Excellent! My favourite area to “get away from it all” has always been the Mendip hills and up above the gorge is very beautiful at all times of the year, but especially so when it’s clear and warm. Cycling around the levels is also a good escape, if you drive out to Wells or Cheddar as a base to start. Recommend Ebbor Gorge as a mini oasis, if you time it right (can be popular) but the footpaths above it are stunning. 😀

Thank you! I've never known where to drive to and start walking from so any suggestions are very welcome :)

I love being outdoors on my own, feel completely at home. Go wild camping quite a bit and always gives me a massive boost mentally

Sometimes you just need to get out there and re-connect with nature. I am lucky in as much as I can slip on my thick socks and walking boots and after 20 minutes of suburbia I am in the New Forest in Hampshire. Once there I can walk alone for as long and as far as I like. I'll find a quiet space, hopefully close to a stream or other water course, and disconnect from life by re-connecting with the natural world. Closing my eyes, focusing on my breath but still aware of the running water, the birdsong and trying not to be startled by the rustling of the undergrow by a passing squirrel, I sit quietly mediating. Sometimes I'll lay on the ground and give myself reiki healing in those beautiful natural surroundings. It strikes me that it is no coincidence that the word 'forest' is made up from the words 'for' and 'rest', for that is exactly its function.

How have I never noticed the for-rest thing before?!!! Whoah. Thank you for sharing these beautiful words, you paint such a lovely calming picture. More outdoorsy stuff soon!

@@Penfriendrocks As with all the very best bits, 'for-rest' was always hidden in plain sight!

Thanks for a great video. So much of what you talk about resonates with me. We have a goal of getting out at least once a week to walk in nature away from London and people in order to feel that sense of peace and open space...and to see a beautiful view which is important to us. We're lucky in that we work part time, which means we're essentially quite poor financially but have some time and space to 'be'. Love the drone shots! R.

That's very smart! In "The 4 Hour Workweek" Ferriss writes about "the new rich" - people who have enough to get by on and, more importantly, time and space to enjoy their lives. Time is the most precious resource of all!

It took me a while to realise I was an introvert - probably around the age of 30😂 I don’t thrive on being around loads of people, I feel overwhelmed! When I’ve had some alone time I can feel everything about me improving. My mood gets better & i’m more tolerant of difficult people. It’s not that I hate people (!) i just prefer them one at a time. This video was very relatable👌

Thanks for watching! I relate - I've always needed quiet time to myself but the people around me assumed I was extroverted due to performing and stuff. Then I read more about what an introvert is, probably also around the age of 30, and it all made sense. I think everyone could benefit from a bit of solitude.

What a lovely video with an excellent message. I do a daily 3 mile walk by myself, unless it is raining/snowing, usually pretty much the same route around town. I listen to music - randomized from my phone collection (it still amazes me that I can have hundreds of Gigabytes of music on my phone). I think that I need to expand my range and do some hiking, something I've not done in probably over 40 years.

Thanks for your words, I can totally relate to what you said.
Pandemic has brought some mixed feelings also about ourselves...
I also miss my lonely hikes, and should get back to it.
In the past I used to take Friday off and drive to the mountains or to the beach for a relaxed day, it was my 4 days week :)
It's funny what you also said about shooting in public, because I feel exactly the same, specially if I'm using the camera for some night shots, that take more time to finish...
Anyway, continue the good work :)

Well talk of timing... I was supposed to be going exactly there in 2 days! My fella has what we think is probably the Rona though, so got to reschedule. It looks stunning. Can't wait. So frustrating! I'd booked the caves too... Definitely going to have to find that ice cream place...

Sorry to hear that, Donna, and I hope he feels better soon. Now at least you know what the birds see looking down at Cheddar Gorge! I hope you get to go soon - the ice cream place I went to is just a little window out of a shop at the car park opposite Jacobs Ladder but there are others. Marshfield Farm is the yummiest!
