  • In the spring of 1281, the Mongols in China (Yuan Empire) sent two separate forces to conquer Japan once more from their failed invasion in 1275. An impressive force of 900 ships containing 17,000 sailors, 10,000 Korean soldiers, and 15,000 Mongols and Chinese set out from Masan, Korea, while an even larger force of 100,000 sailed from southern China in 3,500 ships, for a combined force of 142,000 soldiers and sailors. In the summer, the fleet took Iki-shima and moved on to Kyūshū, landing at several different locations. In a number of individual skirmishes, known collectively as the Kōan Campaign (弘安の役) or the "Second Battle of Hakata Bay", the Mongol forces were driven back to their ships after fierce resistance froim the Japanese. The Japanese army was heavily outnumbered, but had fortified the coastal line with two-meter high walls (元寇防塁 Genkō Bōrui), and was easily able to repulse the auxiliaries that were launched against it.Beginning August 15, the now-famous kamikaze, a massive typhoon, assaulted the shores of Kyūshū for two days straight, and destroyed much of the Mongol fleet. Most of the invasion force was composed of hastily acquired flat-bottomed Chinese riverboats and ships built in Goryeo and all of a similar type. Chinese and Korean sailors who were only recently just conquered and had no great loyalty to Kublai Khan. Out of the 4,400 ships in Khan’s fleet, only a few hundred survived the torrential waves and merciless winds. Almost all of the invaders drowned. Those who made it to shore were overrun by the samurai. The loss of ships was so great that "a person could walk across from one point of land to another on a mass of wreckage". The Roaring Typhoon which destroyed Mongol fleet in First and second Invasion regarded by Japanese as Kamikaze or Divine Winds (神風,) sentThe Mongol invasions are also an early example of gunpowder warfare. One of the most notable technological innovations during the war was the use of explosive bombs. The bombs are known in Chinese as "thunder crash bombs" (震天雷 zhèntiānléi) and were fired from catapults or hand-thrown, inflicting damage on japanese soldiers.

The Mongol Empire, the Goryeo Army, and the Southern Song Army that attacked Japan consisted of 4,400 warships and about 140,000 soldiers. It is called the world's largest naval battle at this time.
The damage caused by the typhoon was due to the resistance of the Kamakura samurai, who were unable to land in Hakata Bay. Not everything was wiped out by the typhoon.
Japan has a religion called Shinto, so they advertised that they won with the power of gods (nature), but in reality, samurai from Kamakura and Kyushu created a defensive camp to prevent them from landing.

The koreans and chinese barely repelled the invasion since the regent hideyoshi died
In a hypothethical scenario,Had oda unified japan, motoyasu/ieyasu would never rise to power since the edo plains would never be his(gave him huge amount of resources), meaning all of japam would be utilized to invade the peninsula
no worries of the shogun dying either since even if he kicks the bucket, the successor already has a stable throne
The guerillas that happened because of japanese brutality will just be more brutally suppressed with more troops participating, oda already burned a mountain for his hate of the buddhist, much less koreans?

Japan's ultimate purpose was the invasion of Ming China. However, during the war, as the reality that the conflict was largely confined to the Korean Peninsula seeped in, Toyotomi Hideyoshi would soon alter his original objectives as the Japanese army was unable to defeat ground Ming and Joseon troops and Korean navy.

The Mongol is extremely overrated in their Eastern conquest. Remember that this invading army comprised of a very tiny portion of Mongolian solders. They were mostly Chinese Han soldiers & Korean conscripts, who were not well-trained and extremely low morale since they were forced to fight for their invader.
If Subutai and his elite Mongolian forces were here, the outcome would be a lot more unpredictable for Japan or any other Eastern nations. Of course people can argue that Mongol army did not fight well in naval battles, but history showed that they were extremely well adapted to any harsh conditions, from the cold of Kievan Rus' winter, to the hotness of Middle-eastern deserts to the mountain range of Tibetan region.

They have no heritage, not a trace, nothing of worth whatsoever left from their "empire", not even the supposed 1/3 of world being their "descendants", i suppose this "Mongol Empire" was just a Tatar tribal confederation migrating westwards under the pressure of periodic climate change and tribal rivalry over resources, just like it happened many many times before in history with the Magyars, Avars, Huns, Scythians, Sarmatians, etc ...
They're just a fairy tale politicians and "historians" in west propped up in order to use as boogieman to scare the peasantry and keep them in line.

This movie is a lie script. The two battles between the Mongol Empire and Japan in the 13th century are the fact that the Japanese army won overwhelmingly. After World War II, the brave history of the Japanese army was dominated by the United States, and the United States rewrote all the facts of the bravery of the Japanese army to seal the truth of Japanese history. The truth about Japanese samurai is as follows. Samurai began to use Japanese swords that remain today in Japan around 260 BC. After that, it started in the Asuka period. The samurai at that time were guards of the imperial court. Around 600 AD, the samurai wore armor during the battle. The samurai took control of politics from the Kamakura period when Minamoto no Yoritomo became a shogun in 1185 AD. The Kamakura period lasted 165 years from 1185 to 1350. After that, Takauji Ashikaga became a shogun and the Ashikaga family continued for 15 generations during the Muromachi period. Then, in the latter half of the 15th century, the power of the local daimyo became stronger and the general's power weakened, and the Warring States period began around 1480. When the gun was imported from Portugal in 1549, it was improved to a gun that can be used even in the rain by a Japanese craftsman the following year. Mass-produced Japanese-made guns from around 1550, and in the battle of 1570. Fight with tactics using as many as 5,000 guns in one battle. According to the world's primary sources, the battle to use this number of guns at one time will be 280 years later in Europe, so the Japanese samurai were the best in the world in terms of the fighting spirit of the Japanese samurai as well as the weapons and other weapons. You can be confident from an objective point of view. However, for about 280 years from the beginning of the 17th century when Ieyasu Tokugawa became a shogun, there was no domestic battle, and since he was isolated by the policy of the Tokugawa family, the progress of weapons stopped for 280 years. .. Only 30 years after the end of the samurai era and the end of the seclusion, the major factors that allowed the Japanese army and navy to defeat Russia in the Japan-Russia war were the strength and combat skills of the 16th century and the comprehensive know-how of a large number of guns. Is because it was equipped in the 16th century gala Japanese samurai. So many Japanese laughed at The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise. It is not at all true that the samurai was a sword and the government army used an unfamiliar gun taught by Americans. Twenty years before the time depicted in The Last Samurai's film, Satsuma Prefecture alone fought a local war with Britain, and Choshu Prefecture also fought Frances, Russia, Britain, and the Netherlands. Of course, the samurai also used a mobile cannon. Since the 8th century BC, the Japanese emperor has the longest imperial tradition in the world, which has continued for 127 generations. From 1185 to 1860, when the samurai politicized, Japan was head of state by His Majesty the Emperor. Yes, authority and power have been different in Japan since ancient times in BC. Following Kamakura and Muromachi, even under the Tokugawa administration, he visited His Majesty the Emperor of Japan at the Imperial Palace to obtain permission for his position, regardless of the age of the shogun. His Majesty the Emperor of Japan's job is to continue praying for the well-being of the Japanese people every day. His Majesty the Emperor has been praying for world peace with the Japanese for hours in a room without air conditioning, even on cold snowstorm nights and hot summer nights. If you compare the existence of the emperor in Europe, it is like the Pope. By the way, when Emperor Shomu reigned in the 8th century, popular culture flourished in Japan, and the Japanese wrote the world's first feature-length romance novel. What's more, a woman wrote it. Comparing Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet from the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 17th century, in Japan, more than 800 years before Shakespeare, a romance novel was written by a woman.

A common misconception in the West is that the Japanese victory was just luck, thanks to a storm. The kamikaze is not a miracle, but an inevitability, as the Sea of Japan is prone to storms at that time of year. The reason for this misunderstanding is found in a book of the time, which is also quoted in this video. The Buddhist monks wrote to emphasize the contribution of storms to victory in order to emphasize the contribution of their own prayers. In fact, in the first invasion, the samurai defeated the Mongols at Akasaka and Torikai, forcing them to retreat to their mother ships. And in the second invasion, the Mongols landed in Japan and were unable to establish a base on land for a month, forcing them to retreat to their mother ships at night. The samurai continued to fire many arrows during the day and launched night raids on the Mongol mother ships, throwing dead cows and horses into the mother ships. Chinese books are full of accounts of how dangerous and suicidal hand-to-hand combat with these crazed samurai was.

The Spanish and Mongol forces had similar outcomes in the end. Both forces attempted to invade island nations. Both ended up failing due to weather and other circumstances. Both had massive fleets and heavy casualties. The English called the weather the Protestant Wind and the Japanese called the typhoon the Kamikaze.

The Japanese won the war. and a short time later the Mongols as an empire DIED.
But both the Armada and the Army of the fox of Elizabeth I of Tudor, LOST THE WAR AGAINST SPAIN, The invasion of England was not to invade it but a deception fleet, that is, to make the stupid fall into a trap, and the famous English invincible or Drake-Norreys Expedition worked. that it was defeated, and the saddest thing, thanks to the victory and the spoils of war, the victorious Spain discovered, the lie of the English cannon that was of iron and not of bronze; Spain creating an upper cannon made of Toledo steel as were its famous swords; which does not rust, in the end Elizabeth I of Tudor dies bitter and extremely poor because of that long war she and her kingdom.
So the English when she dies put on the throne of England THE son of Elizabeth's enemy Mary Stuart, the new King of England who asks for peace and SPAIN FULFILLED ITS OBJECTIVE to eliminate the ill-born Elizabeth I and disappear her disgusting dynasty the Tudor, SPAIN WILL BE BEING A POWER FOR ANOTHER 300 YEARS.

  • @heze6934
    @heze6934 5 ปีที่แล้ว +479

There are some inaccuracies. So let me add some information.
    1) We have around 5 - 15 typhoon every year for sure and they come between July and October. Accordingly, failure of landing the coast of Japan before August directly means failure of invasion. The important point is, the Mongolian army failed to land the coast within 4 month after starting invasion in April. So it is not unlucky of them but they were completely defeated by Japanese soldiers.
    2) The battles were continued day and night. In the night, Japanese soldiers assaulted each ship and get on board in the darkness and start battles with Mongolian soldiers then set fire on the ship. Mongolian soldiers (mostly koreans) are not accustomed with one-to-one fights, so they had huge casualties, then lost many ships.
    3) Failure of landing so many months lead them to starvation as well as huge number of casualties defeats their willingness to the war.
    4) The 'Divine-Wind (Kamikaze)' stories were fabricated by monks and priests later so that they can attract more believers. Nobody in the battle thought that the victory was by luck.

Kinda late but for me their victory is not only because of luck just like what you said though the japanese would send some skirmish to destroy the ships itself and kill as many soldiers. Also japan was not in the disadvantage here though the mongolians themselves have to cross the sea to get to japan itself which is a hard job to do because of the geological advantage of japan itself even if the mongolians can land their cavalry itself which is their strongest I highly doubt they would do a good job just like what I said earlier the japan have the geological advantage itself they have to land their troops first before they can use their advantage but at that point of time the japanese soldiers have already fortified the shores itself which means they would have to destroy it first in order for them to use their strongest army itself. Also one thing to keep in mind here is that just like the soldiers that the mongolian send to attack japan which is comprised of han soldiers, korean soldiers and many other more they will not send their strongest or valuable army itself to die there for reasons first the horses it might sound useless but during that time horses are super valuable itself and would not risk losing such precious resources itself second is the danger of landing to japan they would need to resupply their army also if they manage to defeat the shore defenders which is hard at that time because of their ships third is the land itself they do not know the land very well itself and they would need to scout many times over though to actually get to know the land and by that point of time the japanese will not let the mongolian army itself stay on their land itself. This is just my insights for whats going to happen even if the divine wind didn't happen.

Your point #4 is also inaccurate. That's purely your own opinion. The storm and rage seawater did delay many ships as a result of failure of landing (pt #1).
The monks and priests took "Divine-wind" to honor the spirit behind the nature. That way the soldiers and citizens were much motivated and determined to fight. "Kamikaze" has passed onto many generations.
"Nobody" in the battle thought that the victory was by luck. Agreed but luck is always the ultimate factor to determine fate.
"Nobody" should defy the divine power 🙏

During the second invasion, Japanese troops fought Mongolian forces for two months.
The Japanese army repelled the strongest Urs unit of the Mongolian Empire.
They are the units that have defeated the German and Polish forces.
The Mongolian army, which had not been able to land for two months, finally encountered a typhoon.
The Japanese army fought against the strongest troops of the Mongolian army and won the victory.
    This is the historical truth.
However, the Kamakura government was unable to reward Samurai.
The samurai stubbornly demanded a reward from the government.
So the Kamakura government advertised that "we won because of God's typhoon."

Kamakura government had policy of rewarding their Samurai’s when they fight war by land or other method, but since Mongol invasion was defensive battle the government was unable to reward the samurais since their was no land to give. This resulted in collapse of Kamakura government.

Well, the Mongolian army advanced quite far into the interior of Japan. So if they had the upper hand, there was no need to go back to the ships. In fact, the typhoon had nothing to do with victory or defeat, just the fact that they were hit by a typhoon when they escaped and returned.

Surely, Mongol had one of the best and strongest troops in the world.
Without help of unseasonable hurricanes, Japan might have been conquered by them.
However, just as the Mongolian army was a formidable enemy for Japan,
so the Kamakura Bushi-dan (i.e. 'warrior bands') was tough to beat for the Mongolian troops.
    【Appraisal for Kamakura Bushi-dan 1】
For instance, Wang Yun (王惲) immensely praises the strength and bravery of Japanese warriors
in his book (汎海小錄) like this:
"Japanese soldiers were equipped with bows, swords, and armor.
There was neither spear, nor lances. The cavalry of Japanese army greatly solidified.
Their elaborate armors, among others, were occasionally attached with pieces of gold plate
on its surface. Most of those armors had beaded laces all over.
Their swords were long, extremely sharp and stiff, and they carried their swords in sheath. ...
They were so brave, and never feared to be killed."
(兵仗有弓刀甲, 而無戈矛, 騎兵結束. 殊精甲往往代黄金為之, 絡珠琲者甚衆, 刀製長極犀,
    銃洞物而過, .... 人則勇敢視死不畏.)

That aside there was a series that came out ten years ago called "Deadliest Warrior" which pitted combatants against other combatants both historical and modern that never actually met in battle. IRA vs Taliban, Apache vs Gladiator, Knight vs Pirate, SS vs the Viet Cong, etc. In this case you would want to watch an actual historical battle. Just keep a safe distance. Modern war it would be hard to do and still catch the action.
