This is top-notch. Incredible and well-done! I love how you all went beyond the script with blocking to add more humor. Also the end credits is AMAZING.

great play but i dont care whether its in script or not, its awful experience watching combat scenes in dark and strobe. not only is it uncomfortable, it ruins the choreo of the stage combat and the expressions the actors are making when you can't see anything... whats the point?
may as well just turn lights off, fall over, turn the back on. i also hate when plays use pop or rock music during scenes instead of either singing or just letting the actors make the noise. i would love if they used bird chirping sounds when characters get punched or hit, would be so cartoony in a d&D way. and again, i'm sure this is just "how this play is" and not a fault of the director. great production all around.

I take your point - we struggled with that scene but (in our defense) it doesn't film particularly well. The idea of the strobe was to slow everything down so we could create a narrative to a fight that involved eight participants and so the audience could focus on each individual move. The music is actually specified in the script in this instance. In this case, it's both my fault and the fault of the dramatist!

@@CovActing/videos I didn't realize you were the director. I'm sorry, I was harsh. I really did enjoy it and was thoroughly impressed with everything. The lead actress did a fantastic job. That bit at 37:57-38:01 was incredible. It really felt like she was "Seeing stars" there for a bit.
I'm biased, I really like over-the-top and campy combat with cartoon feels and it's basically non-existent in theatre outside of some pantos so I was hoping I stumbled on a different thing.
The music is my personal issue, and the strobe is something that, even without Epilepsy, i have a difficult time viewing. That said, your explanation and justification for it are sound and gave me new appreciation for the decision you made. It's hard to show so many different actors fighting all at once.
Thank you for not taking criticism the way I would have :) You're a cool guy. Are any of the other plays you have uploaded originals? I couldn't find anything online on Bibbies?

@@SpaceIsWonderful Don't worry - I'm used to criticism! We did issue a warning about the strobe as part of the announcement to the audience - I probably should put one on this as well. As for the other videos on this channel - I'm a lecturer at Coventry University in the UK and this channel is (mainly) the student work from here. Some are directed by staff , some (such as Bibbies) are written and directed by the students for their final projects on the degree.

@@CovActing I loved the strobe scene! The fact that it came through at all on camera is a feat in itself, and then I loved adding the post-production zooms during the breaks between the strobing part.
