one of the greatest underrated writers of all time his stuff is not only hard hitting at times but also very funny, very genuine and he really puts his heart and soul into his stuff even when it's a none stop rant and you'll find very few writers are able to do the same.

    The music for this final scene is "Jupiter" from the orchestral suite "The Planets" by Gustav Holst, and the final words of his soliloquy, "I shall not cease until Jerusalem is builded here, on England's green and pleasant land" is roughly taken from the last 3 lines of the poem "Jerusalem" by William Blake.

      Late to the party, but you're missing an important piece of context: in the UK it was very famously used in the adverts for "Hovis" bread which pre-date the film.

    Though I already have the movie on DVD, I want someone to post the scene where Bagley and his wife argue about whether the consumer has real choice---
    Her: Perhaps they don't
    Him: Perhaps if they hanged Jesus Christ we'd all be kneeling in front of a fucking gibbet!
    It's a great line, and the cold fierceness, the wanton bitchiness of his delivery makes it the priceless moment in the movie, which has lots of other sample-worthy moments. The trailer, which is very badly done, does nothing to prepare you for how weirdly inspired the best half of is, or how much it bears repeating.

    I know some people in the Advertising agency business who talk like this. I'm one of them. I think the worst disaster would be if packaging disappeared. I do like the idea of putting vitamins in toilet paper. Wouldn't do you any good, of course, but it's a marketing concept idea, which would appeal to the neurotics.

    • @sheridanguy
      @sheridanguy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iainbagnall4825 Market research found people thought vera aloe was a greasey mess on their greasey mess. Negative result. Sprayed vitamins (they dry on contact with the TP) was better. Especially vit E and D. In this day and age where manufacturers are ploughing ahead, as it were, enboldened by new TV advertising liberties, NOCKies are next. They are sock-like items which teen boys will wear to bed to prevent nocturnal disturbances.

    An unintended consequence of capitalism is that we buffer to a fine polish, the ugliest faces of our nature. To the point of imminent self-delusion, and ultimate self-destruction.
    What a truly wonderful and insightful film, with a message that only a true anarchist can appreciate.
    Anarchy: it's not for anyone!
