In this control theory, dynamical systems, and control engineering tutorial we explain how to properly verify the stability of state-space models. We explain how to compute the characteristic polynomial of the system matrix and how to use the characteristic polynomial to compute the eigenvalues and the poles of the system. We use two examples to illustrate the procedure for computing the eigenvalues of the matrix A and for testing the stability.
