      It sounds like Angel Studios is making better pureflix films and it's much appreciated. Also, Neal McDonough is definitely an ideal choice to play these types of villains lol.
      Lastly, they got a very interesting cast here with Sean Austin and even well-known voice actors like Jason Marsden and Nolan North 🤔.

    My wife and I saw it last night. We don't go see movies often since Hollywood puts out so much garbage these days. We enjoyed the movie. Lots of action and the acting was excellent. Their low budget was detectable but not in a way that negatively affected the storyline. I give it a solid B+. I hope everyone will support these types of films so we will continue to have alternatives!!

And I too am happy to see the higher quality production and acting in faith-based films, these past few years especially!

    I was blessed to be able to work in the background on this movie. I have seen it twice now and I will be glad to give an honest opinion. The first time I saw it left me somewhat confused. Not because of the story line but because the whole movie was something different that what would have come out of Hollywood. There wasn't a single word that you wouldn't want a kid to hear. There were no scenes with gratuitous violence or sex. It was a pleasure to watch without having to feel like it was a guilty pleasure if that makes sense. The second time I watch it was even better. I had already seen myself on the big screen so that anxiety was gone and I could just enjoy the movie. It was really really good in my opinion. I think it helps to be familiar with the story of Job so that you can recognize the references in the movie. For those that aren't familiar I think there is a strong enough tie-in that it may make a viewer curious enough to read it. Everyone that I met and worked with, from Kris and Neal down to the runners, were wonderful. I think the whole thing was shot in 25 days. That is a heck of a lot of hustle. It is the kind of hustle that takes faith and dedication to accomplish. 100% recommend seeing this film, maybe even twice!

      When you said that, "There wasnt a single word that you wouldn't want a lid to hear," made me think about the elicit language in Hollywood movies, how blasphemy of the name of Jesus Christ is used and how people drop the "G-da*it" word a lot. All of which I'm certain these movies don't have, correct?

      Fair warning though. This is no Hallmark sweet Gumdrop Christian movie. It gets real gritty in its depiction of evil, suffering, and doubt. This movie brings the Book of Job's truths to a 21st century audience.

      The book of Job demonstrates how evil God is and shows what Christianity is truly about..... Blind obedience to an evil character (fictional) that is jealous and demands that you both love and fear it or be tortured for eternity. Poor Job was tourtured and his family killed just to prove something to Satan (God doesn't know everything)? There is no moral teaching in this EVIL book.

    • @caos1925
      @caos1925 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Bipslone, God loved us first, and more than we could ever love Him, we could never die to save Him. Is it wrong for a husband to be jealous of his wife to think she should only be with him in intimate ways and not any other man? One spouse should fear the other for if they cheat on them. God did nothing to Job only took away the protection none of us deserve in the first place, and even after Satan hurt Job, God restored twice as much to him. How can you even say anything is evil though, without an objective moral arbiter such as God, everything is subjective. At best, you can only say, "I personally don't like that" There is no objective right or wrong, yet you innately know there is such a thing as right and wrong, that is the moral compass given to you by God but it is skewed right now.

      I am a Christian, I love Jesus but even I had my rebel phase and it was down to things like the utter poor boring tedious quality of the Christian entertainment. It was completely off putting to people my age but if you said anything against it you were shot down - usually by some preachy speech. That and the always happy clappy singing - I’m glad this movie exists because flip it, I’m NOT always happy, the world can be a dark awful place and sometimes I want to be miserable with God - the Bible has Job, had Lamintations, has Psalms screaming at God - Why?! People look at what they precise Christians to be and simply can’t relate and like me find that outlet in heavy metal music. We NEED stuff like this, remind the world that the first written book in the bible was a poem about a man who had lost everything sat in the dirt, head in hand’s saying - soon I will be in the land of the dead, at the end of my life everything I have ever done or said has amounted to nothing and my only value is my body will be food for the worms… where are you God?

So going in, not knowing much, but that it was supposedly based on Job or maybe just "loosely based" on the book of Job we were able to just roll with all the differences and appreciate a really great good vs evil storyline with a lot of interesting takes and surprises. Packed with wisdom, I highly recommend this film, especially for those navigating tough times. It's a powerful reminder that, no matter how long you endure a challenge, never give up. Lean on the foundation of faith, and just when you're on the brink, God shows up. The film explores the battle between good and evil, urging viewers not to lose faith. I was pretty skeptical of this movie and although I’m generally a supporter of Angel Studios’ films, I’m a bit wary of their content as gospel clarity is often left to be desired. But this film gave a very creative take on biblical themes, which God so kindly used to remind me of His truths. The movie was confusing at times, but the messages were powerful. The power of prayer-that God does deliver us from the evil one-and that God is always with us, no matter how deep in the valleys we are, giving us comfort and hope in those dark places. Satan is an intense accuser and liar, but his plans will never prevail. The film even draws attention to how precious scripture is, making me appreciate how fortunate we are to have bibles and apps and study material. I don’t cry much, but I was balling through this entire film. My precious Jesus, how sufficient is His grace!

    It held my attention all the way through, the acting was all good - although of course Neil McDonough was outstanding as expected! Wouldn't have been the same without him. The ending was...somewhat rushed, and unsatisfactory in some ways, although it made for a good discussion on Job and how the story really broke parallel there. I'd give it a 7.5 or 8 out of 10. Can't say I've seen a better explicitly "Christian" movie, and I appreciate that unlike nearly all the others, it didn't focus obviously on driving home/preaching a particular message, and avoided worn-out cliches and themes, this was something fresh! Loved the movie! I was an early Kickstarter for it and I agree that there was not a dull moment in it. My wife and I liked the love story in it and the special effects were good given the budget. The music was awesome, but I do not think I saw a single cross in it. Maybe it was because the primary world where the story took place is controlled by the Benefactor who outlawed the Word. It was a great movie without the usual tropes found in most Christian movies which I really appreciated. A non-Christian can watch this movie and not get turned off by it and will still take away the positive message of God's love in it.

    For those who want a fantastic story that parallels the book of Job, I highly recommend the comic Daredevil: Born Again by Frank Miller. Obviously it is mainly for superhero fans, but I imagine non-superhero fans who are Christians might enjoy it a lot too.

    • @mikearchibald-u6g
      @mikearchibald-u6g ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I hate Frank MIllers gruesome infatuation with violence, but one reason Daredevil is a good hero is that like Batman he's really 'just a dude'. Superman was clearly a messianic creation of Joel Shuster, but many superhero stories get their inspiration from biblical themes (of course much of western literature gets its themes from there).

    This was best Christian film I’ve seen in a while. I’m a sci-fi fanatic, especially in the sense of multiverse and time travel, and in a sense this was a bit of both. I especially loved the unrelenting faith of Kevin, and his determination to get back to his true wife. My favorite scene was when he saw her on the screen and tried to reach for her. The cat finally showing up was another favorite! 😂

      The book of Job demonstrates how evil God is and shows what Christianity is truly about..... Blind obedience to an evil character (fictional) that is jealous and demands that you both love and fear it or be tortured for eternity. Poor Job was tortured and his family killed just to prove something to Satan (God doesn't know everything)? There is no moral teaching in this EVIL book.

    • @christine96-o1o
      @christine96-o1o ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bipslone8880 but didn’t Job get back double what he lost due to his refusal to curse God? It’s not about a lesson of morals, but of the faithfulness of God. If you believe God to be evil, that’s your heart because you have something against him. I have had resentment towards God for how things occurred in my life, but if I look at it objectively, I can see where He allowed me to make my own mistakes, and therefore nothing that has occurred was His fault. I know this has nothing to do with the story of Job, but I hope you will take an objective look at your life and ask yourself why you hate God.

    • @bipslone8880
      @bipslone8880 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christine96-o1o That makes torture of an innocent person right? He didn't get his family back. God allowed his family to be killed.
      faithfulness of God in this context is blind obedience. Gods law in one of the ten commandments is "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.". That is his refusal to curse God. Job asks God why he did this to him and God flips his lid for even asking.... that is evil that you would see in a psychopathic kidnapper. Christianity is like a relationship with an abusive partner. Love me, fear me, don't talk back
      The god of the Bible is evil, you should really read the Bible. I have a lot more examples.....PS saying I hate God is like saying I hate Voldemort from the harry potter books.... he's an evil character but not real and has no real effect on my life

    The story is more loosely based on the story of job but I think it was better that way. You got to experience the pain and are faced with tough choices, making the choice of honoring God even harder than I realized.
    Acting was really good, I felt sucked in and wanting to know the characters more. It's not as big brain as ophenimer but it tackles a question that we really don't hear in movies which is the problem of evil and if God is there. (Still a smart movie, but it's not complicated to follow.)

    🤨 Something about this movie feels eerily familiar. I remember reading a novel almost 40 years ago by Robert A. Heinlein titled Job: A Comedy of Justice. It makes a mockery of Christianity. In it, a man travels through alternate realities, meets Satan, gets separated from the woman he loves, and decides heaven is worthless without her. There's even an appearance by Mary Magdalene. If this movie isn't connected to or some kind of copy of that novel, what is it?

    • @skymps

    • @thatMimosaGrove
      @thatMimosaGrove ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @skymps Not so far as I know. But I haven't seen the movie yet. I remember having a conversation about the book years later with a coworker. I told him I was shocked at the sacrilegious stuff in the book, like the idea that Jesus and Lucifer were brothers. He said that wasn't shocking; it was a well-known idea. I later found out it is a well-known idea in Mormonism, and, yeah, he was a Mormon. It's just curious to me as I think back on all this that this movie is produced by Mormons. Now, I'm sure they've probably made a good movie that's respectful of Christianity and all, but it does make me wonder...

    • @thatMimosaGrove
      @thatMimosaGrove ปีที่แล้ว

    • @jwmoreland
      @jwmoreland ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It was decent. My favorite part was the music buildup at the end, but I think that is because I love that song from Jars of Clay. It did seem to have a slight LDS emphasis on marriage, but that could be incidental. I agree that the Jobe tie in seems like an afterthought. The struggles were completely different. The whole multiverse is an odd mashup with Jesus implied. If it’s a multiverse, would Jesus be the same? Would he have gone to all the worlds? Could he have fallen? Instead of feeling deep, to me it just felt confused. Movies are hard though, and they pulled off a lot with such a small budget.

When he was young a was young as a teenager he started to get into attending church with some friends. And then one day he opened up the Bible a random effort he came to the book of Job and then he turned away. I'm sure there were other things in his mind but he says that the whole idea of God testing somebody like that turned them off to the thought that God was good. People don't understand Job. God takes the shallow faith of a man who has a simplistic notion of God and makes that faith unconquerable; or in other words, God gives a man who thinks he has everything but actually has very little the most precious gift that can be given - the knowledge of God. It's literally the opposite of what most people seem to take away...even those who value the knowledge of God. It's also happens to be the clearest early scriptural example of how the divine council functions and how God uses the weak and broken children He adores to humiliate the arrogant and rebellious powers that be.
