    Love it! You did a beautiful job. It looked like it had no guts in the dumpster alley! I absolutely LOVE the creativity and rich color you gave it, my favorite 👍🏾
    So; third quarter of 2023 my mom passed away and when I went to remove all of her furniture from her home, I found my grandfathers sound Arama stereo in one of her rooms with a blanket on top of it in a corner, where she set all of her books and flowerpots on when I opened the stereo, I found all the 45 albums from the 50s 60s and I think there’s some albums from the 40s. I don’t know how far back they go, but they’re old I would love to refurbish the stereo. I just don’t know how can somebody tell me where I can take it who I can hire or if I can even do it myself I live in Nevada so if you know anybody, please, share. I will be so excited and promise to share the before and after videos ☺️

    Nice job on the cabinet. I would have restored the old components and used them just to try to keep it as original as possible, especially if it was the old vacuum tube electronics. You can add Bluetooth to the old electronics easily.

    Amazing cabinet restoration - you make it look so easy. Great idea to completely replace the working components, making the whole thing your own.

    You are a talented person sir! It takes the right tools and skill to do this kind of restoration, of which I have neither!

    I do resto's of old radio cabinets and thought I knew what I was doing, but wow, after seeing your work I realize I have a lot to learn! I personally love using spray toners. I find applying a very slight "toasted edge" greatly enhances the overall look and masks repairs on the edges where they often are.

    I'm doing a zenith right now, luckily the outside is very original and in good shape. Replacing speakers and adding a 7.1 Marantz amp.

    My mom has a stereo console that has been neglected for over a decade. I've been looking for a way to refurbish it and wasn't sure what to do with the turntable hardware and speakers. Never even occurred to me that they could be replaced entirely.

      I always thought if you removed the original items it would be worthless 🤷🏾‍♀️ but; it could be so old you can’t get around it.

    It looks like a wonderful project, and very similar to one I carried out.
    But I'm often puzzled why so many beautiful consoles have that empty space in the middle as in this one above. It's why I couldn't resist putting a tv in mine, filling in that central empty space beautifully.

    Ok so a couple thoughts here. You’re clearly a fine craftsman but you really didn’t restore it, you basically replaced everything. Maybe it would have been easier to start from scratch

    Pitch perfect MCM restore design!
    Too bad there appears to be particle board used in the original construction, but as a fun woodwork project on a free donor console and "free" scrap or leftover wood stock, nicely done.
    Many audio people like to restore and use the original turntable, radio, amp and speaekers for the vintage sound quality, but usually with higher quality Zenith, Motorola or mid 60s Maganavox units. Hope you didn't toss the original components in case a collector wants them or to restore to original

  • @gavinmiller2590
    @gavinmiller2590 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I don’t understand why you threw out the old components, they are definitely more stylish and fit the looks better.

  • @jatontherun
    @jatontherun 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    question.. When you upgraded, what components did you replace? The tuner for AM, FM and obviously the turntable? Did you completely remove the existing old units? What a bout the speakers? I have a Zenith 1960s stereo console that I am considering doing the same. What I was wondering does doing this upgrade effect the sound of the speakers? will they Stoll have that vacuum tube sound?

    If you want a great looking stereo console, look for Curtis Mathes from the mid 60's. The rest are plain ugly. CM was a cabinet maker before getting into stereo consoles, so it knows style and craftsmanship. I got one in the early 90's in perfect condition for $12. It has a tube amp and a cool tuner, a slide in drawer turntable (not like all the rest that requires opening the top.) The best thing is you won't have to do all this work and end up with a console that has been destroyed of its history. Mine still works great. Not as good as a modern stereo, but it's 1000 times more interesting.
