For that Totoro dub, I know exactly what you're talking about and I'm glad someone else also watched it! When my brother and I were kids we'd always scream certain lines, one of them being when Satsuki and Mei find the stairs. In that og dub they say "let those bunnies go away right now!" and we were SO MAD when we watched the new dub later in life and that line was changed to something completely different 😆. I learned recently that we’re about the same age and that makes me so happy! A lot of artists that I follow tend to be college or post grad age and it makes me a little dissociated sometimes. But literally your guys’ mentality, world experience, and even nostalgia is similar to mine and it’s SO relatable and makes me love your content even more. Also the Dino movie is called “we’re back” and it’s kinda super creepy a lot and idk what was happening LOL! Great podcast :3
I swear that they reused Rapunzel’s facial expressions for Raya, in Raya and the last Dragon. It keep freaking me out when I watched it. My fav. Disney film is Lilo and Stitch, because it’s awesome, and also it came out the same day I got married so that’s kinda cool.

Somehow you guys can make me laugh, everytime, right out the gate, and no one else does that for me. Gotta say, I don’t get the Disney obsession, but then again I really love Ghibli! So maybe it really is a taste thing. Haha when it comes to collections, I’m really a magpie- I collect vintage frog and mushroom themed kitchenware 🍄🐸🌱 and I collect art supplies if that counts! And books- I recently got the whole Nausicaa manga and I just keep looking over at it. Also, since James asked “do you think they’re real?” about dinosaurs, I have to share this. I knew a girl in hs who believed that dinosaur bones were created by Satan and hidden in the ground to trick modern scientists into believing that the earth is over 5,000 year old. For real.
In OKC there’s a really neat climbing gym made out of old grain silos! “Summit Climbing” (People say Oklahoma is a boring state, but there’s some pretty cool gems here too 😌)
I visited my sister in an Ohio small town for a month. I took a zillion photos and wrote a poem about Ohio. I’ve been told by a few people that it captured part of it. We did visit Columbus for a day and saw an amazing art installation. Next time I visit her maybe I can talk her into a Cincinnati visit. Ooo, I love Mark Twain. Have you read about his petrified man joke? Lol.

Theyd took me and my brother to watch it in the cinema (we were ~10 and 8), because they thought dinosaurs are fun for kids. They ended up covering my brother with a coat so he does not watch the gore. So he could only listen to the screaming. We could not leave, because that would be embarassing in the middle of the movie.

Where you guys live is a really cool and scenic part of Cincinnati. I'M used to the boring part of Ohio, I live in a cornfield. no joke. There is corn on every side of the house haha. But I love southern Ohio along the river-- it's so beautiful. And there's more cows where it's hilly. I love the nature walks and historical buildings along the Ohio river. I'd love to visit that cool cemetery near you guys in the fall and the rock climbing gyms! I almost never watch Ghibli in English. I want the full Ghibli feeling when I watch them🤗 I watched the original 80s English dub of Totoro, it was wild different😮 Favorite Dinosaur is Styracosaurus-- so so cute.

Comparative to the 'Nati, I'd argue that Columbus is more progressive than Cincinnati. I've lived in Columbus for 20 years. When I think of what I liked about Cincinnati, I'm actually thinking of Covington or Lexington.
As someone who also lives in Ohio and have been here my whole life ( I know my comment is SO late, I’m catching up), I HATE it. I’m on the WV border, not far from Pittsburgh too, and it’s literally nothing but cornfields here. Hoping to move to Cincinnati soon myself. There’s nothing happening here and the people haven’t changed since the beginning of time I swear. My section of Ohio is everything negative people feel towards the state.

I looove Disney films - the art and the storytelling. But I’ve never liked the Disney aesthetic much outside of the films. I feel like it’s so different. I feel the same about most fandoms though - I feel like the merch never looks like it actually belongs in the films.

Apparently I have always had these high standards lmao (fussy af). But yeah my fave art in the disney films is all the scenery - particularly in the older films like Bambi - but I feel like the Disney aesthetic outside the films is v much focused on the characters and cartoony/cutesy. Which has its own charm - especially for kids, - but it’s not what makes the films for me.
I think ghibli just partners with Disney in the US. I am the weird chicken kitchen lady but I only have like 2 or 3 chickens soooo idk maybe its ok lol. I also collect oddities and bones. I have raccoon paws, bugs, antlers, and lots of bones from various animals. I have more bones than I know what to do with atm so ideally ill be making shadow boxes in the future. Im from California i live in oregon now and I was living in rural Pennsylvania in the bottom left corner basically in West Virginia or the "western pensyl-tuccy" area lol after a really bad relationship to escape and feel safe. I went with essentially strangers across the country in an rv after burning man to go live with them for almost 6 months to maybe a year. While I was there we went to a music festival in Ohio called fennario. Super big with greatful dead fans I just went to go, but I met some really cool people from Ohio while I was there and I ended up becoming good friends with them Roy would drive 4 hours there and back to pick me up from Pennsylvania just to hang out. Id stay a few days at a time. His family and everyone I met in Ohio were really warm and welcoming and made me feel at home. They lived in huber heights, and while Ohio as a state is boring I think the people who live there make up for that in 10fold with their personal connections to each other and making things around them to do. I very briefly visited what I think was the outskirts of cinnci I didn't get to see much of it but I want to go back to Ohio I genuinely miss it. Idk if you guys know about jungle Jim's I think thats what its called It was on the way to cinnci, its a big multi cultural food mall with like 1200 different hot sauces. Yall should go. Anyway the point being I miss Ohio and I think there's something to be said about the people who live there. I think there's alot of good people out there. Maybe I just had a really good experience.

As someone who also lives in Ohio and have been here my whole life ( I know my comment is SO late, I’m catching up), I HATE it. I’m on the WV border, not far from Pittsburgh too, and it’s literally nothing but cornfields here. Hoping to move to Cincinnati soon myself. There’s nothing happening here and the people haven’t changed since the beginning of time I swear. My section of Ohio is everything negative people feel towards the state.

I looove Disney films - the art and the storytelling. But I’ve never liked the Disney aesthetic much outside of the films. I feel like it’s so different. I feel the same about most fandoms though - I feel like the merch never looks like it actually belongs in the films.

@@yeahmaybepodcast I don’t know why I’m still thinking about this lmao but I’ve just remembered when I was a kid my parents bought me Belle’s dress but I was secretly disappointed because it had a picture of Belle on the front and that didn’t make any sense to me because the one in the film didn’t have that 😆 but when my dad made me a wand out of bamboo for my Harry Potter fancy dress I was thrilled because it was real wood like they were supposed to be 😅. Apparently I have always had these high standards lmao (fussy af). But yeah my fave art in the disney films is all the scenery - particularly in the older films like Bambi - but I feel like the Disney aesthetic outside the films is v much focused on the characters and cartoony/cutesy. Which has its own charm - especially for kids, - but it’s not what makes the films for me.
I think ghibli just partners with Disney in the US.
I am the weird chicken kitchen lady but I only have like 2 or 3 chickens soooo idk maybe its ok lol. I also collect oddities and bones. I have raccoon paws, bugs, antlers, and lots of bones from various animals. I have more bones than I know what to do with atm so ideally ill be making shadow boxes in the future.
Im from California i live in oregon now and I was living in rural Pennsylvania in the bottom left corner basically in West Virginia or the "western pensyl-tuccy" area lol after a really bad relationship to escape and feel safe. I went with essentially strangers across the country in an rv after burning man to go live with them for almost 6 months to maybe a year. While I was there we went to a music festival in Ohio called fennario. Super big with greatful dead fans I just went to go, but I met some really cool people from Ohio while I was there and I ended up becoming good friends with them Roy would drive 4 hours there and back to pick me up from Pennsylvania just to hang out. Id stay a few days at a time. His family and everyone I met in Ohio were really warm and welcoming and made me feel at home. They lived in huber heights, and while Ohio as a state is boring I think the people who live there make up for that in 10fold with their personal connections to each other and making things around them to do. I very briefly visited what I think was the outskirts of cinnci I didn't get to see much of it but I want to go back to Ohio I genuinely miss it. Idk if you guys know about jungle Jim's I think thats what its called It was on the way to cinnci, its a big multi cultural food mall with like 1200 different hot sauces. Yall should go.
Anyway the point being I miss Ohio and I think there's something to be said about the people who live there. I think there's alot of good people out there. Maybe I just had a really good experience.
