  • It is getting cold out! And if the defrost isn't working in your 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 Honda Accord now is the time to get it diagnosed and fixed.
In our part 1 of 2 video we confirmed the HVAC controls are working but the defrost was still not blowing hot air, so we are diagnosing and replacing the Heater Air Mode Blend Door Actuator in this video.

Excellent video! For all who have these era Accords note there's this "air blend" actuator Part# 79160-S84-A01 that redirects the air (via defrost or floor air flow) depending on button selection as well as a "temperature mode" assembly Part# 79140-S84-A01 if your temperature select dial on the dash isn't changing the temperature coming out of the vents when you turn it.

Thank you!! My mom's 98 Accord has this issue. She turns 25 this month. Near mint, but this is a big problem. Ordering the part & subscribing!
BTW: it's the exact same car & color (int & ext)! "Old Bessie" 123K miles.

You always see this type of comment but this one really does deserve the title of Best Auto How-To Video ever! Showed two blends doors, the all important correct part names (like A..z.n calls that part incorrectly the blend door), how to fight the plastic part off without breaking and even the PITA screws to get out and sizes. Gonna subscribe!

Thanks for the kind words we do appreciate it, and this is exactly why we made the video (because so many other ones are half baked and not very well done/informed) 😁 Thank you for Subscribing as well!

@@freshvintage i forgot to add in .... I went to the junk yard and bought that part for $18 dollars ! thank God you had mentioned to use a socket wrench for that screw in the back - it would be near impossible to get a screw driver on it ! I did remove my drivers seat to gain an easier way to remove my old one and install the new part

Hey Jay, I appreciate your video on this situation! My dilemma is different with my 1999 Accord EX. The mode door actuator is functioning in all modes (can hear it turn). When I turn on defrost or floor/defrost, after about a minute or so it will automatically switch over to body/floor vent and also recirculate. I cannot switch it back!! 🤔 I have also tried unhooking the battery just to see if that would work and it doesn’t. Any ideas what this could be? Will be difficult commuting this time of year without defrost! Thanks in advance Jay! 👍🏻

Thanks for watching! A few things we thought of here:
Have you stuck your head under the driver's side of the dash to actually watch the actuator move? Those rods shouldn't but sometimes can get stuck.
Also do the lights above your HVAC buttons light up? The board that controls the buttons is the "brain" of the operation so to speak - this can go bad and people actually rebuild them (we found a fully remanned unit with certification stickers that it was rebuilt on it at our local Pick & Save for this Accord while hunting for parts). Let us know how you make out! 💯

Hello thank you for watching and subscribing! You are correct there is a module that controls the temperature, and one that controls the actual blend door.

Hello, we do not have a video on this as we started with the head unit to try and replace the buttons, and that didn't work; we then ended up with the mode selector door video which fixed the issue 👍👍
