- Trying to take advantage of the tactics in Football Manager is all a part of the game. Maybe the meta is to get the ball out on the wings in FM, maybe it’s to set up a tactic that is incredibly narrow, but I can promise you it is never to go full narrow on a tactic. This is something that became cool to do on Football Manager a few years ago and my goodness apparently it is still happening.
Tactics are fickle and if you have the right personnel it is possible to make almost everything work on FM. That is, almost everything. I really don’t think it’s possible to go completely narrow and actually win games unless you’re playing FM18. Then it actually works and congratulations to you for figuring that out. I hope saving saves helps you pull yourself back from the extremes of Football Manager because they rarely work and so often make you feel like you’re doing the smart thing but can’t.

Had to root through the SI forums to find it, but way back in FM2012 I had a training facility upgrade cancelled by my board because they were instead spending the money on converting a stand to all-seater, TWO IN-GAME HOURS before the prize money for winning the Belgian league was added to the clubs accounts.

Well their chairman, who used to be chairman off the Belgian FA, comes from a let's call it shady family. His brother is currently under investigation for money laundering, embezzlement, trafficking and so on and is still a transfer agent pocketing large sums of money. Man FM22 is super realistic :p
I never knew that you could even find yourself in a situation where the board could sell your training facilities before I finished that first season with Charleroi, my first ever save in Belgium. It was an... interesting experience, to say the least. At least the board decided to allow me to upgrade my training facilities afterwards...

It happened to me in my Distillery save in Northern Ireland. They were poor facilities anyway so it wasn’t much of a loss.

I'm actually the one in the video who managed Crotone, with Z's advices I got better and I made it to the Champions League, Satriano the "Austria league level player" got 38 goals in Serie A in one season. Thank you Zealand you really helped me a lot and made my team better with your advices

Dude at Crotone did well to buy players. I did 2 seasons with them and did about as well as he did, had to abuse loans and free transfers, managed to sign 1 loan player from the first season on a permanent, I see he also got Estevez to stay, but I never got a transfer budget better than below average

I’m playing as a team that starts in serie c . I got back to back promotions to serie a in seasons 2 and 3 and serie a is tough! Salary per annum and club reputation is significantly lower than everyone else
@@mikhailsadov6330 dominated Serie b in season 1. Finished 8th in Serie A in season 2. Youth intakes were bad and transfers weren’t an option so I spent hours looking for loans and affordable out of contract players. Ended up going insane and moved to Roma in season 3. Took a long break since then cos I was getting bored
I found this comment I'm actually the one in the video, I made it to a two times consecutive 3rd Place in serie A and Satriano the "Austria league level player", scored 38 goals in one season. In the Champions League I became First in my group in the second year, over Manchester united, Leverkusen and Ajax and now I'm willing to continue and see what's gonna happen
@@bombasticvmr7312 did you come 3rd in your first year after promotion? I came 11th in my first Serie A season and thought I did amazingly. Mulattieri scored goals for fun after I re-loaned him, but I could only really sign Serie B level players from abroad
Hey Z, 3rd FM in a row im trying the Chertanovo Moscow challenge to fulfill my ego as an fm geek. Anyway, I think I’m kinda successful so no point at all to send the save to be analysed, I’m just here because I would love to watch you try that challenge because I’m my honest opinion is one of the hardest in the game. Objective - ucl win with only academy players (the club doesn’t allow you to buy non academy graduates). Fm 2020 I did it in 2038, fm21 in 2034 and on this version I’m in 2034 and not even won Russian top flight. Again, I would love to watch you try it. Best regards from Portugal!! 🇵🇹

@@samuelvdlh2200 first years are essential, the quality of the intakes will decide your team capacity in the next years. Sometimes you find yourself playing Russian 2nd division and ur best player is moskvichev, a 15 yr old striker 😆. Your main target should be managing the hot prospects contracts in order to keep them long time, improve facilities and give kids enough spot to grow at their rhytm. It just gets really sad when u get a 140+ cp and zenit takes it from you with 100k. I guess that’s what makes the save pure fun.
Upgrade your facilities. Hire staff with good personality. Adapt your tactic to make your best players work. That’s the way I guess. I’m doing a similar thing but with another team. It’s called Youth academy challenge.
Oh and of course try to design the perfect training Programm because you really have to develop those youngsters. It’s way more important than in usual safes
I think some players eg Doop can make lower defensive line/defensive mentality work because they have recruited with that as a possibility. If you are good or above average in your league you can ace the highlight killer method.
However most people who resort to this do so because they are losing, and their CBs & DMs aren't good enough to withstand the pressure/ aerial assault.
That's why someone will always say they can make it work, whereas most of the time people try it they are almost set up to fail
Nice to see the other Bath manager having the same issues as me with the stingy Board. I make the club money hand over fist every season with cup runs and selling players on for profit. But evey season my transfer budget is horrific. Thankfully, the Striker Fletcher we started with is firing me up the league and has achieved club legend status at the age of 26 while still with the club.
Bath manager here too, I thought that I was making something wrong with the budget but I see it's not me, what a relief 😅. Also fletcher is a beast, singlehandedly promoted us alongside Donovan Wilson
They were stingy in FM20 too sadly, I won the Vanarama National & FA Trophy Double, won back to back Checkatrade Trophies and a League 1 Title to get promoted to the Championship and they still didn't splash much cash.
The lower lines really work for me. I am in Seria A with Palermo and finished 9th last season taking some bad beatings with the higher lines, i now play lower line if engagement and standard back line (varies to how the games going) and now i am 1st with 4 games to go and i predicted finish of 19th. Watch me get FM'd and get relegated next season 😂
I find better luck with high-ability players loan just searching for transfer listed guys who are interested to join on loan, and then filtering them by "surplus to requirements" or "doesn't have a future in the squad", those players usually come with loans with less than 100% salary contributions, are usually better than loan listed guys and they always have an option to buy at the end of the season.

I managed to get Forest Green to the Premier League after three straight promotions. I now sit last after 27 games with 10 points and -53 (14/67). Record breaking season!!
I also got 3 straight promotion and winning the league with dulwich hamlet!, But i still playing on fm21, currently fighting for winning the league again and go to the championship!

Hi Z love your vids as always. Just wanted to ask you or anyone from comments section. For youth players do they count as club grown player if they go out on loan say you bought a 19 y.o wonderkid then loaned him to another club for 2 years will he still count as Club grown?
No he won't, not unless they came out of your own youth system

Does anyone have advice for getting loans or without having to pay monthly fees? I am in my first season in the Portuguese premier league and can find plenty of good players that I can loan but I can’t afford the monthly fees.

Yeah resignation is justified now because the board just sold their Youth Academy because they're in debt but the Youth Academy has been a huge help because it can generate money depending on how good the player was and the manager really knows how to sell the player for profit. Then that alone can save your saves in case this kind of scenario happens.
Just won a quadruple with man utd. Youth and training facilities have been downgraded and I requested board to upgrade and they rejected it. Philosophy is to get youngsters through the youth system and they now won’t upgrade the facilities 🤦♂️

ZEALAND please tell me how to hold onto a lead!!! i have dropped so many point from winning positions.
from about the 70th minute my player starting into the red and i make tactical adjustments to try and compensate for this but i always give up goals
please give us a defending a lead tactic!!!
My strategy for this: in tactic slot 3 I TRAIN a low or very low tempo possession tatic w regroup/no counter and low (but not bottom, usually one tick up) pressing and work into box (essentially all the retain possession stuff on). Set play for set pieces, do not set stop GK distribution (more time they play in there half the better) and i usually drop lines at least to standard/standard. If I am a top half talent in my league I have mentality set to positive, if I am bottom half talent wise set to balanced or cautious (never defend). The formation should be defense heavy (no attacking fb/wb, su is okay). CB on defend. At most one attacking Mid (usually a winger in my 4-4-2 for this). I use a 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2 usually, but 4-1-3-2 is good too if you don't have wingers. 5 at the back with two striker is good if you have lower talent level (ex. 5-2-1-2 or a 5-3-2). Recommend two strikers as with no FB and limited mid field support you need at least two for any forward possession/goal threats.
The key mistake i used to make is I would just do the changes for this mid game, not have it as a seperate trained tatic. The huge fall off and drop in familiarity would be a massive change is what leads to goals. Your players don't know how to play that way so they make mistakes and you lose momentum. Once I trained it as a second/third tatic that really stopped happening, they just shift to the new way to play but still know how. I use it all the time in my saves to lower intensity if I am up 3 goals by 60, 2 by 70, or up at all around 80 minutes. Now, I would say I give up a very occasional goal (usually a set piece) but its like once every 4 or 5 games I do this, and usually only in the games I start it early around the 60 or 70 minutes so I am already up multiple goals so giving 1 more does not kill me (and can save $$$$ on bonuses)

You probably have pressing intensity too high throughout the entire match as well. Try to lower it for 10-15 min to give them some rest. You’ll be able to preserve stamina and apply pressure defensively in the last 10 min when you really need it.

@Rebelin Games I have a secondary tactic that drops one of my CM to DM and my Mezzala to CM on support. Slows a few things down and but not drastically. I stay positive, keep my high defensive line (though lower the attacking line 1). I have only brought it out a few times, my team was running into issues in the final couple months of the season, but it has worked the few times I have used it. Basically, I don't drastically change the way the team as a whole is playing, I change a few players individually so they are more responsible defensively.

League restructuring and he got a lucky double promotion? Only thing I could think of. I know in Portugal they introduce a new 3rd tier so you can go from 3rd that becomes 4th tier to 2nd tier.
@@adzter96 it’s still the SAME NUMBER of leagues though, same thing in England when the Premiership started, my team, West Bromwich Albion went from the 3rd division to the 1st because the old 2nd became the new 1st and the old 1st became the Premiership…probably just a typo

I’m struggling at Aberdeen, I’m challenging for the title but I can’t buy better players than what I have because no one wants to join. I have like £40m to spend a lot of the time but no matter how much money I throw around they either say the league isn’t good enough or my clubs reputation isn’t high enough.

I would not praise players for training EVERY week. They WILL get sick of it. Every-other-week is perfect though.

2 seasons later, the Norwegian league became the 5th best league and player prices skyrocketed allowing be to sell 2 more for 85M and 130M£ +add ons!
2 seasons later I had filled the spots winning 30/30 league games, the cup and reaching the UCL final losing 2-1 against Manchester United.
Their goalscorers was Lucas the 130M RW
and Adel Mernard CM/ST for 50M.
This is why I hate selling any player in FM, some always comes back, and bites you in the arse!

Me: sniggers while seeing my Charlton side go straight through League One and then the Championship in consecutive years then somehow end of January fighting for Europe in 7th on a budget of around £40 million a year wages (lets just say sounds a lot until you notice the 18th highest is over £70 million...) and while building almost a full new side at a profit of £30 million
