The short film (which can still be found in several places here on TH-cam) shows the greatness this film could have achieved. I don't think it was a bad or even a mediocre movie, but the first half made the whole film fall flat.

A modern day job tale, but it just felt flat. This movie is if Christopher Nolan made a Christian movie. Ignore the story of Job and the bible parallels. While it is loosely based on them, the story stands better on it's own imo. Also, Satan is hardcore the best part of this movie.
@@gregowen2022I was just making a joke since theirs this character called Night Shift from my childhood and his catchphrase was role with the punches. (Ding Ding)
To be honest, this kind of Christian movie doesn't appeal to me as a Christian. A very interesting Christian movie premise would be Christianity in the Byzantium, maybe the Byzantine Iconoclasm era from 726 to 842, those were interesting times. Also, we don't see the Byzantine Empire depicted in Western media that often, almost never. Or a movie focusing on one of the Desert Fathers in Egypt. Or a movie about Mount Athos in medieval times. Or a movie about Christian monks and hermits. Or a movie about the conquest of Constantinople by the Ottomans in 1453 and how Christians fought bravely to protect their city. Or even a movie about a modern Saint like Man of God (2021) about Saint Nectarios of Aegina etc etc. I find American Christian movies that have primarily a Protestant/evangelical view to be sterilized and missing a lot of important Christian history, mainly because Protestants are against the notion of saints, monks and nuns.
I’m excited that they are doing an old testament story that isn’t in Exodus. I agree that I would like some historical stuff about Christianity in different ages where the church isn’t the bad guy crusaders.
@@gregowen2022 Yeah, "historical stuff about Christianity" would include saints, nuns and monks, which aren't a thing for protestants. Even if those stories depict very interesting events in Christianity as well as interesting characters in the saints.

This movie was so bad I couldn’t believe it. A patch work of so many famous movies under of course the simplistic prism of religion. I lost any interest the first 5 minutes when our hero prayed to God and the devil disappeared, from that point on was just a bad comedy
Oh, Sean Astin is in this, huh? Strange he didn't end up like Harvey Weinstien and Bill Cosby. I guess he did a better job paying off and/or intimidating the women he assaulted. Sam Ganges is still a great character though.

Anyway, thanks, Greg. I was kind of wanting to see this because I'm a sucker for high concept stories and your honest but fair review gives me some hope it will be worth a watch. (Too many of these I find... decent, but flawed. But that's a rant for another day.)
Hahaha, I can’t imagine the amount of foundation Shayne would need to look like me.
I do hope you enjoy the movie. I wish I could have heaped tons of praise on it, but as you say most things are decent but flawed. I like the direction this company is taking, however, and if they can get a few kinks worked out, they have a very bright future
@@gregowen2022I know you're secret. You just grab a marker and let your kids draw on you to make it look like you're "tatted up" Mr. "Shane." 😉
But i feel ya, but it is important to be honest. They can't improve if you pull back or hold your criticism because "it's the right message" ya know? Some of Angel Studios' earlier work could be... very mediocre, but they have been much improving since then.
I’m here
Happy to have you, as always!
When I saw that blonde dude I knew he was a baddie, he rarely if ever plays a hero, or even a supporting character role.
Multiverse stuff is really hard for alot of BOOMERS to understand/follow 😢
Just seeing THE SHIFT trailer ,I like it.The guy that p.ays the drvil,UGH eho wants yo see someone play him,UGH, You know whdn xomeone played the part they have to watch who they play, JACK NICOLESON WARN3D LEDGER THE ACTOR DON,T PLAY THE JOKER THIS ONE IS UGH, HE DID AND HE DIED, LOOK IT UP
Just got back from watching this…I wasn’t impressed. I wish I could say otherwise, but to me the pacing was awful and it got downright boring at points. Tabish was pretty good in her role. McDonough stole the show and was excellent as always. He simply is one of the best villains in all of Hollywood, period.
I like the concept of this movie a lot. A modern day job tale, but it just felt flat. Although it did spark an excellent conversation with my son about how we have an almost unlimited amount of ways to say yes to the devil, but there is only one way to say no.
Rotten Tomatoes Audience is giving it 86% so far.
And already over $4MM at the box office! Excellent news!
This movie is if Christopher Nolan made a Christian movie. Ignore the story of Job and the bible parallels. While it is loosely based on them, the story stands better on it's own imo.
Also, Satan is hardcore the best part of this movie.
The shift? I know what a Night Shift is but not this, I guess I have to role with the punches.
Night shift is rough is what it is
@@gregowen2022I was just making a joke since theirs this character called Night Shift from my childhood and his catchphrase was role with the punches.
(Ding Ding)
OMG is this a true story? Yes, the future is now. Look
S
Appreciated!
@@gregowen2022 No I just leave a comment to boost the video & so that if I ever come back hear Ill know how long ago I watched the video.
I red: Oh Shit...
@@RhiannonSenpaiAngel is releasing a movie about Mother Cabrini next year, from the same creative team that did _Sound of Freedom_ . I recommend you watch the trailer. It looks amazing!
I don't remember the Biblical book of job much; but I did love Robert Heinlein's "Job: A Comedy of Justice". "The Shift" seems like a bad version of that.
This movie sucked…
Me in immediately and I couldn’t turn away. Great film.
It's low budget because it's a Christian freak show and only invisible skydaddy followers will show up to another bad movie
Wait, you're right-wing and Christian?.....
Technically, Libertarian, but if we’re talking a left-right scale, then I’m more to the right.
I walked out. Sucked
This movie sucked so bad omg
