Playing in the Dirt (with) Pregnant Pigs

- Today I can finally play in the dirt in front of the new barn! It has dried out enough for me to clean up and regrade the area. And we are pretty sure both our sows are pregnant...I spend a few minutes talking about the future of our giant boar, JJ. Finally, I grill a chicken for dinner and share our "secret" sauce recipe.

Mr. You work hard and deserve EVERY CENT you make...earn. Hats off, and huge respect to you and yours.
Please please please keep your family safe!! My husband and I love watching you and your wife after I get home from work.
It doesn't get any better than farm-raised food. Thanks to my wonderful neighbor, I've had chicken, pig, and beef right off the land. The store-bought food doesn't compare. One is generic, and the other is original, which is farm raised. We cook our chicken just like Pete does. It's delicious. Thanks for the upload, Pete!!
Your videos are so good, and getting better somehow.Definitely my favorite channel on TH-cam. Thank You Pete & Hillary.
Thank you! Your soothing voice helps with my anxiety!!!
*Hey Pete just want to say your channel should be over 1 million subs with your kindness and the love of your family with it thank you Pete!*
To to
Every Nov we get hot sausage and breakfast sausage from a nearby farm-delicious! I enjoy watching the pigs, thanks for sharing them!
That grading came out so well! Every time you drove by it on video I would comment to myself ‘We gotta get to that’
I agree with you 100% on the difference in the taste and texture of chicken raised naturally compared to super market poultry.
Today’s generations don’t know any better, they’ve been raised on this factory produced poultry all their lives.
I’m 81 and remember what chicken tasted like we raised ourselves.
I pay the extra price to get open range poultry. The texture and the taste of the meat is superior to what the factory farms send to market.
Farm raised and farm fresh is always the best. That area you cleaned up looks so much better now. Thanks for sharing, Pete. Another cup of coffee and enjoying your video. Best way to begin the day!
I am always mesmerized at how well you and your wife work together.
Nothing like seat time my Pops always said! He would have loved spending a day just like this! Thanks for sharing it and giving me another excuse to miss my Pops! You actually brought tears to my eyes watching you! Thank you for that!
I love how you care for your animals and how you talk things out. I always like the way you give us your opinion on cooking them. Delicious
Pigs. Chickens in the pasture and on the grill. Helping Dad. Grading and droning. Thanks for a great day-starter!!
I agree home grown chicken is the best of the best, Thanks Pete for another great day on the Farm,
Great stuff, Pete! Thank you and Hillary for all the work y'all do. Farming, videoing, editing. Love your stuff.
you are not kidding about the chicken I raised my own this year what a difference, Thanks for all your videos love em🙂
So glad to hear you don’t send them to the auction! I get that you don’t want to keep him indefinitely but so happy you’re considering his last days and keeping him comfortable
I just had 85 birds processed yesterday. First time using the chicken tractor system and I’m sold. Can’t wait to put one on the smoker
It’s like visiting with a friend. Enjoy your videos and appreciate your efforts.
I really appreciated the time you spent to explain and demonstrate the various adjustments of your box blade. In my opinion, based on observation more people than you imagine have no idea of the range of adjustments that are possible. Those adjustments are what takes any tool from so-so to really valuable. Thank you Pete!
Loved the video informative,a little humor and every day chores thank you for sharing your day
"Boar Taint" I looked it up and I learned something new today. Thanks Pete!
I happen to agree with you about your chickens versus supermarket chicken. The difference in feed is the major reason for this. You are allowing yours to graze the wild green weeds and grasses and actual exposure to sunshine directly. God that looks like one of the best tasting chickens I have seen of late. Nummy looking as my wife said.
Maybe you could see if there is an animal sanctuary or perhaps a petting zoo nearby who would like to give JJ a new home. I completely sympathize with your situation and your farm is your business and livelihood. You treat your animals and your land with such care and it’s one of the things I love about your channel. Thank you for showing us so much of farm living Pete!
It was nice to see the aerial view of the barns/buildings, I now understand the new addition for the cattle is not very far away from the other barn, for some reason I thought it was much further. You are rotten taunting people with your food, how lucky you are.
Since the first time you made smoked chicken, this is the only way we eat chicken! Ours are store bought, but like you, we add hickory chips, and it takes it to another level!! No spices needed!! Thanks for this perfect recipe!!
Pete works hard all day and still cooks up a delicious main course for dinner for his family. He deserves a double “Attaboy” for that one!
Your farm is going through another major transformation. It’s amazing how different it looks with the scrap pile recycled and all the landscaping you’re doing.
While other TH-camrs have become so commercialized, you and your family continue to have the wonderful balance in life. Keep up the awesome videos. Very inspiring to many.
It always makes me feel good to watch your show. Keep going and have a great day. I was borne and raised in Ithaca .
Good morning Pete all the way from Australia!! me and my 3 kids love watching you and your channel. We raise our own meat also and as for trying to convince the unconvincable people that home-raised tastes better reminded me of a motto that my family has inherited and that is "Don't follow the crowd they are lost!" (and missing out on good food), just keep doing what your doing mate your doing well! all the best and god bless...
Oh sweet a Bridgeport.
A knee mill is definitely a purchase I'd like to make someday.
Especially nice being able to make parts for older equipment.
Those drone shots are so beautiful Pete.
Hi Pete, your farm is beautiful and you and you are doing a great job. See you next time.
Pete keep up the good work!! Love your videos!! Alot of people in this Country don't know what good, home grown food even tastes like!! Just keep on doing what you are doing!! And keep the videos coming! Maybe they will learn something!!👍👍
You are The Man Pete. Love that your dad n urself has a great involvement with each other. My Dad would be 106 in week if still alive. Glad yours is still there in yours. I would love to give Ole boy a place to grow old on the farm. That's a Lotta miles for a big pig to travel down to Louisiana. I grow my own feed for the critters on the place. Only money spent is vet bill when needed.
The chicken that is grown like yours is fibrous and super moist.
Completely different than store bought...!
I was glad to be introduced to fresh chicken and eggs. Nothing compares.
Thanks Pete, very enjoyable video, and I totally agree, fresh farm raised chicken is delicous and does not need all the fixins as some folks think, you all take care till next time.
That is one beautifully cooked chicken
Another great show!
Nice to see you doing tractor work it's cool to see the super happy face you have when driving one of your tractor's oh and pete you have to keep raising piggers you do a great job growing out your pigs thanks for sharing
I wanted you to know that yours is the only TH-cam channel that I make a point of giving a thumbs up! Pretense is a common distraction on other channels but with you I feel the gift of enjoying the moment for what it is!
Your farm is looking pretty, all getting cleaned up and organized, I love it. ❤️.
There is nothing better then growing your own foods on your land. I wished one of your children grew vegetables on by our farm, then you could have complete whole foods. Lol. I know children today have there own agendas and rightfully so 😊. Your so fortunate to still have your parents and thriving God bless you all!! 🙏 Blessings 🙌 🙏
My husband and kids watch your videos every day ❤ they love tractors and farms.. would love to see about surprising them with a hat or T-shirt from just a few acres farms!
Had a neighbor years ago with a 560 diesel. He had trouble with it blowing head gaskets like you mentioned. He had the engine set to 75 hp. After blowing two head gaskets in a row he installed a pulling head gasket. The kind that tractor pullers were using. He never blew another head gasket and the tractor pulled like a champ.
Take care of dad, my dad passed in 1990 not a day goes by I don’t miss him!
Hi Pete! Glad to see your dad get that Bridgeport! That's a nice addition to any shop. I worked on one for several years in the prototype automotive parts business in the suburb of Livonia MI outside of Detroit. You can make/repair a lot of stuff with one of those and a LeBlond engine lathe. Maybe you could have David Richards from the Steam Powered Machine Shop come over when dad sets it up and checks it out. That would make a nice cross-channel video. I think he would be happy to do it if you cooked him one of those grass fed broiler chickens. I know I would! Dave has forgotten more about machining than I'll ever know. Stay safe and happy till next time!
Pete, I’m very jealous of you and your farm but even more so now knowing that your dad is still around. My father has been gone for a long time now and his name was Pete. His mom lived in upstate NY and dad went to college at Ithaca
Pete, I'm a long-time viewer of the channel and I raise my own pastured poultry on a homestead scale for my family's consumption and our close friends and family. While I agree with you about cooking a chicken on the grill, I've found that my family prefers when the chicken has been brined for 30-60 minutes prior to going on the smoker. I know your technique works, but we love salt. I'm not ashamed. I would recommend anyone to try brining a pastured chicken -- it doesn't need it, but it's doggone delicious.
I really enjoy all of your videos.
Oh yes, big difference between store bought and farm.
Had a friend who set me up with a local pig farmer, bought a 1/2 pig cut to chops, steaks, bacon, what a treat and difference in taste ! 😋
Nice job on the grading of the yard area going to the new barn. I agree with you on the chicken, I just want mine plain. It's not easy to make those types if decisions with JJ, I'm sure it's going to be a tough one. Thanks for sharing you secret sauce with us, I appreciate it. Also appreciate you sharing your day with us. I hope you have a nice week.
Wow, great work on cleaning and grading the area by the barn addition!!! 👍🏻💕
Thanks pete. Have a great Monday
Take care.
Great leveling job Mr. Pete. That spot will be good for whatever you want to do with it. I would love to see you keep a few pigs as you said for your family and long time pork customers. I look forward to seeing Billy and Bossy Pig's piglets. I have no doubt that y'all will do the right thing for J.J. as you did John. That chicken reminds me of Grandma. She used to say that store bought chicken never tasted like farm raised. I hope y'all have a great day.
The Pageant of Steam is always so much fun! If folks are close enough to Canandaigua and yet haven't ever gone, I encourage them to go this year. There's lots to see and do! Good food too!
That chicken looks great Pete! Just the way I like it, crispy skin! 🤗💕
Pete's camera work is so well done, filming all this by himself wow, even flying his drone while driving a tractor takes some skill! I'd love to see what it's like behind the camera watching Pete hop off his equipment to set up the next shot, back on, then off then on then off again continuously setting up shots so us views experience a smooth operation. Filming like this has to be a bit tedious yet he seems to love it! Well done Pete! I never miss an episode! Dan in Oregon
The difference is like night and day when it comes to yard and store bought chicken. I agree with you completely.
You sure did a great cleanup job on that plot, looks great (but brings back those memories of picking rock...). Chicken looks good, love that Cornell dipping sauce, had it most of my life and oh man so good. You all have a great day, see you have good rain coming.
I loved box blading my 16 acres after I bought it. Used to be a rice field and had levees everywhere. Great therapy. Have a great day! Thanks, Pete and Hillary!
Boy thats a rough one on poor Sally Pete! The.yard is looking mighty fine so far cant wait to see the fence put up and more improvements, enjoy the chicken.
I thoroughly enjoyed this program today I’d like the way that you cleared out the area you showed us how we could do that and how you took the time to play some of the things that you will no longer use in the back of the farm. thank you for informing us about how to do with a board that has out leave his progress. Is it life . We are praying that the pigs are all the files are pregnant so we can see new pigs in the fall and you’re watching how you take us on a journey of your farm . , thank you so much
Unless you are a machinist or the wife of a machinist, you have no idea of the ecstasy that Grandpa is in with the addition of a Bridgeport mill! Well done!
Watching your videos Pete inspires me to leave the hustle and bustle of city life here in Las Vegas and want to go out and take my family on a nice plot of land to escape the heat and enjoy the simple things of life. Love your videos!
I can just hear those chickens pleading, “Daddy Pete, Daddy Pete please lengthen our ramp…it’s just too steep”! 😎😜😇 Tim in northern TN
I'd love to have a Bridgeport in my garage shop! Cool!! Dad can help with special repairs 😊
Always here for your videos, Pete-always a highlight of my day! I understand the dilemma with JJ and for what it's worth, vote for option 3. I also understand the economics of pork production-really glad that Billy is working out and hopefully Brownie will have a better result this time around. It'll be interesting to see whether the last litter was about her genetics or JJ's. That said, we've been blessed to have some of the pork from your farm, bacon and ham, which were incredible. Some of the finest I've ever eaten-which makes me sad that it's not viable. Your product was amazing! And the drone shots of your farm and surroundings-glorious. Enjoy your trips and your weekend and many thanks again! You're the best!
Thanks for making another video . Can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it . God Bless
The drone part showing your land is so appreciated...so pretty to see all the green and the trees.
Yes!
Do what you have to do Pete. We are watching because of you being you. Pigs are cute when they are small, but become an investment when they are huge.
You always make my day or night, thanks Pete for my sanity.
Hahahaha 😂 love the jokes. Pasture raised chickens are the best tasting chicken ever.
Pete, I always enjoy watching your updates. Thanks for sharing your farm updates with us!
That BBQ chicken looks amazing Pete. Youve got that smoker down to a science
I have used a Bridgeport mill before. Excellent machine. Thank you Pete for your video….it’s always a special day.
More rock comment: place the flat rocks in a box with the box marked garden rocks - leave them plain or add a butterfly or theme them for Halloween etc. They come from out of your ground so they meet the criteria of selling. 😀 Have a great holiday during your trip.
The smaller ones can be sold as pets.
Oh wait, that fad burned out decades ago.
Do what you do! It is successful and keeps you happy. I appreciate you sharing and since I am not a family member I don't have a vote.😘
Great video Pete. Your dad got a good milling machine. You can't go wrong with a Bridgeport!
Love it! Same here! We remember the first time we ate one of our pasture raised, chicken tractor moved every day... almost... chickens. There is no comparison! Thank you for the sauce recipe!!! We have eggs!!! Blessings and Re Jouir... and our best to Sally who went everywhere!!! LOL -Darlene (& Scott)
And the best way to start my Monday is with a motivation video from pete
Happy as a pig in muddy water..love it ❤️❤️
Seeing Pete sneak up to that 🐖 pig in the hot-tub was funny, the way the pig looked 🐷 at him. 🤣
Congrats to Dad on the "new" mill. Hope to see you at the Pageant, Pete!
I'm a backyard mechanic so I know enough to rebuild an engine some transmission stuff. My dad was an aviation mechanic, three older brothers were professional mechanics . When my dad's at the time four year old trucks head gasket started leaking, one of my brothers looked it over. Bought a bottle of copper seal to run through the cooling system. That was 2001, I have that truck now, runs great and never had another problem with the head gasket.
Love the videos. Glad to see your dad still hard at it. Nice car in the garage too!
Us country people who don't get our chicken from the big box grocery store don't do much to the chicken if anything before we cook it. You can brine and season and marinade for 24 hours a big box grocery store chicken and it still will not come close to the straight off the farm chicken with nothing done to it. You don't need to stick butter under the skin or anything. It's the only time I have white meat that isn't dry.
Thank you Pete for the video. I live in Southern California, just south of LA, so I buy store branded meats. I like your approach to farming and cooking.
So satisfying seeing dirt work. Farm is looking good y'all.
Good to see your dad again! Next time we come to market, We’ll be picking up a broiler for sure! Looking forward to Canandaigua, tho we won’t be there until Saturday. See you soon!
My son's a machinist and he loves the old school pre-computerized machines!! Oh that chicken looked good, that crisp skin was lovely! We used to raise our own meat and the store-bought meat was not the same at all.
Hi Pete and Hillary, I see you are about to hit 400k subscribers. What an accomplishment. Congratulations!
3 1/2 minutes in and I’m loving it…was excited for this job!❤
You clean up nice Pete ! I must say I love to watch you work . I could sit here all day but I am always reminded of all the cores I should be doing .
Pete you are so right on pastured eggs. The difference is unbelievable.
It took me "a minute" to get the Sally joke!! LOL Love that shirt you have on - my husband wants it. LOL Take care.
Your channel is great! Hope you keep pigs on your farm, they are entertaining and are good contributors to your content.
I watch all the cooks on the tube and elsewhere try to make magically tasting food with the major ingredients that are minor in quality. The "secret" has been around for years. Whether it's meat or veggies, you must know what it was fed and how it was treated. When you have the right food, in this case home grown chicken, the results are always spectacular. Thanks, Pete and sweet family.
the broilers that I raise taste better than any other chicken you'd find in a store. They have a much sweeter flavor than most chickens I've had.
