Perfect timing on this video. I have my first winter garden this year and was beginning to wonder and worry about this very topic. I have been a customer for a while now, and I love your products and your videos. Yall just seem like good folks to me. Even southern Louisiana gets cold now and again. Thank you!

Good advice. One thing to mention, that it's not just the temperature but for how long it will be at those temperatures. Everything you said was spot on, however that is for just short time frames ( early morning for an hour or two). I covered all my crops last week when we had a low of 24. The thing is that at 8pm at night it was already 30 degrees. At 2am it was 26 and by 7am it had dropped to 24. I uncovered my garden when the temp got above 32, as the temp was supposed to get up to 50 that day. Later in the afternoon I noticed I had a little bit of damage on my cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and beets.Just on the tips. I'm about 20 miles North of Savannah, Ga.
I've learned that hard way with the time frame factor and I use 2 layers of 1.5 oz frost cloth, follwed with a 6 mil of poly. Also, get those covers off when the temp hit 32! Otherwise those coverings are having the opposite effect of keeping the cold inside. I've used wireless temp gauages to see how this works.

Great info. Thank you. And it was so nice of you not to just try and sell something. Eventually I hope I get to the point where I will need to buy things like the row cover, but I'm just in my 2nd year and only did a few things last year. Hopefully by next year I have tons of garden areas.

If your potato plants are small, you can hill dirt over them before a frost. They will grow right through the dirt in a few days with no damages and you're already starting your hilling process at the same time.

Last year when it got in the mid to low 20’s for 5 nights here in N FL I lost everything except collards, elephant garlic, onions and carrots. My mustards, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli and lettuce all were lost.

Nice I get the 10 wide and 25 long versions as I make low tunnels for several 2x10 raised beds. Ditto on the long sod staples. Tomorrow in Austin I have to cover some warm season plantings and lettuce, kale, and Chard some of which is new tender vevetstion. It's crucial to have frost protection ready..

Stopped growing in November. Giving the garden a break. Will start again in at least another 6 weeks. Have enough cole crops raised and stored for the year.
