      Literally so annoyed because no video I have found clearly explains left hand moeller technique properly :(

    • @Severen45
      @Severen45 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@G-0 It's really not that much different than the right hand. Just think from the fulcrum (which is under the first and thumb on your left) then start with triplets and ad the accents like they did on the right hand. If you can make the motion fluid, and sound like the right, you got it! You only need to know "proper" moller if you march a group that heavily uses it. But they will define that technique.

      The people on pads are staying warmed up, so when asked to switch to the drum they will be ready to play. They do that all the time during the audition process. That way the instructors can figure out who fit well together in the line. I hope this makes sense.

    I always thought Moller was repeating bounces in a continuous way. So you’re stripping 2/3/4s together into even singles. This is more just playing singles with accents.

    • @poopslappa1661
      @poopslappa1661 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Probably a corps preference thing. Blue devils pretty consistently do the right foot stomp. Maybe since its an audition camp they just havent talked about it and theyre nervous 🤷‍♂️

    • @mikel7505
      @mikel7505 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah i don't think they talked about marking time since it's only auditions. Different programs have different styles so it wouldn't make sense to make someone change their feet drastically unless they make it

  • @robertf6409
    @robertf6409 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Some stuff he explains I feel you just do naturally. Like in the beginning when he's explaining how to play accents, the elbow/arm/wrist motion "transferring energy to the tip of the stick"/etc., it seems like that's just how you would naturally play accents, like it takes effort for me to imagine how you WOULDN'T do this. Any other way of doing it would feel UN-natural. Maybe I underestimate how bad some people's form can be

    • @calebward7227
      @calebward7227 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      That's a really toxic way of thinking about it. Believe it or not there's a lot more styles than what the Mandarins play. You'd be surprised when you take a look at rope drum lines like the Old Guard who grip in the back of the stick and keep the hand closed, a much different way of thinking about it than this. It's not bad form, it's a change of style.

    • @gregoryokada735
      @gregoryokada735 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whose version of "natural" would the line go off of, then? People have different finger dexterities, finger lengths, finger strength, finger flexibility, hand size, hand strength, wrist strength, wrist flexibility, arm lengths, arm flexibility, different degrees of comfort in regards to tension they hold in any number of the joints or muscles in the arm (let alone the rest of their bodies), different degrees of self-awareness of what they are doing intentionally or unintentionally, etc., etc., etc. It's not a matter of making value judgments on the merits of someone's form; a lot of DCI (with some exceptions) are about uniformity of approach to technique, regardless of value.
