      So basically applying for residency is the same in any accredited medical school outside the US? If you graduate from a European med school is it equally as hard to get a US residency as it is from a Caribbean med school? If the answer is yes I wonder why more Americans don't consider Europe. It's cheaper and better facilities. Oh yeah and the awesome culture.
      Forgot to mention there are lots of English programs.

    Just wanted to say, I randomly stumbled on this video and thought, it was a great down to earth way to explain this point. Just to add a thing or two, any Caribbean school, you choose would be hardwork, atleast if you want the best outcome... atleast it was for me,... when I decided to change careers, I wanted to be an ER doc, went to a Caribbean school, worked my behind off, graduated in 2021, and I am about to finish my first year as an ER resident, at an incredible place. And don't forget, "statistics is based on the population and not the individual".....

      I just saw this and man…I really need to see this comment. I’ve been applying to schools this season but I don’t think I’ll get into a US/DO school so I applied to the accredited Caribbean schools. A family friend of ours went there and is now a full fledged attending now in the states. I too want to do Emergency Medicine but I’ve been reading that it’s either friendly or pretty hard for IMGs to secure. What are your thoughts? Did you apply to any back up specialties like Internal Medicine? Thanks

    I'd like to strongly warn any student against going to AUA. Even though I recently passed my Step 1, my experience has been HORRIBLE with the administrative staff. They fail to do their job to help you, then attack you or downright ignore you when you reach out to deflect from their own incompetence. Suicide, rape, bullying, violence, and theft are sky high on campus. They don't have proper security cameras (in violation of US accreditation policies) and you're risking your life going there. I was jumped and injured by 3 students on campus and had the contents of my locker stolen. AUA did nothing to protect me and made it clear they're a business that wants your tuition money, not a school that cares if you pass or survive.

    No obligations other than study doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good thing. Distractions to some sort of a degree is very healthy. You can’t study every freaking hour. I would rather see it as a negative reason, why you shouldn’t choose this path.

    • @SeanDarmal
      @SeanDarmal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there. You’re not wrong at all. It’s always good to keep a healthy balance between studying and personal time. Just because there are no extra obligations doesn’t mean you’re still studying nonstop, because you still make time for yourself no matter what, or else you would go crazy. When you see the actual work load, I think you would understand what I mean though. Good point though

    Hello,
    New subscriber here. I have a question if you don’t mind answering. Is it true that the term 5 final exam is worth 45% which is a way to weed people out from getting a clinical spot because SGU has lost a majority of its spots to other schools?

      Hi, I’m just curious as to where did you hear this info?

    • @SeanDarmal
      @SeanDarmal  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, so sorry for the delay. i am in the middle of studying for step 2, but i remembered this comment and wanted to come back to it later. now i am not entirely sure what the most recent syllabus is for term 5, they changed it like twice since last year. so if you could send me the information source, i would love to look at it. but in the mean time, the way it works is that there are 2 final exams that are cumulative based that you will come across in your 5th term. one is the BSCE 2 (from SGU ) and one called the CBSCE (something like that) (from the NBME, the people who make the step exam). the percentage breakdown of the grade for term 5 changes here and there. but yeah its a two big parts of your term 5 grade. thats why term 5 is stressful, because a lot of your grade comes down to 2 exams (close to 65%). the good thing is that what usually happens is that you basically end up performing the same on those two exams as the average of your other exams throughout your terms.

    Anyone who thinks they have what it takes to be a doctor however want to avoid the mcat = you’re not going to be a doctor. We call those nurses/NP’s/PA’s lol. The Mcat will tell you if you have what it takes to be a dr or not. If you can’t score a minimum of 506 = go to nursing school. I truly feel for her. She seems like a nice kind hearted young woman. Any “med school” that doesn’t require an mcat = run away as fast as you can. They’re worthless

      I am not sure what your credentials are, but physicians do not discourage students from achieving his or her goal of being a Doctor. There are plenty of programs to enhance an academic career. Furthermore, medical schools including the Caribbean do require an MCAT and there are a lot of SGU and Ross students that have residencies throughout the US.
