    In this episode, the Rig Doctor collaborates again with Brad Bartosz from Best-Tronics to build a rig for R&B solo artist and sideman to the stars (John Mayer, D'Angelo), Isaiah Sharkey. Be sure to look at the table of content below if you'd like to skip around to specific sections of the video and be sure to see all the links below for all the pedals and materials used to build Sharkey's rig! I remember meeting him in PHX, back in August 2017, a day before Mayer's concert, I was in a guitar center looking for something, and I started going through some Mayer songs on a beautiful strat I saw, he heard me and came by, as he started asking me questions I couldn't help but think "why is he so familiar", as soon as I told him we were there for the concert, he told me "oh yeah I'm playing there" and I knew it, I had just begun listening to him, and it was amazing meeting him and hear him play, he's so humble and cool.

    For a couple of my smaller boards where I needed a 2nd row but couldn't fit a pedal riser, something that helped was using the Tall version of the Barefoot Buttons. Makes it easier to switch the pedal without bumping things.

    I'm always astonished by Sharkey's playing, and I'm delighted to see his taste in pedals vibes with the kind of pedals I enjoy (big Chase Bliss fanboy over here, so I was stoked to see the Warped Vinyl and Tonal Recall on his setup...). If he uses them, maybe I'm on the right track! ;-)

    Mason! Finally building my dream pedal board and I’ve purchased all the overdrive pedals and the compressor on this build! By chance, do you remember the exact signal path? Any pedals that were considered “always on” by Sharkey? Did you recognize a preferred overdrive stack for his gain staging?

    • @VertexEffectsInc
      @VertexEffectsInc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If it were a switching rig, I’d agree. But, with series pedals like this, it can be well tested in an hour with little chance of latent failure if it’s properly evaluated before leaving.

    Mason, I may have missed mention of it in the video and I don’t see it in the list of pedals, but what is that Strymon “blackout” underneath his pedalboard? A third power supply?

    • @MrSpock
      @MrSpock 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ojai doesn’t have those components internally, so it needs that little box, like the charger for a laptop. Zuma can use an IEC cable.

    • @VertexEffectsInc
      @VertexEffectsInc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All the input voltage switching is happening inside of that box, outside of the power supply itself. Mr. Spock got there before me!

      Tension or a hard break angle would be problematic - however, there is no stress on the cable under the way, there is about 1/4" clearance from the Dual Lock Velcro. It's not sitting flush against the surface as a result.
