    Today the 25th is ANZAC day LEST WE FORGET

  • @TryinBin8889

    Hey Ryan!!! Letting you know today is a public holiday called ANZAC day, in which we mourn and remember the soliders, nurses, generals, families, fathers and mothers, daughters and sons who fought for us in WW1, WW2 and all the other wars Australia and New Zealand have participated in. We celebrate their sacrifices and achievements. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The phrase for this day is "lest we forget" and is symbolised by poppies (I think this is internationally however), which symbolise rembrance and hope and was one of the first flowers to grow in the mud and soil of Flanders (in France) where the war happened. We also have a treat called ANZAC biscuits today, and do a minute of silence to pay our respect. Australia has a lot of our own unique traditions when it comes to recognising and appreciating our war heroes, and I think that might make for some interesting culture to learn about that isn't really talked about the rest of the year round. Lest we forget, Ryan!
    EDIT: including all the wars ANZAC day is for, including WW1, WW2, and all other wars fought since WW1 (including Korean War, Malayan Emergency, Vietnam War, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq) as pointed out by downundanow5569 in the reply threads. Other fun facts are also being added to this thread to check! Thanks to everyone who have corrected my facts and word usage, hope this informed a lot of you too

    A little fact about the koala in the car saga: I'd be less concerned with the scratches to my dashboard and more with disinfecting every inch of that interior after I got the little guy out. Most koalas carry chlamydia, which they can spread just from touching urine, and as a former veterinary nurse I am quite familiar with how clean they are...
    The 'missing link' stealing that poor kitten's food is a variety of large skink we have over here called a Blue Tongue Lizard (aka. 'Blue Tongue', 'Bluey'). They can be semi-tamed with food as they're garbage guts and will do anything for treats. They're non-venomous but can have a nasty bite, which they infamously hold on tenaciously (there are many wives tales about how to make them let go). Because the paralysis tick does not effect them, they are also crawling tick transports, I've seen some with nearly a nymph tick under every scale. So I hope that owner treated their lovely cat with monthly medication and checks their coat daily.

    • @Zed483
      @Zed483 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Reptile ticks are totally different to the ones that affect mammals.
      As far as clymidia , unless you are rooting the poor koala it's not going to bother u.

      No, koalas can still transmit chlamydia to humans by their urine.
      People try to pick them up to cuddle them, etc, and if the koala has the STD and urinates on the human, it can be transferred that way.
      Not every STD is all about sex and sexual activity.

      Ditto. Our bluey lives around our barn, carport and back verandah. Apart from nicking cat food, Bluey likes strawberries, finely diced steak and occasional bits of tomato. He has grown from about a foot and now is about 18" or so long and is often MIA now as I think he has joined the dating scene. He quickly became tame enough to take food from my fingers (carefully as his jaws lockgrip strongly). In summer he loved lying on the cement verandah, especially if I hosed it down. We have to keep a lookout when driving vehicles around that area. He also likes stretching out on the scritchy laundry door mat so we need to avoid treading on him.

    That was a blue tongue lizard eating the cats dinner. Same thing happened to me at my place but the cats bowls were in the kitchen. I had the front door open and this guy decided to just walk right in and went straight to the bowls. Even walked past my feet as I was sitting at the table.
    I only knew as I herd some noise at the bowl with the dry food. Looked down as I thought it was one of the cats only to realise I had a fully grown blue tongue lizard there.
    I grabbed him after a short run for it but he was ok letting me hold him.
    After I had him for a bit just patting it and looking at him I put him out back in the garden where he could hopefully find some snails or what ever to eat.
    Blue tongues are placid lizards and some people have them as pets.

    Blue tongue lizards eating dog & cat food is normal in Australia. They also climb into their water bowls when shedding, so as to loosen off their old skin. If the dog or cat tries to stop them doing any of that, they just hiss at them & the dog or cat will run away whimpering.
    My neighbour had a fun one a few years back, his dog was sitting in front of him whimpering while he was trying to watch tv,, he couldn't understand why the dog was doing that, not sitting on his dog bed next to him - till he looked at the dog bed right beside his couch & saw a big bluey comfortably lying there, also watching tv. Dog had finished dinner & decided he wanted somewhere comfortable & warm to let it digest & dog's bed in neighbour's living room worked just great for that :) Welcome to Australia lol

    3:24 fun fact: emus are actually really useful animals. We can use almost every part of them. Their feathers can be used for decoration and anything else that feathers can be used for. We do skin them and use their skin as a leather and you can get emu leather bags, shoes, belts, wallets. And then we use the fat, we render the fat, which can then be used in Emu Oil products such as soaps, emu oil capsules which can be used as an alternative to fish oil capsules, and just emu oil in general which is great for things like sunburn. And then of course we can eat their meat, and also the eggs. The eggs make the biggest omelettes.

    The lizard was a blue-tongue, I think. Extremely common and passive little things. Yes, wombats can bite and scratch badly, but are generally not too bad. Weather is getting cooler. Winter is coming.

    It’s a harmless Blue Tongue Lizard. They live in people’s back yards and eat mice, cockroaches and snakes.

  • @elli4210
    @elli4210 ปีที่แล้ว

    The "missing link" is a blue tongued lizard, and they're pretty common in suburban areas with nearby bushland. They're shy, live in rocky hollows eg garden retaining walls, and eat meat including insects and cat food.
    Wombats have an armoured bum, and their response to threat is to go head first into a hollow eg the dryer.
    Magpies can recognise faces, so the best way to avoid being swooped is to say good morning to your local ones and occasionally feed them bugs from your pot plants. Most of them don't swoop, and it's only in spring.

    Yep, those koala claws can do good damage. I remember when I was kid living in a small country town in Victoria and seeing a fire brigade man climb a ladder to get one down from the power pole in our yard at night when all of a sudden the koala jumped straight onto his face. Omg the sound the koala made growling and the poor guy screaming. My parents rushed us kids back inside, so we didn't see the guys face when he got down.

    Aussies have a unique relationship with wildlife. We’re respectfully aware, we quietly stay away from the nasty ones, but we have no problem interacting with them in our day to day life. Because it’s their land we’re living on.
    Our kids are taught about respecting wildlife in school, and it’s also just a part our culture.
    For example: there’s a black snake living under my house, and we leave him be. My kids run and play outside barefoot and it’s no problem.
    Rosellas and Alisterus birds gather around my veggie patch every morning, stay and watch me do the gardening.
    Kookaburras line up on my verandah every arvo like clockwork.
    And there’s a kangaroo that pulls parcels out of my mailbox. I’ve called her Barb. 🥰
    (And I only live 25 minutes outside of Melbourne city centre)

    Australia lost one of its greatest global exports this week with the death of Barry Humphries. Perhaps it's time to react to one of the TH-cam videos featuring this unique comedian/artist/writer. Btw, an interesting difference: you said, "A neighbour passing my house". In 🇦🇺🇬🇧 for a family hime we tend to say "our house". Is this significant? 🤔

  • @TheEthiopian1987
    @TheEthiopian1987 ปีที่แล้ว

    The water bottle is from a soda stream. The loud laughing like noise is a kookaburra. The feathery thing that looked mean is an emu.
    We are not embarrassed by getting swooped by a magpie, they do it so often that we try to avoid them during spring/summer.
    Plovers are worse than magpies though. Magpies swoop, land and repeat. Plovers don't land, they just swing around and keep going.
    As for the wombat, they are fucking solid. One wombat can write off a truck with just one strike.
    Would love to see how you react to the great product of Start Ya Bastard. It is actually a pretty good product, and is used for mowers and whipper snippers (weed eaters) that will not start.

    The voice of the Koala is known as "Ozzyman" popular on youtube. All he does is these types of videos.
    5:35 Its a lizard known as a "Blue tongue" a great childs pet. They eat insects and grubs.
    Wombats only hurt you if you hit it with your car. Its like hitting a diamond bolder, your car will definitely know about it, unfortunately wombats are not built like a bolder and normally die.

    Hi Ryan , the creature eating the cat food is a bobtail lizard or a blue tongue lizard...they are friendly...you just leave them alone..they can lock their jaws on you though and won't get off easily.
    There is some famous footage of firefighters giving water from a bottle to a rescued koala from a bushfire!!
    The voice of the guy talking to the koala is real 😊
    They use emu eggs for art...they are big dinosaur sized dark green eggs and they use the emu feathers.
    Wombats are cool...it has to have been rescued ...you can't have them pets otherwise.
    We had a famous tv series called...A Country Practice...it had a famous pet wombat.

      Vets came on after the famous footage went viral of him pouring it in his mouth? The said to never do it. They said to pour it in your hand and let them drink NOT to pour it in their throat. The reason is that they don't drink and it can harm them.
