I have always said the key to beating the Williams sisters is to pick on Serena. Players think Serena is the better player because of her singles success but Venus is better doubles player of the two. Serena is less coordinated and less tactical, especially at the net.
You can't just judge Serena by just one match.....it's a see saw bw Serena and Venus...... sometimes Venus is the mvp and sometimes Serena.....both of them are very well coordinated and Serena was just not able to anticipate them returns in this particular match.
@@Empy003 it's not only one match...net play has always been the glaring weakness in Serena's game. Watch her defeat vs Kerber in AO 2016, she's baiting Serena to the net countless times to draw error after error.

Serena is a shot maker but Venus is a more tactical player which is why her net game is superior to Serena's. Venus just doesn't always have the stamina to hold up the team when Serena is having a bad day.
They exposed a very well known fact about Williams/Williams. Venus is the better doubles player by a good margin. Serena just plays her incredible game but doesn't factor in doubles tactics. Picking on Serena to win against them isn't new. Hings/Seles were the first to do it.
I’m glad Venus got a medal at these Olympic Games even if it wasn’t gold because she really deserved it. Serena really messed this match for her, I guess things can’t work your way all the time.

That long look from Serena at Strycova at handshake lol. I remember Strycova was doing some of her normal antics at times in this match and annoying the sisters. But that also could’ve been delayed Serena reaction to the Venus/Strycova handshake the year earlier 😆

Safarova has 5 GS wins in doubles. And Serena was just clueless in this match... A typical example of when the power itself is just not enough against a perfect reading of doubles game and skilled hands. Serena was just totally tragic here.
