I'm a great admirer of MK and Dire Straits; being an intermediate player, his excellent fingerpicking technique has always intimidated me. So, do you think trying to play this piece with a pick would spoil it, or impossible, or what? Thanks in advance.
Using your thumb is really essential to get that Knopfler sound! Plus, holding a pick will prevent you from plucking strings with middle and ring finger as he often does.
Great one Justin. I have such a difficult time with the bar chord-hammer ons/pull offs. Curious. I know amp settings are pointless, but am curious is you are using the little Champ, or one of the Suhr amps. The tone for the rhythm is spot on. Just the right mix of twang and attack.
Very nice comprehensive lesson on a somewhat complex song broken down nicely! Can a flat picker play a song like this? Seems like you must use the finger style.

tbh mate I'm struggling aswell, I'd just try to play whatevers comfortable for you as long as it sounds similar. knoplers got a very unique style and Justin is a big fan of his so I'm sure he's a spent a lot of time imitating this style
You can also play it with a sort of pizzicato, knopfler ofte uses to play electric guitar with classical guitar technique, so yo can try a thing like thumb for bass notes and tje other three fingers to play high strings
Mark is a brilliant blend of folk and rock and "just fiddling about" like he said, it truly sounds so natural and playful
Well done. After watching this, have to go and listen to Comminique once again. Dire Straits, and especially Knopfler, right at the top for me.
