Wow thanks for the kind words. 😀
I most definitely will. Baltimore born and raised as well. Greenmount and 20th street 1964 until 1999.
Oh snap. Look at OPRAH !!!!!!😮😮😮
Look at oprah winfrey when she was a news anchor. Man thats crqzy
I love this channel. Real Baltimore history. Wow. It seems like the city was a lot cleaner back in these days versus now.
Oh hell yeah. My grandfather is originally from S Exeter street in little Italy. He also lived in Patterson park back in the 60s. He has a bunch of old neighborhood photos from the mid 40s all the way up until the mid 60s until he moved to Harford County. You can tell people took pride in their neighborhoods back then.
@@_Napoletano_i agree. Things really changed. People changed. Crazy.
That's because it was cleaner
damn, you got Al Sanders in his prime? man you been dropping that heat this week.
Thanks
Not to mention a young OPRAH
1978 I was 14 we was wild and the streets was buck wild not much has changed
These posts bring back a ton of memories. I was 9 in 1977. Turner, Sanders, Sher were all young and OPRAH was local and little known nationally i would think
I just realized that Baltimore has been a violent city for a long time. My goodness!
Use to live at 1726 N Bentalou
My new favorite channel so much information and news they don't tell you about or teach you about in school
Thanks
Too bad....no more crabs and National beer on your back porch in the summer. The produce cart and the Good Humor man came thru in your back alley in early seventies. Patterson Park was a beautiful place to have a picnic. And you could walk along Eastern Avenue from Eastpoint all the way to Highlandtown. (Even if you were a kid.) Well, you can't bring back the past, but WHY can't we??
Great to see AL Sanders in this video
As usual another great vid w/ 70s realness🔥
Thank you.😀
Stayin tuned!
🤠👍
Keep ‘em coming 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Will do
I was 5 years old. I still remember most of the newscasters.
Crazy hearing our accent even back the.

This chaos and goofiness has been going on for generations!

My mom knew Eraina Pretty, she went to highschool with her and told me about that story all the time
I see there’s a lot of comments, where people are mentioning that the city was so violent.
In context, in 1978 there were three times as many residents in the city in the 1970’s as there are current day.
Close to 1 million residents in 1978, Baltimore recorded 197 homicides.
2011 Baltimore city Baltimore city population was close to 600,000.
There were 196 recorded homicides.
Since the early 2010’s until current day Baltimore city has routinely recorded 300 + murders per year.
The population is almost less than half it was in 1978.
I was 8 years old in 1978,
I didn’t understand the benign neglect that was happening around me.
Residents were nicer to one another, there wasn’t as much angst despite the conditions. Families were objectively far poorer with far fewer opportunities than exits today.
The spirit of the residents, the different communities ~ watching these videos is like time traveling.
Places, buildings, landmarks, some still existing, others long since forgotten. Baltimore Ole Baltimore ain’t it hard just to live!
Thank you !
Mayor Schaffer! Oprah!
Residents had respect for Police. Wow.
Metro Plaza before it was open!
I can remember some of these stories !
Incredible upload.
Not only do you point out a lot of important contextual facts, but people fail to realize that the rest of the country has experienced many of the same issues.
Of course, there are a lot of ignorant folks who, today, claim that they "can't go into the city." I always wonder why they can't.
There's no law preventing them, and there are no warning signs around the city limits telling suburban white people to 'stay out.'
So, wtf are these people talking about?
Robert Thomas was my oldest Brother 😢
Wow that's crazy. 😮
I was 3 years old when this happened, never knew what he was locked up for. They say he was one of the biggest gangsters in Baltimore at the time. Very eye opening. Thank you for posting 👍🏿
My uncle owned a store and was shot by 3 teens in 1977 in NYC unless ur a victim or have family that are victims this crime don’t hit the same not much of a change in the hood same thing still going on we just gotta do better we are getting there tho
Loveeee this channel
Thanks
8:16 lol "yeah i was afraid, wouldn't you be?"
Damn right around the corner from my recent house
5:09 - I know where the old "Cherry's Pharmacy" was. Its across the street from McDonald's and the old Rid Aid. Its been the "Harford Road Liquors" since Bernard Cherry died after October 25, 1995.
Although it wasn’t absent of poverty, it was certainly way more peaceful back then. Notice you didn’t hear one person verbally abusing the police for protecting their community. It was way better back then even though it wasn’t perfect.
Have you ever dealt with the Baltimore Police Department?
I'm guessing the answer is 'No?'
@@MatewanMassacre Wrong again, but I’m sure you’re used to it by now. I was born and raised in Baltimore City where I lived for the first 25 years of my life. So yeah, I’ve dealt with the Baltimore police dept. Don’t believe me? Question me about it. Ask me things only someone who is from Baltimore would know. Ask me things only someone who has dealt with the Baltimore City police dept. would know?
Reporter Judy Womack? Before my time. She sounds like Angela Stribling.
Jerry Turner.....wow
Yes!!!! Thank you!!! 1Nation4Life
Did y'all notice OPRAH ?
"Baltimore Be For Real"
Lol even the 70's Baltimore criminals are more polite
Is that Oprah???? 9:28 😮😮
Yes
Oprah! lol
9:24 why do she looks like Oprah Winfrey in her prime 😂 I think that’s Oprah Winfrey
Yea
That is Oprah Winfrey. She used to work in Baltimore back then as a newscaster.
@@kinjizakora1665 she use to work for Epstein island too can’t forget that one 😂
Y’all seen Oprah 4:40
And at 9:28
9:25 Oprah
9:24 Oprah?
Yes.
Baby boomers
3:29 1978?
December 22, 1977. The story between 5:21 - 6:21 with Steve Frasier showed it.
5:53 trying to get poor people to spend Money they obviously don’t have🤦🏻
This is when the police did their job and citizens respect them young people today don't respect anyone or anything.
Yeah, because the BPD isn't the most violent and reprehensible criminal gang on the streets of Baltimore, or anything like that.
This loos like the 1980's
I know but it's the 1970s.
@@BaltimoreHistoryChannel410 😮👌🏾
@@BaltimoreHistoryChannel410 what year
People were soo much nicer not sayin all but most, I wasn't born until 1980 but I live that Era 100× better then now these times have become ridiculous no communication all bunch of bullshit there are some great things, but for the most ubdidk have to worry abt Corona or all this social media cameras constantly privacy, u knw when u talked on the phone u were home ud run hoke to wait for that special someone to call u,or just little things now it's become like some kind of joke
