I used to dabble and especially explore ideas on the laptop (with a Launchpad and a notes mode, or just the qwerty) at a coffee shop where I’d just set aside the time to be stuck in that situation. I found the change of atmosphere to be inspiring. I had gone a good number of years without that routine and missed it quite a bit.
About a month ago I’ve begun getting back to this practice every couple weekends. Instead of a laptop, I can now do things on my iPhone (incredible the possibilities on portable devices today). It feels like being out at a place with a buddy, and having a conversation with them. You would never allow something to interfere with your ‘conversation’. At home it is too easy to imagine you’re stuck and take breaks haha.

The difference between a begginer composer and a professional one , is the workflow.
While the first spend hours and hours in a loop trying to make it sound better (loop syndrome) , the second already finished one track, because he composed fast...without think too much if it’s good or not, or the prejudice from others.
I include myself sometimes be trapped in 8 bars , ( layers, layers, and more layers of sounds) and don’t know how to continue after that. In Cubase folder I can have more than 1000 unfinished ideas!!
But then I try to use this technique as you use , and many professional composers, and try to compose something FAST and FINISHED.
Thanks to this, I could finish many tracks, and it really works!!
    THANK YOU ALWAYS GUY!;)))

One suggestion for such excursions and to expedite the process is to create a template with some basic instruments already in place.
I also don't know how far you are into Logic by now, but to switch between the samples from the same folder of EXS, instead of digging through the menus, you can click on the plus and minus buttons next to the sample name. And also, check the factory Studio Strings and Horns that were added maybe a year ago by now. They sound better and can be articulated.

Loved this video Guy, reminds me of some of my times. I used to lug my MacBook Pro 💻 around with a mini keyboard 🎹 and headphones to public libraries and cafes but I found it too cumbersome, now I just take my iPad Pro with Cubasis and GarageBand and the Apple ear buds and i find it much easier and better for mobile/portable operation. I use the virtual screen keyboard and use chord pads to play the chords and then edit on screen.
The iPad Pro seems to be a more fun way to make music in my experience, and probably quicker too when mobile/portable.

I produced a whole ep for a label in Italy entirely using iPad apps - which I worked on mostly in cozy coffee shops. It was like hi tech, lo-fi music production. I’m a big believer in addition through subtraction. Nowadays I’ve completely subtracted DAWs from most of the creation end of making music and gone to a hardware set up with cheap tape deck for recording live performances. Using daws exclusively for editing and mastering. Music + computer screen is something i no longer have an appetite for. When I think of making music, I want to visual organic places - not surrounded by a cubicle and other square objects.
