I'm white and I didn't realize there was so much confusion about the Bee Gees race. LOL! But that's because I'm old and I grew up with this music. I can understand how you were tricked because you said that this song is played in many black movies. I didn't know that... so there you go, I learned something too.

Amen. We didn't need the word because even though we of the 70s thought various demographics strange, we were fully prepared to accept them and let them participate freely in American life. Then came Reagan and a huge backlash against acceptance and all sanity in general that lasts till this day. God I hope someday the human race gets tired of hatred.

I made my housemate have an existential crisis a few years back when he found out the Bee Gees were white......i remember him spurting out "my community has lied to me for too long", and i'm pretty sure he said "I don't know whether i'm happy or sad" as well at one stage, so i'm pretty sure this is a normal reaction for a black dude discovering the Bee Gees.

OMG, need to share a story of this in reverse. Right after Micheal Jackson passed away, they were showing all these videos of his days with Jackson 5. She said" I didn't know Micheal Jackson was black?!!", and pardon me for my reaction, but I started laughing so hard I cried, and she laughed also but didn't know why. I know he had a skin condition that I was very aware of and I know it was a very sensitive issue for Micheal. But those of us who grew up aware of him saw the gradual difference, but it him someone who didn't witness those changes, how would they know?!!! All the jokes that people made about him, I wouldn't allow my children or grandchildren to laugh at someone with this issue. But I look at it as ya'll were laughing because you were surprised the Beegees were white?!!!, no offense taken, whatsoever!!!. My heart really ached for Micheal and I really felt his pain when he did "Oprah interview, and she brought up how people actually mentioned they thought he bleached his skin to get rid of his blackness. You could tell it really hurt.

It is enough to know that we humans can create such beautiful music. The colour of their skin is no more relevant, in terms of having such ability, than the type of shoes they wear. One of the most wonderful things about music is that it transcends everything else, including race. As Duke Ellington once said, "there's two kinds of music - good music and the other kind." The Bee Gees made good music.

I ADORE you, Biz! Don’t you apologize! This now my favorite reaction of yours. This is the original. They wrote it, sang it on the album from the movie “Saturday Night Fever.” These men were magic.

Your reaction cracked me up. I enjoyed it so much. Consider this too. They were born in England and were raised in Australia! They were geniuses of reinvention and experimentation. Try Jive Talking and Nights on Broadway for funk.

Barry was nearly 12 and the twins were nearly 9 when his family left England for Australia as £10 Poms in 1958 so Barry spent most of his childhood within the British Isles.

I think your reaction has been the best one yet. Don't let anyone tell you that was hating on someone. I'm 66 and can remember when radio stations wouldn't play their songs because they sounded "to black' those stations are no longer in business. I love your laugh because you are being sincere with your review of this.

So funny to see the younger generations reacting to the music I grew up on in the 70s! Priceless! Every kid on the block in my day knew this from the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack and you could not turn on the radio back in the day without this song being on every half hour!

Love the Bee Gees. Your reaction was so funny. Everyone who was at least a teen when Saturday Night Fever came out had a copy of this album - didn't matter if you were black, white, brown, yellow or whatever - you owned it and played it to death.

Genius song writers. Every song of theirs is fantastic. Some they've written for other artists. Their youngest brother Andy Gibb has some amazing songs too. I could live in the 70's, 80's and 90's forever.
