Hi Graham, What a performance! Great phrasing! I have enjoyed your use of dynamics and tonal colours throughout your rendition of those pieces. A true tribute to Julian Bream! Yes, I agree Julian Bream is until today a great inspiration to all guitarists who take the classical guitar seriously. Julian Bream was a great musician first and foremost, and the guitar was his medium of expression. Greetings from Sydney, Australia Eric
@@segovianity Hi Graham, Julian Bream's lute playing was just as extraordinary as his guitar playing. Bream's rendition of The Frog Galliard, Mrs Vaux's Gigge and Lady Hunsdon's Puffe was so inspiring that those pieces became an essential part of my répertoire. I have just discovered that you also have a web page. I will drop you a line some time in the future. I am currently learning Morning Has Broken, an arrangement by Gary Ryan. This arrangement is peculiar because the 5th and 6th strings are tuned in G and C respectively. The tuning gives my Kevin Aram guitar a totally different sonority with wonderful undertones and harmonics. The unusual tuning makes the piece challenging but achievable! I look forward to Part 2 of your Tribute Recital. Cheers, Eric
So good to hear a wonderful performance of the Buxtehude transcription, especially as the Master never recorded it (as far as I know.) . Can't wait for part 2.
Thanks Donald! I love the Buxtehude Suite and I think Julian Bream did too as he programmed it many times. Perhaps he didn't find the right project to record it. The Froberger Suite arrangement is also something he didn't record commercially, although there is a live concert recording from Norway on TH-cam. Well worth a listen.
@@grahamanthonydevine-gad I did track down the Frobeger on TH-cam. It's a shame they didn't a commercial outing but aren't we lucky to have the transcriptions. The more I listen to Bream, the more I appreciate him.
Excellent playing and sound- I'd very much like to hear about his tuning scheme- why do these fellows always play without an audience? They are part of the event-
Thank you so much Marie. This is recorded at Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. church just opposite Greenwich park on Crooms Hill.Same road as where Julian's good friend, Cecil Day-Lewis lived. It's a beautiful church. I forgot to add it in the description but will edit later.
