Ever since I started drumming, there's no other cymbal in the world I'd rather play than a Sabian. And it's because of their very mission statement and the amazing roster of people that work for and with the company. R.I.P. Bob Zildjian. Thank you for making amazing cymbals for people to enjoy.
I love how environmentally conscious and sustainable Sabian is. They conserve water usage and recycle literally everything. AWESOME job! Not to mention they also make incredible cymbals. Just listen to Dave Abbruzzese's drumming with Pearl Jam.
Been using the AXX brilliant finish for 35 years. Never let me down. Some are over 12 years old and still sound amazing. Sabian is the best cymbals ever produced by far.
@Ian Soberano what a childish view of the world you have. You do realize SABIAN was founded by a Zildjian right? The name isn't 300 years old but the pedigree sure as hell is. Your loyalty to brands is rather naive at best.
Gotta say: I am impressed by how much of the process at Sabian is actually done by hand. I watched a video by Zildjian and most of their process is automated. Then again, it does back up the family fall out story that caused the founding of Sabian. One brother being the face who retained the original company and the other who was in the factory and founded Sabian. Automated produces a good quality but only hand crafting will produce unique and one of a kind results.
@@rjsal246 No clue. All I can say is automation may produce quantity and repeatability but it does not produce quality and uniqueness. Then again, I just watched a video that said the pro or amateur status of a drummer can be determined solely by their drum set up. Vocalists are using autotune and backing tracks and folks can't seem to play without click tracks. So maybe quality. talent and individuality are no longer relevant.
The HH and HHX and artisan cymbals are among the lines still produced the old way. AA are automated anvil. And all of the cheaper cymbals are mass produced. And individuality and talent still count. Top 40 and the like is made for the masses. To make money. Go see a local band and support local music 👍
they are virtually identical. Both use automatic hammer machines. Sabian just chose to show a hand hammered model being made. That is a very tiny percentage of what they sell.
I've been getting together a full set of Sabian cymbals for my kits. Really old 90's AA series. And scored an old 18" AAX Xplosion crash . They sll sound great !
I'm a truck driver from Halifax, NS, one province over from NB. I have delivered to the Sabian factory numerous times and had the tour there. I have talked to some of the people who hand hammer the high end cymbals. Really nice people, even talked to a guy who made Neil Peart's cymbals.
Sabian's constant innovation in new cymbals and quality control maintains their #1 status...Ive got a 40 year old pair of hats made in their Italian plant...just beautiful...
I sent my Sabian 16" AAX-Plosion crash cymbal (Brilliant) to be changed to a "Natural" finish to this factory in Maine. I can't wait to hear how it sounds in about 6-8 weeks UPDATE: Received my cymbal last month and it sounds amazing. Has a more dry echo hum that's consistent with what I play, plus I can't see my distinct finger prints as much as before. Traditional is the way. Next my 18" cymbal. Thanks, Sabian UPDATE: Had my 18" AAX-Plosion cymbal finished to "Natural" and I like the results!
Sabians are Canadian and this factory is in Meductic New Brunswick but I'm glad you got good results from whatever body shop in Maine refinished them for you.
@@litchar Yeah, they did a pretty good solid finish on both my cymbals and it was very cheap. It still shows the "CANADA" signature stamp on them, which I love knowing that's where they originated from. I think they are a joint team between boarders. Very communicative and trustworthy from my experience.
I’m a Sabian guy and will be for life. When I first started playing years ago late 80’s early 90’s I played only Zildjian. I ended up playing guitar professionally in a rock band for years. After touring millions of miles, being signed to three record deals. I’ve came back around and am in a position that I can actually go back to practicing the drums again. My drummer always used Sabian and that’s where my love of this company came from. The fact that Bob broke away from Zildjian and started his own successful cymbal company. I love the underdog story and always will!
For real. Plus some of those cymbals go for 5-600 a piece. I paid 900 for a zildjian hi hat crash and ride. It's worth it though. Cheap cymbals sound like just clanking metal.
Great educational video for us drummers, it's very cool to know this way where your cymbals came from, all my cymbals are Sabian except for my Ride wich is a Zildjian A Custom Ping Ride wich I love but I also want to purchase the HH Raw Bell Dry Ride, it sounds really sweet in the videos. Keep up the good work making the best cymbals out there!! 👍
nelson Rodriguez Love the ping ride! I always asked the drummers I played with to use it whenever they thought they should. Especially along with my guitar solos, so they didn't suck as much.
Yeah, if you spend the dough you can find some fine cymbals excluding no brand names. I've always found Paiste 2002's to be the most sound quality consistent, but i currently have a motley collection of Zildjians and I like them alot.
I've always been all over the place with cymbals, soultone ride, aax crash on the left, paiste 2002 crash on the right, and zildjian quick beat hi hats. Somehow, it works. But I had a 22" aax metal ride for 15 years before it cracked right under the bell. Best, longest lasting cymbal I ever had. I'd love to find another one some day.
Im always curious if any of these guys play for recreation at home. Seems like they have a love for it and would like to try what they do at home. Seems like a great job if they do....
Video is a superb reminder that no two cymbals are precisely the same, even within the same model, so try several to see which is most pleasing to your ear. 👂
i love sabian, have since day one of drumming, but i do agree with you meinl are doing some incredible things, i do rather enjoy the sound of their classic custom line,
Electric guitars and basses, on the other hand, can pretty much be inexpensively mass-produced to very high quality standards using computer controlled machine tools. This stuff is *work!!*
Im so curios why there isnt a viewing on how they make Chinas or Gongs, how they make different percussions and so on. Crashes, splashes and rides are shown yes. But the other aint. Why ? . Kevin , drummer from Norway.
I have both zildjian and sabían and sound really great. So muy congrats to these two companies but... still its rare to see bob zildjian promoting a sabían brand... lol. What do u think about it guys?
He founded Sabian. He also used the first two letters of his kids names to make the name Sabian. In the company break up, Sabian got all the original artisans. Thats why Sabian surpassed Zildjian in quality and experience for hand hammered products. Zildjian had to train a new factory of noobs lol.
Actually, Robert got the Canada plant that then produced the Zildjian K Series. The US plant that then produced the Zildjian A Series remained in Zildjian hands...
Only sabian I've used thus far is a 15 inch hhx studio crash. Sounds good to me. But doesn't cut through in live gigs. I use my zildjian a medium crashes. 16 n 17 inch.
sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost the account password. I appreciate any help you can give me!
Thank you for sharing this used to be a hidden craft, even so the secret of the musical inglet is not opened yet. So, this is the Canadian factory? Cheers!
tilt your cymbals toward you when your crashing on a cymbal try to hit the body of the cymbal instead of the edge because that's where they split also don't tighten them down tightly I don't have mine tightened at all no felt at the top just the wing nut sure you don't have to do that if you don't want too but try to loosen it up as much as possible because when you restrict a cymbal when you hit it ends up flexing way too much thus cracking or splitting
I am interested in hand cymbals only, but its very very hard to find good hand cymbals :( I like hand cymbals of ERT Orchestra and Arena Verona, but no idea about model and size. :(
Dimi Domo Yes...Bob Zildjian is (was, sadly...he has passed away) of the Zildjian cymbal making family and used to be a big part of the company until a disagreement led to a split where he took over the Canadian facility and started Sabian.
I hear ya man! but if you were in the testing vault, it could be a cymbal stand and you could test faster that way! But you'd have to sanitize them before sending them out! A great cymbal sound can be orgasmic. Imagine the caution signs in that section of the plant!
I have a Phil's Choice ride. It's a lot darker than the rides he used with Genesis (I think he wasn't in Genesis when it came out), but don't care, it has his signature on it and is still a quality ride.
I have been playing Sabian since 2007. Best cymbal made according to my ears. Thank you.

By far THE BEST cymbals...and ALWAYS putting new stuff on the market!
MrJireh09 Paiste?
Cool One more like dinner plates lol. nah use what you like but I think sabian is better.
sabians suck bro meinl or zildjian better
@@afterlifeyt9073 dude!! you resurected an old post LOL...10 years later i can tell you ZILDJIAN and sabien are great...never try MEINL

Love Sabian and always will and always will play Sabian and nothing else, r.i.p. bob zildjian thank you for making kick ass cymbals
Impressive, it's nice to see in this technology age that actual hands on craftsmanship still exists...
Yup, but this is from 2010
Brilliant. It's great to see the diversity between Zildjian and Sabian. Quite a few different techniques between the two. Thanks for sharing this.
The Final stage of each of the cymbals made . Sounds like a shattering of glass the Perfection of Making SABINA Cymbals !!
Great 👍 Video !!

Took the tour of this factory yesterday! Great bunch of people there and they even re-buffed and re-logo'd one of my older cymbals and it's like new!
Bravo guys ! Absolutely awesome ! Loved the tour and I love using your symbols in my studio.! Cheers !
I've always been proud to play Sabian cymbals!!!!!
i have a TAMA drumset but i use both ZILDJIAN,SABIAN and PAISTE cymbals depending what sound i like and depends on a song,
I used to think that cymbals were expensive... after watching this I think they’re not as expensive as they should be!!! Man, what a process !!!
I guess many drummers (incl myself) had that wake-up call. I couldn't believe my eyes when I was younger and saw that price-tag. :P
Shhhh
Sabian son uno de los mejores platos. Su brillo. Su claridad. Y su gran variedad de platillos y sonidos. Realmente son geniales.
Pretty dope knowing where my cymbals were born. Thanks for an amazing product ladies n gents!! #Sabian4life

Kind of fucked up how it all works so perfectly!

I had no idea that cymbals were that labor intensive. You really get your moneys worth.

He was the founder, yes. There was a family qualm between brother and thus Zildjian split in two. Read the Sabian wiki page.
